What is the purpose of submitting a video in a writing class?

I believe that the purpose behind the video presentation is because visual presentations are usually more effective than speech/text. Part of the course basis was being  multimodal in which different visual representations are used.

Week 13 Op-Ed

OP-ED

For the medium I will be writing an essay to be more effective and provide a more meaningful and factual perspective into the pay gap that exist for women and what needs to be done to make a change. Legislations such as the Paycheck Fairness Act and unexplained wage disparities cases will be used to implement a solution for my Op-Ed argument.

Week 12 Doc Analysis

1. The advocacy of the documentary is for media literacy in neighborhood schools on the issue of body image. Also another advocacy was to educate your own children on what are healthy ways to look and perceive their bodies.

2. The intended audience for the video consist of individuals who question their physique based on the media interpretation of the perfect body.  The visual and graphical techniques consist of “beauty” and weight standards through imagery of models and dialogue associated to the matter, while advocating for caution in regards to media portrayals of perfection.

3. The tone for this documentary is mainly set by the music that continually played throughout the entire film. They also showed a lot of pictures of people who had eating disorders, showing the audience that the media does have an affect on everyday people.

4. The video leans more towards using text to establish credibility. The text is used on quotes to establish and issue or a solution towards the issue and the idea being advocated.

5. Design features such as text font, images, sound and transitions were used during this documentary. The design as a whole attempted to create a dramatic effect specifically the background music along with the transitions between images. The sound used worked good and gave off a dramatic vibe however the image layout was a bit odd at times. Overall, the design and features used worked effectively however could be tweaked to work even better for the audience.

Lit Review Reflection

The rhetorical issues and methods that I used consisted of trial and error. My research questions were one of the harder decisions based on the lack of knowledge that I had about the gender wage gap. 

My research methodology was frustrating especially looking for scholarly articles as their method of information delivery is quite advanced. The other was trying to find nonbiased articles and making sure they were credible sources. I do believe that surveys are a good method to find someone’s personal beliefs and thoughts concerning the wage gap but still uncertain whether it is more effective than an interview. 

This methodology works only if everything is kept in neutrality. I found that as long as a plan in set and defined well then there should be no issues, but with an assignment this large deviation is almost unavoidable.

I believe that question number two about the patterns in my research is the most important. The method that I used to answer the question was the usage of the gif of Supernatural and how he’s questioning the reference (methodology meaning). After I realized what the question meant, I believe that there was a lot of articles and sources that I read that seemed like hieroglyphs especially those with complex words and statistics. The building of sources and information was a bigger detriment that I had previously thought it would be.

Week 8 Tumblr Post

In the second paragraph my my first source states on how news sites and figures do not match based on who is presenting it, but I used my second source as proof and it does not make a good connection according to the first.

In my third paragraph the transition from the example of female staffers making only 88 cents in comparison to males in the White House to the British government implementing their new law to avoid any discrimination needs to be more efficient between both sources. The information is valid but one does not fully engage the other and vice versa especially if my point was to make a connection between the White House article and how they can implement something like the British are. 

In these two contrasting sources (one for and one against gender pay discrimination), my argument is reversed and should display the AAUW statistics and analysis and then be countered by Biggs reasoning as to why he believes that the gender pay discrimination does not exist.

Week 6 Research Process

That feeling you get when you start reading your research material.

During my research process, a lot of what I would find began as something promising, but by the end of the article it felt like a waste of time. 

During the process of writing my lit review, my APA citations and general rules are something that i need to improve upon.

Literature Review problems

That moment when I think I got it but really don’t.

I selected question number two because genre analysis and its complexities is an ever existing theme in college writing. Without full knowledge of what’s expected and not grasping genres complicates any forward progress while writing. I used the Calvin and Hobbes comic because that is exactly what will occur if any assignments are turned in that are considered mediocre.

Week Two Genre Analysis

Purpose: The purpose for the video is to humor a subject that remains an ongoing issue with no resolution and lack of contesting. This torch and pitchfork issue is explained through a different lens to let the viewer disseminate what they want from this.   

Audience: The audience is anyone in general that is curious about the subject especially with YouTube as the viewing platform. Organizations and advocates would be specific audience in this genre.

Ethos: Ethos credibility is established because he is a renowned character on television and internet. His usage of political speeches, popular news channel interviews, and the usage of studies compel viewers to agree that he is a trustworthy source for satire and news.  

Pathos: The pathos is evident fairly quickly by displaying and showcasing in a comedic tone with informative values. He deciphers the clips used and applies his own twist on the issue. It is effective in regards to his typical viewing audience.

Logos: The genre did use multiple news and media resources with their logo in place as far as who is being broadcast but nothing was cited. The sources used were effective in evidence and relevance.

Delivery: Video delivery was efficient with his stance on the genre while having fun with it. In respects to his own style of reporting many might not agree with everything said, but in his comedic style he does not stray from the genre being addressed.
