If I could really emphasize on one particular life lesson it would be to know when to shift. I used to attach myself to small things like opinions of others, how they saw me, and what they thought about me. I trusted everything they had to say at face value and internalized it. When you have to transition out of social circles to save your life something happens, your views change you meet others with healthier views and your attachments shifts. Today I am attached to my goals and the wonderful opportunities ahead of me! All the doubters who hated on me were wrong. 🙏🫶🏾. #goaloriented #successprinciples #nextlevelthinking https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci6tMkOsd4G/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Back in June of this year The City of Regina’s municipal government passed a motion to include a fully costed plan to solve the city’s chronic homeless problem. This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication from fellow advocates that work so very hard. The Housing First model is a recovery-oriented approach that focuses on moving people experiencing homelessness into permanent housing and offers extra supports if needed. There is a meeting tonight to support this important event, if you in the local area please consider coming out and showing your support 🎉. #homelessness #affordablehousing #housingfirst https://www.instagram.com/p/CivqBLQO8HH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

On September 14th National Sober Day is honoured in the US to celebrate life in sobriety and to raise awareness against addiction and stigma, it’s wonderful to see more awareness in Canada aswell.I am taking a bit of time to reflect on my own journey. Recovery can feel unpredictable and scary at times, but the cravings do go away. I am thankful for the life I have today, and grateful to advocate and serve others on their journey. #sobermovement #recoverymonth #selfadvocacy https://www.instagram.com/p/Cig2i9dsUuQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Envision a world without suicide. A word where human dignity was valued in each and every member of the human race received kindness and compassion that they deserve and the mental health of each of us was supported. Healing isn’t always pretty, sometimes it involves sitting with the pain, being honest. Yesterday I stopped by a community event where I listened to an elder speak on the healing powers of ceremonies, round dancing and community traditions within indigenous culture. I learned a lot by participating in the event, it’s an important reminder that different cultures offer different insights and if we are open to new viewpoints, we can find new possibilities that we did not even know existed. #culturaldiversity #indigenousculture #healingvibrations https://www.instagram.com/p/ChvokyAMdyi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

August 19th is recognized as #worldhumanitarianday. It has been held each year since 2009 as a day to pay respects to personnel working for humanitarian causes, and to remember those who lost their lives in these roles. In August 2003 a bomb attack in Iraq killed 22 humanitarian workers who we remember today. We also honour those currently serving our world as working humanitarians as they are faces their own challenges. The United Nations recently reported that 274 million people in more than 63 countries are currently in need of protection from the many difficulties brought on by the COVID 19 Pandemic. #worldhumanitarianday #humanitarianaid #humanitariancrisis https://www.instagram.com/p/CheAWeaszQ2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Today we acknowledge #worldhumanitarianday an international day recognizing humanity personnel , and remembering the many individuals who lost their lives working for humanitarian causes. In 2003 a bomb attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq killed 22 humanitarian aid workers including Special Representative of the Secretary of Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello. World Humanitarian Day was first commemorated in 2009 and has been honoured each year with a subsequent theme. This year the theme focuses on highlighting the positive impact on humanitarian work. During the month of August black entrepreneurs are being celebrated and honoured. Black Business Month was created in 2004 by John William Templeton,an executive editor of a publishing company, and Fredrick E. Jordan, an engineering entrepreneur. The event stemmed from Jordan’s personal experiences trying to secure funding for his first he first opened in San Francisco in 1969 and was intended to drive the policy agenda affecting 2.6 million black business owners in order to highlight and empower them and their personal achievements. As a Canadian citizen I am also very proud to see more resources and acknowledgments within the black community to address our needs as well. #blackmentalhealth #blackentrepreneurship #blackbussiness https://www.instagram.com/p/ChQeEqWOM3X/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Maintaining a positive mindset is about more than just thinking positive thoughts. We must live a positive life with actions that support us, and be fuelled by those that encourage our growth. Always be aware of what is influencing you, is it helpful? or is it hurting you? #positivemindset💯 #nonegativevibes #takingittothenextlevel https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg-8MRfsCIR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

When I was being careful and safe and spending all my energy worrying about what everyone else was posting, I would scare myself out of writing anything. Comparison would kick in and I would go into guilt mode thinking I would never be as a good as this creator or that creator. This is precious energy I could have been using to brainstorm ideas for my own marketing. Keep creative, not cautious. Love this quote from art director, author and designer George Lois. #instaquotesdaily #creativearts #risktaker https://www.instagram.com/p/Cg0tCENsjiS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

As the month of July comes to an end, I would like to recognize Disability Pride Month which is celebrated throughout the month. Disability Pride initially started as a day of celebration in 1990 which was the same year The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed in the United States. Canada has yet to officially recognize the month, but that doesn’t stop advocates and supporters from speaking out and recognizing Canadians with disabilities. Over the next few weeks I will going deep into the topic of disability stigma in an interview over the next few weeks, stay tuned for more information.
