life in myeongcho was anything but calm. he had managed to get used to the whole idea of living in a place like myengcho for the past few years, having even managed to successfully make friends. when he had first moved here, he hadn’t been expecting that the quiet island town would so rampant with crime and gangs, but he supposed it was no different from seoul in that sense, except on a smaller scale. his life, for the most part, was relatively normal. he made sure to get all his work completed on time (most of the time) and he had made the effort to be not as useless as he usually was. it had been  successful so far. decidedly when he’d heard that hyuk was quitting the force, he had been too late to wish him the best and even ask why, but he’d wondered what happened to make the other quit. the other had loved being part of the force so much, why would he quit something that had made him so happy? taekwoon had no idea as to the reason, all he had were minor suspicions and theories.
he was glad that his request for drinks had been accepted, and now they sat side by side at the bar. it was nice having drinks with a former collegue, someone taekwoon actually considered a close friend and whose presence he literally actually really liked. when the other asked him what he had been up to in the month since the other had been gone, taekwoon pondered his response. he loooked down at the whiskey shot in front of him and sighed. “Doing whta i usually do. Cases of arson all over the city, paperwork, occasional dead body thrown into the mix, you know how it is.” he stated, grinning. “Always a good time.” he added. Looking at the other male he grinned. “what have you been up to since you quit on everyone in a shock power move?” he asked.
“ friends “
To say it easily? Life lately had been… strange… more than it was usually. Life on Myeongcho has always been strange, that’s how it is living on Myeongcho, it’s basically impossible to live a normal life, but life had been more strange and unusual lately. For Hyuk it was like everything went down, and just utter down, and the small highlights in his life he rarely ever noticed due to being too focused on everything that had gone down. What major thing has happened in his life? He had joined a gang, and not only that, he had gone blind. And these two things? He blamed them on the MPD, he had gone blind because his fellow officers hadn’t listened to him, and he had joined a gang out of anger, as revenge, if he couldn’t be with the MPD he was going to be against them. The male had grown to hate what he once loved the most.
And this hatred was difficult, partly because basically all of Hyuk’s friends were from the MPD so it was hard to hate them. In the beginning Hyuk had managed to cut off all contact with everyone, but as time went by he couldn’t handle that, slowly he began texting,talking and meeting with his old colleagues again. And this was another meet with an old colleague, Hyuk still felt weird about it, he felt as if he needed to hate him and everyone from the MPD, even if it was so hard to, because really Hyuk couldn’t hate Taekwoon. But at last, it felt nice to finally drink with someone rather than drinking alone. “So Holmes” he began “or Taekwoon..” he continued “please tell me what you’ve been up to in the month I’ve been gone” he ended his sentence with.

holmes only sleeps a few hours a night or even every few days, often curling up on his sofa at home with ace on his chest. he’s seen in cafes and convenience stores, spending money on coffees and energy drinks. He’s always working and even when he’s not working, he’s chaotically working on paperwork, forensics, patrols. However, his coffee time is a calm moment that he took to himself daily.
he had gotten his coffee earlier that afternoon, and settled in a comfy chair with his coffee and a book on murders (as always something that he really enjoys). he’s comfortably seated so that he could analyze everything in the cafe with ease. a girl caught his eye, walking in. she was rather pretty but most ofetn pretty girls were the most difficult and the most cunning. he would have to keep an eye on her.
as she got her coffee, he watched her out of the corner of his eye but decided that he was more interested in the books he was reading. three steps, and moments later, he felt coffee in his lap and all over his drycleaned white shirt. he gasped in pain and shock and dabbed at his shirt. “ah, it’s okay. more importantly, are you okay, miss?” he asked, grinning.
primary concern:civillians. his clothes could wait.
— mind games.
Some say Qian never sleeps. She’s seen in cafes in the early mornings, and in bars late within the night. A conspiracy about her she enjoys. There isn’t a work and life separation; her life is work. It always has been, but now more than ever. Even while waiting for her coffee to brew, she’s watching—listening—to her surroundings. Today wasn’t her typical coffee run—no. It was the start of a personal project.
If there was a gang ranking on the island, she had a feeling Corvus was not leading the pact. Which was unacceptable for Qian. Although her role is minimal, she’s a businesswoman at heart. If they were not climbing the ladder, they were falling. Being an all-female gang, their climb will be even harder. Needless to say, she put extra work on her shoulders. But if this could succeed, this will be a phenomenal win.
Her lips curled into a smile at the employee handed her the latte she ordered. The cafe was crowded. Perfect. Everyone is focused on their own tasks to notice any sudden commotion if it’s restrained enough. A turn, three steps, and a purse’s strap catching onto the wooden chair, set the scene. The ‘sudden’ pull of the caught bag sent the cup in her hand flying towards the innocent stranger ( @mixholmes ) seated at the table. A shocked gasp left Qian. The cup landing in his lap, spewing the hot liquid.
“Oh my god.” She whispered, setting the tone. “I am so sorry.”

