It brings me to tears thinking about this… People like to think that I have it all together. I had to go through extreme adversity in order to become the person that I am today. I’m going to tell you about one of the hardest experiences I’ve ever had to go through. When I was 16 I was my heaviest weight, nearly 400 pounds. I felt controlled by my body, my hormones were all screwed up and I didn't believe I could change. I was starving myself to make weights for football games. I wouldn't EVER let people take photos of me, that's why the only picture I have from then is me trying on my denim jacket my parents got for me for Christmas. I was struggling with my mental health, using it as an excuse to not change. This all changed when I went to a doctor for a skin problem I saw on my neck. the signs of a prediabetic. I had to change my life! I was about to have all my favorite foods taken from me and surely have many more health conditions down the road. I got referred to a clinical dietitian, they taught me the basics of portion control and what the average amount of food should look like. turns out 4 hot pockets wasnt a well-rounded meal lol XD I started working out regularly, keeping a workout journal showed me how much I was really getting done and I knew I would have to do better to see results. my parents help me build my first workout program and it worked! starting out it was an amazing feeling to melt off the first 100 pounds. That moment of seeing abs start to form on my chubby body made it worth it. when the rolls became muscles. when I slid into an XL shirt and had ROOM(I was XXXLT at my biggest) when I could run for a full 10 minutes and could keep running I literally cried I was so happy and proud of myself.(luckily I was alone or I would have felt so embarrassed) I finally started to feel confident and in control of my body. I was able to look inward and accept myself for who I am, I could get pictures taken of me with or without a shirt and feel genuinely happy with myself knowing how far I've come if you’re struggling, going through a hard time, going through adversity, you’re not alone. My workout for today? 10 minute cardio bike level 15 100 rpm average pace The big bar deadlift 5x Pull ups with my rings and 25 pound hanging weight 3 x 6 Tricep extensions with my fully loaded band 3 x 10 Bench press 3 x 6 These plastic weights make my presses seem bigger than they are XD dont get discouraged. Brain disorders suck... I still have to cope with mine, im not perfect... I had been led to believe I couldn't become better. That I couldn't succeed at anything because of my mental health. I have been turned down job offers, fights, opportunities. All because of my personal problems and beliefs. There are always going to be those hard days where the goal seems so far and the progress feels so insignificant. It's moments like these that make or break people with mental health. We have to learn to look inward! To not quit on ourselves! Even when our own mind is against us. Make your mind your bitch! Tire it out and strengthen it through learning. Clear it and calm it through meditation. Get your proper hormones for confidence and happiness through exercise. And after you put in the work do something that brings you joy.
