Don't Leave Me Here Alone | Open
His mornings runs had returned, just as they had been in the past. While nothing lasts forever, as he was coming to find. There was relief in choice, you can't stop others from acting as they want, but you have a decision in how you work, and deal with what's going on around you. His leg had healed, and what was nice about running was his hand was constantly on the move with the rest of his arm that he didn't need to look at the scar on his hand from his night in the woods. Chirping would be heard and he didn't know if that was from his mind trying to put familiar sounds back in his head, or if there were actually birds there anymore. He fond his resolution to fight for his friends, but these days there weren't many people to call that.
Mere had been asking him about how his training was going, and if he had been training other people, that was the only way he knew to keep occupied in the weeks that passed. No more looking back at the past that was no longer within his reach. Dedication to the cause were what his days were coming to be, with little time in the cracks for any fun. Joey had been the fun one before, or he liked to think so, definitely sillier than the rest with his tales of the squirrel that lived in the tree outside his house, the boy even worked to make a sort of home for him outside. Getting him to stay was a fruitless endeavour, he never saw it in the home, or even hiding from him in any of the branches. Assuming he had not moved out and found another tree entirely. People had always been quicker to move on from him than he ever was for them. Losing them was like losing a limb, Joey thought the possibility of that occurring was becoming a lot higher than it was before oddly enough.
The sun rose, and it was unlike anything he experienced here before. Everything had been masked in a dusk, shadows coated the building and his heart were immediately taken by rose hues came out of drifting clouds, and the sun slowly made it way up to it's place in the sky. Bright, beautiful, a sight that gave him hope in tomorrow. Nearly forgetting his camera, Joey fumbled for it, removing it from his bag, and carefully lined it up with the fleeting moment he wished to capture. Clicking the button and got his shot, or he would see later. But he knew he wouldn't regret waking up this early to take it.
The sound of shuffling feet caught him off guard, his head snapped in the direction, hoping to catch who it was that was approaching him. Tension that built up in his body resided once the stopped being a shadow and become a person.
"Looks like I'm not the only early bird." He said, generally acknowledging them, there was a smile on his face, but the downwards turn of his eyes, gave away the sadness he felt. The early hours stripped him of the false bravado he built up, there wasn't a need for him to help lead, or teach. A lost boy trying to retain his sense of self was all that was left at the start of the day.

Oh, we must run in different circles. It's not huge here, but who you hang around makes a big difference. I wanted a sport bike but I didn't have enough money to afford one. I ended up fixing up an old standard though, it worked good enough to ride on.
Meredith is organizing something as well, I'm helping her on that. I heard about your group. I wish you guys luck. I hope for everyone's sake at least one of our groups is able to end this injustice.
What's been going on?
My brother. You might’ve met him, he’s on your side, and he’s definitely a sociable guy from what I’ve seen. Us men and our infatuation with anything that runs on gas… What kind of bike did you ride?
I don’t know if it’s smart but it’s better than pouting about what they’re having us do only to have our asses handed to us when they get done with us. Their luck is gonna run out someday, though. Me and Emily got something planned and it’s gonna work, and we’re gonna be a whole hell of a lot more happier than we are now.

I still think there's something to salvage... but I guess as long as we're friends with who we are that's not going to happen.
We've already made our choices. There's no going back now, as much as I'd rather be there.

The last thing I would ever want to do is make you unhappy, Emily.
I just had to let you know that I wish I never said those things to you. You weren't just someone who happened to be in my life, and that's why I hung around you. When I thought about what my ideal future would be here, you were in it.
We're two different people now though. That dream was unrealistic, I still think the two groups should be combined. I don't want to fight about this, but it would do more good than bad in my opinion if both groups all worked together to take a stand against the sovereign. Together we can be strong. Think about it, and not just about what you're morals are. Consider what these people need, it's not two people fighting over the past, to make a better future we have to be better ourselves if any of us want it to improve.

Nah, but I just can't seem to. I have enough energy, I mean I'm still able to train, and work, sleeping is what's hard.
How badly did you hurt your hand? I hope the guards didn't give you a hard time.

Only they can fix this, there's honestly nothing we can do Livs.
It's hard to watch since it's dividing us, and to fix things we need everyone's co-operation. But I don't think they'll make amends anytime soon.

Luke? Sorry I don't know who that is. That sounds nice though, guys are either about, bikes, boats or cars. I was a bike guy.
That's a smart move, they don't like anyone questioning their authority and definitely are capable of punishing us for saying when they're wrong. Funny how our basic human rights don't matter to them.
What's been going on?
Nah, nothing like that. Just a scuba instructor with Luke. And sometimes I went sailing on my time off.
An excuse that only a guard can use. I try to keep my comments to myself, guards aren’t really the laughing type.

It would be beneficial but Emily sees Mere's group as a violent one, I don't think Mere has a problem with hers but she doesn't believe it will work in the long run.
Tell me about it.
You know, I agree. Everyone needs a break, we're all tired and we're becoming irritable. We need to sleep for a day, and we could use something like the baseball game. To raise moral, after everyone got a day or two of rest to get our strength. Are Meredith and Emily in?

That's good, I would never want that for you.
I know, that was the worst thing I've ever said to someone, Emily. If I could I would take it back in a heartbeat. I never wanted to hurt you, or to have us end like that. You were one of the best friends I ever had. Living included.
There wasn't. I was hurt, and mad that you chose Fisher. But that's probably how you felt when I would go between you and Mere.

Yeah, whenever those two talk it's like trying to put two magnets together. They just repell each other away from their anger. I'll hunt him down and tell him he better report to you. What's your idea? I'll tell you what I think.

Really? Not that, that's bad you know.
People should like it here. Or, it's better than hating it. What made you come to that conclusion?
I've decided that I like it here.

Olivia said that? Is the group ready though? Have any shown interest? That will be useful, I think Landon really will make the effort. It's best to know what they'll do before they act.
What's been going on?
That’s good.
Basically the start of a rebellion but I don’t know if she’s aware of that, you should talk to her about it. I’ve been talking to Emily’s people because Emily’s not— I’m just doing my job. And I got Landon to become an informant for me, or for us, for my—our group. He’s a guard still but he’s going to keep us updated with the happenings inside the Sovereign so that way we can be better prepared and know what to do next.

Were you like a captain? I always thought they had big bushy beards and parrots.
Too much fun, and not doing nearly enough work. One actually said to me he was too busy supervising. What kind of excuse is that?
What's been going on?
I’m talking to you with this fence in the way. I think we have time for something else.
I’m more experienced with repairing boats and maintaining that than building entire houses and businesses. Some of us aren’t too good, and the guards are having fun.

Did someone hurt you?
No, um. I didn't mean what I said. That wasn't how I really felt, I haven't stopped regretting what I said since that day. I was mad at you then, and I'm sorry.