hunterxmi‌:
A surprisingly chipper man, considering the circumstances.
Kiyoung gave the young officer a look, feeling a hint of wariness seep into his chest. The Myeongcho Police Department was trying to maintain itself among five powerful gangs - this was no easy task. They needed officers who were intelligent, experienced and most of all, focused. Their chief had just been shot and this one was capable of laughing, as if he had bumped into a man on an ordinary day in the grocery store, instead of right in the middle of madness.
He certainly hoped this Holmes was better at investigating than he was at responding to emergencies. That this casual attitude was just the first layer of his personality and there was depth underneath.
Otherwise.
“I am glad the chief is alright,” Kiyoung said quietly, picking up the last of the fruits. “Without her, this island would fall apart.” He took a deep breath, remembering the panic he saw on the faces of those within the crowd when they heard the gunshot. “Thank you for assisting me, officer.” Kiyoung bowed, because it was the right thing to do. “I shall not take up any more of your time now. I am sure you have important duties to attend to.” He gestured towards the people still hovering near the plaza, wanting to evacuate yet too flustered to figure out a path. They needed guidance and Kiyoung wished it could be him taking them by the arm.
It was easier to be chipper when times are panicked.
he knew that he looked young and not very capable but at twenty six, he had seen his share of chaos and so he had discovered that keeping a cheerful attitude reassured people around that everything would be okay. with the five gangs around, he was probably one of the top officers that can be dispatched. that cheerful laissez faire attitude hid passion, intelligence and concentration. after all, he had received top marks for marksmanship, intelligence and was in the top 5% of the graduating class during his schooling. it was easier to smile and laugh because that showed reassuarance and confidence. he smiled widely at the other, after helping him with the groceries.
the casual attitude was the tip of the many many rocks that made up taekwoon. he was good at a few things, so he was pretty sure that he could handle himself.
“oh she’s a strong lady. not taken down that easy,” he stated, quietly. from what he had seen of chief choi jiwoo, the lady was a badass mother fucker and not taken down so easily. he wouldn’t say to her face but she was a beast. He offered the other a sweet smile, reaching his eyes and nodded. “You’re welcome! I’m glad to have been a help. You stay safe now!” he exclaimed, with a wave, jogging towards the crowd of confused people hovering near the plaza, shaking hands with them and pointing the way away with a relaxed and practiced smile that assured people that everything was great. He turned back to look at the whoever he ran into, clicking his tongue before brightening again and doing what he’s supposed to do.

minhyukmi‌:
he should have known that things were never peaceful in myeongcho. although minhyuk wasn’t aware of who would have coordinated the attack this time, he must commend their bravery for doing so during this type of gathering, what with the point of the entire celebration. he disliked either faction, really, so he couldn’t care less how things would turn out.
“hm?” minhyuk turned his head, spotting an officer approaching him. at the other’s warning, minhyuk merely scoffed. he had been in worse situations, and seeing as he wasn’t the target, he wasn’t very concerned about the entire ordeal. he wasn’t about to reveal that part of himself to the other, obviously, that would risk his entire career and possibly his life. so, he merely pulled his lips into an innocent, sweet smile.
“oh dear, is that so? does that mean that sound just now was a gunshot?” minhyuk let out a gasp, playing into the role. “i didn’t think the mpd wouldn’t be able to keep things in bay now of all times.” oops, minhyuk couldn’t help himself from the light jab at the entire police force. “what do you think happened, sir?
Things were rarely peaceful in myeongcho so he wasn’t at all surprised that a gang had successfully staged an attack on the boss lady in charge. And he was still bitter that he was technically relegated to patrol during this event, as though that was punishment enough. Even with the gunshots, he still had to stay on his guard and assist with evac since he was pretty positive that he would be useless in swat and finding the shooter, since he was just a detective. Evac was the main priority at this point.
Oh god, a sassmeister. Damn it and it was just taekwoon’s luck to deal with this child. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with bratty students who thought that they were better than the police. He simply crossed his arms and tried to look as stern as he could (it often failed since he was actually a very nice guy outside of everything). Hopefully his resting bitch face was enough to get this kid to listen. “Aren’t you a sassy one?”
The others teasing tone was a bit of an annoyance and taekwoon simply raised an eyebrow at the jabs at the police department and the query of whether he knows what happened. That he wasn’t at liberty to discuss. “Yeah that was a gunshot. And it could be likely there’s more. The situation is new and unfolding and I will have to insist that you leave the surroundings until it is safe to return.”he stated, reciting the rules that he had been taught in the police academy.

