Do you think the world needs a plus-sized Barbie?

This image was mocked up on a plus size modeling website and created controversy. Some think it’s a good idea since 1/3 of Americans are obese and this represents our society. BUT others think it tells young girls it’s ok to be obese. My mind became fluttered with scenarios.

Imagine this: Can you fathom the self-esteem issues going through a young girl’s head as she is gifted a plus size Barbie for Christmas and her friend gets a “regular” Barbie? What if the girl didn’t even think she was overweight and now she sees that she’s “different”? What do you think?

Is a plus size Barbie condescending and anti-health or is she helping girls accept a new type of body shape?

This issues in this photo are much more deeply rooted than what we see for face value.
