Gift for Grub for a byaren server exchange! I tried my hand at the style from the first tybw opening, it was fun working with a limited pallette.

Saw a post discussing how Hisana's death and Byakuya's near death parallel each other, and I'd never noticed before, but yeah, it does.

They both are in their "last moments" and use the time to ask someone to carry on a heavy, burdensome duty they wanted to complete but are unable to.

And in the same fashion as TYBW often calls back to past moments and changes the reason/outcome, Byakuya doesn't die. He lives to see the success of the person he entrusted his whole heart and purpose to, and even contribute to it. He continued carrying on Hisana's request to care for Rukia in the same survival.

This is actually a really great callback. I like it.

life continues to fucking gut-punch me so i'm digging deep for things to be happy about:

the weather is still nice. we probably have a week left of this so i'm hanging on to it

I dunno it seemed kinda weird to me that everyone--even Ratau, a former bearer of the Red Crown himself--refers to Narinder as "The One Who Waits," despite most likely knowing his true name (citation needed.) So maybe there's a curse on it, which would explain how no one but Shamura and Haro speak it in-game. (Though even beings like the duck siblings, Clauneck especially, don't speak Narinder's name despite most likely fulfilling the exemptions mentioned here. *shrug*)

Well, even in IRL religions and mythologies, the names of gods are sacred and not meant to be spoken frivolously. Like when I was little, I was told never to mention Satan or the devil because that was an invitation.

Perhaps maybe that would extend to the Lamb as well, once they are borderline and newly ascended to godhood. So therefore, even after one would know Lamb's name, they are still referred to as "Lamb" to avoid any potential issues that come with speaking a god's name. Eh, just a thought...

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.