the festivities were successfully ruined with the gunshot and taekwoon ended up going inti evacuation mode. it was just decidedly a lot easier to pull into his emergency situation training and hopefully assist with evac since  he would probably be no actual use as a swat to search for the shooter. his colleagues can get the shooter and he will make himself useful in the evacuation. making himself useful in the evacuation meant that he isn't really looking around and watching where hes going so he ends up running into a person.
he extended a hand to help the other up, profusely starting to apologize for his clumsiness. "my apologies! i wasn't even looking where i was going? are you okay?"he asked, lowkey panicked.
he nodded. "ah, yes. sorry about running into you. pleae let me help!"he exclaimed, scrambling to help the other pick up the fallen groceries. after all it was partially his fault that the other boy had dropped his groceries. "my apologies for running into you again! seriously didn't mean for that to happen. its so chaotic so i wasn't watching where i wss going!" he exclaimed laughing and rubbing the back of his neck.
⊳evacuation plan
The gunshot successfully ruined the festivities gathered around the plaza. There was panic all around as Kiyoung and his fellow Hydrus moved to exit the scene. Though he tried his best to stay grounded, Kiyoung must admit he was distracted, at least for a moment, thinking about the shooter. Otherwise, he would have not collided into another person and fell.
A hand was offered and he took it gratefully, realizing it to not belong to the man he came on the grocery haul with only after he got up.
It was a member of the MPD (@mixholmes). Kiyoung never spoke to the man, but had read over his files. “Umm, thanks!” His fellow Hydrus had disappeared, how lovely. Then again, what else should one expect from a gang member? “You don’t have to worry about me, uh, Mr. Police sir, I will be on my way soon.” Right after he pick up all of the groceries he spilled.

miseokjin‌:
@mixholmes tw: gore, mention of murder, corpse, mention of arson
kim seok-jin hated days like this - a new case, but so disgusting that you’d love to spill your guts right then and there. he crouched down next to the body ( or rather, what was left of it ) and pulled a face, disgusted be the smell and appearance. burnt all over, including his face, blood everywhere, no clothes left - except of a bit melt plastic, probably a cheap necklace or strings of his hoodie.
“this is quite unappetizing i have to say.” he stood up again, facing his colleague. he usually disliked working with others, but safe to say that holmes was alright - a bit too teasing sometimes, but better than most of the others. he trusted him quite a bit. and that was special - it was always hard to tell who was corrupt and who wasn’t. it was myeongcho, the ones who you’re the closest to might hold a gun next to your head a few hours later.
“has your team found anything important? have they submitted a testing? safe to say that we can’t tell who he is by looking at his face. but his left hand must’ve been removed, meaning that the murder thought that it was important to make sure that it couldn’t be found even if the fire was put out.. maybe he wore a tight ring, a tattoo.. a scar.. or they wanted to have their fingerprints for something else.”
the detective flashed his badge to a worker, proving that it was okay for him to be so close to the body. “i thought about getting something to eat earlier this evening, but i think i don’t have to think about that anymore. this is disgusting.”
holmes was always into cases  with murder and arson. it was what initially captured him into the whole realm of being a policeman. so days with a new case - especially one as disgusting and bad as this was so fun for him. he told his team to look around for any clues in regards to the source of the fire before he made his way over to seokjin. the corpse...or more like what was left of the corpse was quite miserable. he pulled his hoodie up tighter and knelt down to look at the body close.
“well, speak for yourself. i find this rather intriguing.” he said, with a grin. he dealt with arson murders almost weekly so this was nothing new for him. “did you know that at ceiling level, a property fire can be up to 1500 degrees? At this temperature, clothes can melt to the skin and breathing in the hot air can sear the lungs,” he stated, as a random interesting fact while they were here. he didn’t usually work with a partner, but he supposed that seokjin was a decent one to have around. it was to an extent quite nice to have someone around to bounce theories off and even if they couldn’t trust each other too much, holmes was still thankful for the others presence.
“i sent them inside to look for the source of the fire or an ignition point of sorts.” he answered the query. he then listened to seokjin talk about the victim and the theories. yeah, he agreed they couldn’t tell much about him but the left hand missing was something to look for. “well, here’s a macabre thought. the left hand taken for a trophy. we don’t know if we’re dealing with a one off or a serial.” he stated, thinking. He then leaned closer to the body, quickly flashing his own badge. “well, i can tell you that that he was dead before the fire was set,” he added.
he then pointed out as to why he was sure of that. “normally with fire, if one is being burnt alive, they’d be covered in a flammable liquid and then the body would be set ablaze. You’d be smelling a distinct bitterness of gasoline. That being said, the fire was most likely set in a corner, where it then spread to here, allowing it to reach a temperature hot enough to cremate. Which i suppose was the eventual goal, since cremation fires burn hotter than property fires.” he stated.
❝ a dead man feels no heat.

