And just like that, my summer has ended. This summer went NOTHING like I had anticipated. Literally every goal I made in May was thrown out the window in June all because of some 90 mph curveballs that came flying at me without any sort of warning. Ever since June, I've had to make adjustments to my sleep schedule, my commute schedule, my summer work schedule, my fall work schedule, my school schedule, and even my major/minor. It's been all sorts of scary, frustrating, exhilarating, educational, and exhausting to say the least. I spent a lot of time praying for a miracle that honestly may never come, but God certainly answered my prayers with tons of incredible blessings: amazing trips to Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Idaho, days/weeks/months with amazing children who will forever be in my heart, temple trips that provided more revelation than I ever thought possible, adventures with my favorite people, beautiful weddings for beautiful friends, and even purple hairs (which sadly have to go away this week). The miracle I wanted may not have come, but the blessings I received in place of that miracle will be cherished forever. Special thanks to my people for helping me survive this crazy summer and navigate the Provo business. I'm forever grateful for my friends and family, for the adventures we all shared this summer, and for God leading me to where I am now. The next 3 weeks are all about packing, job training, moving, signing a gazillion papers, and then starting a whole new life at a whole new school in a whole new place. Goodbye Summer 2019! https://www.instagram.com/p/B1VZRaGp4fVAAhx4ve_IaRI9QM_Esc2_-Q3rh00/?igshid=abayb0vq5885

i think rickrolling is the only meme that gets objectively funnier with age. in 2009 you learned to anticipate it but in 2019 it happens just infreqently enough that i fall for it every single time

every year around christmas me and my grandma play this fun family game called “maybe you want to put jesus in your room instead, sweetie? :)”. now, it’s important to note that the jesus referred to in our game is not actually the real jesus christ, but instead a wooden figure i made in 2011 that has an uncanny resemblance to the lord and savior himself
so what happens is that i place jesus in our living room, and my grandma smiles and asks me if i don’t want to decorate my room with him instead. i ask her in return if she thinks my jesus figure is ugly (which he is), but she reassures me that this is not the case. however, a couple of days later jesus mysteriously disappears from our living room, and appear in my room instead
now, the real jesus christ might have been able to perform a miracle like this, but please remember that the jesus in our story is only a figure made out of wood. he can not move on his own, so i think we can safely say that my grandma is the prime suspect here
the first year i would often confront my grandma about this, but she would always make up an excuse and never straight up tell me she moved him because he’s so ugly it’s an embarrassment to the family
eventually i grew tired of her lies, so now we only move jesus around in silence. one second he’s in the living room, the next he’s back in my room. in a way i think this adds an extra element of excitement to the holiday season, because you never know for sure when jesus is going to be moved again

the fact that tangled has a perfect set-up for major miscommunication between rapunzel and eugene to be the final emotional climax of the movie (“why’d you leave me”) but instead sidesteps that in favor of a beautiful battle between the two of them in which they try to out-sacrifice each other because they love and understand each other that much. the fact that they each try to save the other using the best means they’ve got at their disposal, the ones they’ve used their whole lives: rapunzel bargaining with mother gothel and promising away pieces of herself- this time all of herself- in exchange for his safety, Eugene pulling one final scam and trick when he feigns tenderly touching her face so he can actually cut off all her hair and set her free. the fact that Eugene’s plan works but as a result he dies, Flynn dies. (he told us this at the beginning, “this is the story of how I died” but remember- it’s a fun story.) The fact that the swashbuckling rogue and trickster and thief Flynn DIES so that rapunzel, the girl who never got to have a life, can LIVE. The fact that after one final successful trick Flynn dies so Eugene, little lost orphan boy, can rise again in his final and only role as a good man and as rapunzel’s husband- all of these make tangled the masterpiece it is. in this essay I will
