The personal blog of a queer, feminist, pagan librarian and geek. Expect musings on pop culture, gender, and intellectual freedom along with general silliness and pretty art. My most front and center fandoms at the moment are Steven Universe and She-ra.

Requesting help for disabled trans friend
Hello internet, my friend Ash needs some help.
He doesn’t have a social media presence, so I am writing on his behalf. Two years ago, I helped Ash move out of an abusive home situation. Shortly after, he developed a chronic illness that required numerous medical visits for diagnosis and treatment. Because his insurance will no longer provide for co-pay and fund more rigorous tests, this has put him into thousands of dollars of medical debt, on top of the other debt it required for him to move here. We both live in an extremely rural area, necessitating weekly travel for more than 4 hours just to get groceries.
Because of his autoimmune disease, Ash is unable to get a second job to help him out of his debt. Nor can he focus on his hobbies, writing and crafting plush animals. His current job is already exacerbating his symptoms and he's sick daily. I am unable to support him financially, and he has no family who can help him either. His family is extremely abusive, so relying on them is not an option. Right now Ash is struggling to afford food and gas, and is unable to pay off his medical debt. I know that there is a lot of terrible crap going on in the world and that this call for aid is poorly timed, but anything helps. If you cannot donate, please consider at least sharing this post. He would very much appreciate it.
Here's his ko-fi link. He's $ashraid on cashapp. Again, anything helps.
P.S. Here's Baby, Ash's very important support cat.
Thanks again!

Catradora travel Etheria 10/12 ⚡ Fright Zone⚡
"It was a strange feeling, seeing the Fright Zone I had always known in the midst of renovation and change. I thought I would just be happy, but there was grief there too. Mostly I kept thinking about how we made it, we survived, together."

I am proship at a professional level.
By which I mean that I am a cataloging librarian for a public library system.
People want to read V. C. Andrews novels, an author who wrote so much incest that family trees of her characters tend to look more like wreaths? I've cataloged the books and the film adaptions.
People want the works of Chuck Palahniuk? I've learned that skimming his books while I'm cataloging them makes me nauseous, but catalog them I will.
People specially request self-published smut that leads me to teach my coworkers the phrase "The Straights are not okay." Those have to be cataloged from scratch because no other library I can find has ever cataloged them before. Those may be some of my least favorite days at work due to the extra effort, but by gods, I put the effort in.
Everyone should have the right to write whatever fulfills them creatively, and the results should be accessible to the readers who will derive satisfaction from reading them.
It is my professional duty to fight anyone who tries to say otherwise.
(For the sake of this poll, I will define "proship" as people who support or actively engage in creating fictional works depicting incestuous, abusive, and/or non-consensual relationships for any reason. "Anti" would just be anyone who is moderately to strongly opposed to that. Sorry, no in-between options because I don't feel like the end result of that would be very informative.)
Are you pro or anti ship, and are you public about your real beliefs?
- I am proship, and I am vocal about it on main
- I am proship, and I am only vocal about it on a sideblog/separate account, or in specific groups
- I am proship, but I keep it hidden out of fear of social derision
- I am proship, but I keep it hidden for some other reason
- I am an anti, and I am vocal about it on main
- I am an anti, and I am vocal about it on a sideblog/separate account, or in specific groups
- I am an anti, but I keep it hidden out of fear of social derision
- I am an anti, but I keep it hidden for some other reason
- I am neutral, or I don't know enough about this to have an opinion

A little advice from someone studying extremist groups: if you’re in a social media environment where the daily ubiquitous message is that you have no hope of any kind of future and you can’t possibly achieve anything without a violent overthrow of society, you’re being radicalized, and not in the good way.