@minhyukmi
He was so deadly bored. For the beginning of the whole carnival thing and until the speeches started, he was simply chilling around and watching. It was like a punishment. It sucked. Some superiors must have it in for him and his completely laissez faire attitude. He leans back on his arms as he looks around, tracking everything around him. The great thing about being outdoors, he could actually concentrate. However, when the single gunshot and panic ensued, taekwoon hopped into action. His job was to keep civillians safe.
So of course, he managed to do just that but while he was walking around, he saw a kid (seemingly a college student) and he walked over to the boy and girinned. “You should get home. I don’t think it’s safe here for the time being,” he stated, looking at the boy. “If there’s more gunshots, we have no idea if there’s going to be safe for the civiilians.” he added, making sure that he could go home.

Memory ||
a memory that made him what he is: the very first time his father took him with him on a case
taekwoon was just a young boy when he was first taken out on a case with his dad. what ignited the passion for detective work that he still holds was that first day. at the time, he had requested that he come along with his dad and his stubbornness showed off his persistence. his dad looked at his son with a laugh and nodded. "alright, you can come along."
taekwoon happily clapped. "do i get a gun too?" he asked, grinning. his dad claimed no but when they were in the car, he handed taekwoon a fake gun with a secretive grin. "just don't tell mom."
taekwoon nodded and excitedly wiggled in his seat while they drove. "so, where are we going?" he asked.
"a crime scene. you may have to stay in the car though, but i'll park so that you can see," his dad stated
taekwoon wiggled even more excitedly and when they arrived, taekwoon clambered up to the dashboard to watch what was going on. this was way too exciting for him.
he watched how everything unfolded.
The body was taken away and he watched how his father worked. He was so impressionable that one day so long ago had left a massive  effect on him.
That was the whole reason he delved into detective work.

Attempted Communications ||
@mixjisung
It had been a year since he had been called to the scene of a robbery with an attempted murder and of course the kid at the center of that was taken to the hospital,  but Holmes didn’t get a chance to speak with the other since he had escaped randomly and he was only alreted to the escape afterwards. So, he had placed the case just to the side and made a note that he would still have to chat with the other at some point.
So he hadn’t expected that he would end up running into the other at 7/11 where he got most of his red bull and energy drinks for work. Ah ha! That was his opportunity to chat with the other boy. But damn, this kid was a slippery one. He’d honestly come almost every single day with the mere goal of curiosity (more so why he escaped from the hospital a year ago and how he was doing now) but the kid had given him the slip almost every time he tried to chat. Oh, he was going to figure him out one day.
Thankfully that came quite quickly, since due to the fact that he had been there almost every day, not only to chat but also to get his work stock back up since he had gone through most of it. He had come close to the time that the other boy was still working so that he couldn’t give him the slip so easily. he grabbed his usual five cans of redbull and three cans of monster and made his way to the cashier. “So, now  you can’t escape, and we have to talk!” he exclaimed, feeling very triumphant.

Dream ||
@mixlian
After work was done and he was done with his shifts, he often went to the Grotto as one of the places on his list to frequent for drinks and relaxation after work. He wasn’t the very flashy type so he tried to keep himself under wraps and often just chilled out at the bar or close to the door, so that if things went south, he could make a quick getaway. He stared at the drink in front, deep in thought, before turning to the girl he ran security there and decided to ask her a very hypothetical question.
“Yamin, hypothetically, if i was dealing with a case where there was no clear suspect and everyone has a motive, how should I go about solving it?” he asked her, drinking the whiskey shot. Inititally they had become friends purely accidentally, but Taekwoon actually liked spending time at the grotto with the other girl. It was nice. “Seriously though, like talking all hypotheticals, how would i solve this?”

