โ ๏ธ Spoilers for chapter 359 โ ๏ธ
I honestly didn't expect I'd be posting as many chapter rants but here we are. I really need to draw these guys again soon. Anyway onto the chapter rant.
I'm really liking Fanny's character this arc, I honestly didn't care much for her character at first. I always liked that she isn't a perfect victim, we really need more of those in media (cause you know the 'perfect victim' doesn't actually exist). I'm happy with how much of her we've gotten to see. She really wants to change and I hope we see her succeed in that. I genuinely hope that we can get a Oswald and Fanny friendship in the future.
I love the variety there is in inky mystery of how characters react to things. I think Felix' character is so interesting, he has contrasting and conflicting character traits that are fun to see pull and tug at each other. I like the fact that when Felix is in emotional distress he tends to run away. It's such a realistic reaction and it's a reaction that you don't really expect of a character like Felix on a surface level. I would love to do a character analysis on him one day.
Oswald you are truly pure of heart and dumb of ass. I love this man but boy does he have me in the trenches defending his actions. He is so impulsive even in his 30s. I can't imagine how much of a handful Oswald was in his youth if this is him supposedly mellowed.
I love how Bendy and Cuphead were just like 'so you two are together?' It was hilarious to me but also it shows how close Oswald and Felix have become. Obviously we know that Felix cannot hide his feelings for Oswald at all but a relationship goes both ways so there's obviously been a lot of development between them. We finally have Oswald blushing at Felix and having feelings for him blossoming. (Tap please make them kiss and my life is yours).
Bendy and Felix are so cute. I can't wait to have him and Boris live with Felix. I think we all deserve the fluff that will bring. Bendy's comment was so funny to me because yeah actually Oswald you are the lucky one. I don't know how he managed to pull a well-educated rich cat that is kind and is good with kids. Oswald did actually win the lottery with that one, Felix has his flaws obviously but my point still stands. I love how chill Bendy was about the possibility of Felix dating Oswald.
I also really want to see more Felix and Dr. Oddswell. He clearly cares about Felix and trusts his judgement on things.
The seeds have been planted for Felix really grasping how much people compare him to Ortensia which I am both scared and excited to see where that goes or if it's just a throw away line. I think it could make some interesting angst (that I will only appreciate if it there is an Osix bounce back if it goes that way). Cuphead is confirmed bisexual to the surprise of no one. That man has never given 'straight' in his life.

โ ๏ธ Spoilers for Chapter 357 โ ๏ธ
Kinda... Not talking about the actual chapter cause I can't even AHHHH but an event that happened is mentioned so I'm going to put that little spoiler warning
This may just be wishful thinking but I hope now that Felix is out we get to see other characters exploring queerness a little bit. BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY FELIX WILL BE WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS AND A VERY HEARTFELT WE STILL LOVE YOU FELIX. Obviously this is fiction but like realistically queer people tend to gravitate towards each other. Like the domino effect is so real, I came out as bi (don't identify as bi anymore) in like year 7 and now my entire childhood friend group of 4 are all queer. I wasn't the one to create the domino effect in my high school friend group cause our group kept on getting mashed together with others throughout the years untill we have everyone we have now. Which is 3 queer people, 2 token straights and 1 unlabelled. It is the 1920-30s so I don't expect it to be explicit but like a couple lines here and there would be cool.
Genuinely a bit scared to see how the characters will react. I think most of them will be chill with it but I will honestly be upset if they are not. Granny is literally in her like 80s I'm sure she's had a conversation with a queer person in her life before. Red is a nurse, you kinda have to or should be a caring and understanding person to be a nurse. I don't think Dr. Oddswell would care like at all, Felix is helping and he trusts this person who he's knew since Felix was in college (I think).
I did a pole recently on Jerry and homophobic gay man won so there's that, no one cares what Jerry thinks though. He is a little snitch though so he better not tell anyone because omfg. The Warners will obviously be chill, if we're lucky we could get reference to non-binary Wakko. Same with Mr. Toad and Dr. Scratchy. Albert seems like a kind old man I think he'll be chill. John honestly gives me gay vibes so. Cuphead is so bisexual coded, I'm so convinced this man had a gay lover in his past. I think Bendy would ask questions and then be chill with it. I think his reaction would be 'oh so like the lesbians in hell, I didn't know you could like the same gender, that's good to know'. I hope Holly is told, I want to see her reaction cause I genuinely don't really know how she would react specifically to Fanny being the one who outed Felix. I feel like she would give the house a very passionate speech on how great Felix is and how the fact that he likes men doesn't diminish all that he's done for the house. Also Holly is just a great ally, that one Holly's Journal chapter when she was figuring out queer people exist was like 'how to be a good ally 101'. I did not mean to make this as long as it is, I just talk a lot.

