I was deeply hurt when I learned about the series of reports about Toru Furuya yesterday afternoon. I still can't believe it, but as a fan of Japan I have no choice but to speak up about this horrible incident.

It is true that Furuya assaulted a woman much younger than him, impregnated her, and forced her to have an abortion, and this is unforgivable. What annoys me even more is the amusement of people who conflate his misdeeds with the idea that the character he played, Yamcha, was unfaithful.

Yamcha is suspected of cheating, but this is only hinted at by Trunks from the future and has never been confirmed. In the Dragon Ball Heroes anime, he shows great resentment towards men trying to hurt a girl, even if the man is much stronger than him.

Confusing this incident with a fictional character and mocking it is an act of trampling on the dignity of the character, the work, and most importantly, the real victim, and I despise those who post such things as jokes simply to draw attention to themselves.