💭airplane
Taekwoon enjoys airplanes.During the holidays, he takes a week off and flies to Seoul, typically economy class. He prefers the window seat in his journeys home. When he arrives at home, it's usually a quick drive to his family house and then he spends his holidays there. Occasionally he will help out his dad at the same time, but most often these trips are made for enjoyment, since it's rare that he gets to go home. Before he started in the police academy, he took a few months to travel the world with his mother's permission. His favorite airports were in Germany (he travelled Germany for two weeks, landing in Munich and flying out of Berlin.) Taekwoon always flies economy and almost rarely takes an actual suitcase with him since he hates the hassle of checking luggage. Often he calls it a pain  and would rather prefer to travel with a carry on. He's also flown all over Europe over the course of the few months and finally ended up in Asia for a while.
In terms of toy planes, he's never really seen the appeal in general and finds them incredibly dumb.He's never had a toy plane in his life, maybe that was why he doesn't really like planes in the toy form. Model planes though, with their details and the little things, he really likes those. He has built a couple and if anyone comes to his house, they can find a whole case filled with his model planes. He spent quite a bit of money on his collection and has no shame in the whole thing over his models.
So, he's very divided on planes. Toy planes he doesn't like. Model planes he enjoys and actual airplanes, are a whole another thing to him. All in all, he likes planes.

💭time
Taekwoon is massive time waster. He wastes so much time, it is ridiculous. On cases and in the field, he tends to be on point and punctual. So everything on the scene is usually done with ease and very little time actually wasted in general.  However, when he's back at the station and has to do paperwork and vice versa, he tends to come in an hour or two late, blaming that his cat wouldn't let him leave (which is often true, since ace doesn't let his owner leave at all and taekwoon supposes that if his kitten had the choice, he would never leave) and then at work, the piles of paperwork dwindle down slowly.
If someone wants something done quickly from him, they're better off grabbing him once he gets in right in the morning, because things will be done quicker. Most often, he's usually either socializing or attempting to do work but getting side tracked. So he prefers to be outside where he can be the most productive.
In his spare time, he can often be found at animal cafes or bars. Animal cafes because he likes the cute animals and coffee fix and bars to get that alcohol fix. He has a lot of spare time on his hands because he tends to think on cases when he's got the free time without being surrounded by people. The quietness that he forces upon himself is enough to allow him to visualize crimes as they happened and then find an appropriate avenue of pursuit. He doesn't waste time on meaningless leads. preferring to clean up as quickly as possible/
In this view, he understands that he is a contradiction, but it is simply how he works and lives. Time waster at work at the station, on point and punctual outside.

💭 + mistakes
Taekwoon has made so many mistakes in his life. He’s prone to accidentally making mistakes and he’s had to deal with the fallout following those mistakes. If anyone ever asked, however, if he’s made mistakes, he would always say “no.”  He denies the fact that he’s ever made mistakes, but he works hard and he often attempts to not make mistakes.
He would say that his biggest mistakes were relationship and love related. The two mistakes that he’d ever made are what turned him off romance and love in general nowadays and as much as he flirts with people, he can never commit fully to another person ever again because of the heartbreak that he faced.
His first biggest mistake occurred before his entrance into the police academy and after graduating high school when he was nineteen years old. At the time, he had been dating a girl who was basically his high school sweetheart and he had been the one to break off the relationship, despite her being his at the time ultimate love. The pursuit of his job was more important, but he had asked her to wait for him until he finished. She didn’t and his biggest mistake was letting her walk away at the time. While Taekwoon was in the academy studying, he got a wedding invite from her and felt immediate regret because she was getting married but not to him. Sure, now he considers her a close friend and actually worked with her husband on a case in seoul before transferring to myeongcho.
His second biggest mistake, which he claims has turned him off romance and relationships in general, was falling for someone he knew would break his heart and he stupidly did so, of course ending up with a broken heart and being used massively for his status as a police detective (erasing evidence, helping them escape and vice versa). He still feels massively bitter towards that person but that has pushed him to be way more into his work.
In work and police work, he doesn’t make mistakes. If he does, it’s usually accidental and not intended to be bad.