So I've been thinking about my sexuality and gender headcanons for the inky mystery cast and I'm stuck on Jerry. I could see him as an ignorant homophobic straight guy or a deeply closeted gay man. So what does everyone else think?
To clarify if the wording confuses you
1. Straight and homophobic
2. Closeted gay and supports gay people
3. Straight and supports gay people
4. Closeted gay but homophobic
4. Bisexual
Feel free to also talk about your decision and headcanons about our favourite asshole of a man, Jerry Verrmin.

Big art dump of old inky mystery fanart I've done over the years. I never posted these when I made them cause I was too shy to post my art. Really need to draw these guys again. Should probably redraw some of these to see my improvement over the years.
Digital
From left to right: March 2020, Oct 2021, Nov 2021, Dec 2021
Traditional
All Nov 2020. I didn't know how to edit the contrast of black and white when I took these photos and can't find the original book I drew them in so the quality kinda sucks.
I was a little late to the inky mystery party as I started reading it in 2019. But as an 11 year old in 2017 with unrestricted access to the internet I was busy reading Bendy x Cuphead bully x victim stories on Wattpad written by other mentally ill 11-14 year olds. Apologies if anyone got flashbacks to that, we all deserve financial compensation.
My favourites out of all of these is the Oswald and Felix one and the 2021 bendy drawing. Oswald looks so fluffy and bouncy, I was so proud of how he turned at.
Might do a part 2 cause I reached the Tumblr image limit.

Okay so I already posted this in the comment section of inky mystery but I wanted to post this here on Tumblr cause I haven't seen this talked about on here.
[spoilers for chapter 349]
Ugghh, this chapter was so frustrating. I've been sitting on it for awhile and reading some rants that are have been sympathetic to both Felix and Canola's POV and I can really see both sides of their arguments. They are both right and wrong. Obviously we know that Canola does not have the full context but I also wanted to point out the chapter title for my point as to why both Felix and Canola are both right and wrong. The chapter title is "Imperfect Parents" implying there is multiple parents. What I haven't seen brought up is how Canola is as a parent because she drove her own daughter away due to her protectiveness and not really being there emotionally for Holly. So while Canola is right about a couple things, that being Felix' zaniness and fear of putting his foot down for the boys' in case that's the breaking point of their trust. So I think we should think about that context when it comes to Canola's arguments.
From the context that we have from Holly, her mother really hurt her and I'd go as far as to say it's possibly an emotional neglect wound. But she was physically safe, had a roof over her head and food on the table and Canola seemed to prioritise that sense of safety over Holly's emotional needs. I think there is an interesting parallel between Felix and Canola's parenting styles here. Felix is so gentle in his parenting that I've seen people say that Cuphead and Holly feel more like fit older parental figures to the bbros then Felix. Canola is kind of the opposite, she provides all you need physically but she is emotionally distant.
Hopefully this doesn't feel like a bash on Canola's character, people have just had whole essays about Felix so I wanted to focus on Canola to bring something I haven't seen talked about to the inky mystery essay/rant table.
Wonderful chapter as always to Tap, Mercowe, Specs and everyone else on the inky mystery crew. I'm so excited to see how Felix handles these revelations and difficulties.
#reblog#that 'she sticks her nose into other people's business' is an interesting note#also ironic that she talks about Felix choosing the quest over Boris when Canola herself is a big workaholic#also omg everyone is this community has been so nice with my post ๐ญ#it's been like a week? And I've had so much love and insight on this post#just checked the date and it's like 3 days but still#you guys are just so amazing thank you ๐ญ#bendy and boris in the inky mystery#inky mystery#canola may#holly may#felix the cat#bendy bbro#boris bbro
