itoshi sae regrets ever giving into his intrusive thoughts—or more specifically—his and shidou's intrusive thoughts.

nothing was even supposed to happen that night. sae was only staying in japan for a few more days after the u-20s match had ended, and even though they had lost, he didn’t care. it wasn’t his reputation that had been damaged. however japan's under twenties team captain aiku had insisted on them all going out for drinks together, to "cheer up," which sae had reluctantly agreed to in order to appease his manager.

so yes, shidou had a few too many drinks in his system, and sae had drank as well. though the latter wasn't nearly as tipsy, it was enough to cloud his judgement.

that was the beginning of the end for sae.

"saeeeee," shidou slurred, a mischievous gleam in his pinkish eyes. "y'know what would look awesome on you?"

"huh?" the same disinterested tone that always came out whenever sae spoke.

"something 'bout your eyebrows, i dunno. like one of those eyebrow slits...wait, no! an eyebrow piercing, that would be an explosion!" although his words were barely coherent, the blonde seemed excited at the prospect, scrolling through his phone for something.

an eyebrow piercing? sae had never put much thought into that before, or any bodily piercing for that matter. would it really look good on him? he wasn't one to trust shidou's erratic taste, but...

sae recalls a conversation he had, not so long ago.

"i think guys with piercings are cool," you'd said over call a few nights back.

"huh?" sae had the same reaction to both your and shidou's insane suggestions. "no way, it'd probably mess up my soccer. and i'd look stupid."

you'd frowned at him through the pixels of his phone. "well, i'm not seriously asking you to get one, but it'd be hot, that's all."

"saeeee," in the short few seconds sae had been mulling over what you'd told him, shidou had come up to him again. sae raised an eyebrow, looking at the devilish boy pointedly. "we should totally do it. for fucks sake, we're in shibuya! there's loads of piercing studios around here!"

what happened next was enough to make the sober sae want to swear off alcohol for a lifetime.

he had actually agreed with shidou, and allowed himself to be dragged out of the bar, away from his teammates. the two stumbled into a brightly lit store, the employees giving them both questionable glances upon arrival.

"we want eyebrow piercings." shidou announced, showing them a reference picture—a silver, metal rod vertical against the eyebrow.

"...are you guys sure?" the girl working had asked. shidou nodded enthusiastically, and sae followed suit against his better judgement, somewhat dazed. the only thing that pushed sae to agree at that moment was the prospect of your reaction. would you think he was hot now? would your face turn bright red, would you gasp at-

a sharp pang drew sae back to reality, and he almost winced.

"it's done," the girl stated, handing them both a mirror. sae blinked. yeah, there was a thing in his eyebrow alright—the gleam of the cool metal was hard to miss. he didn't think too much of it, except that its angularity made his face and jawline appear sharper. if sae had to describe it, he might have chosen the word edgy, his hair was too pink for him to look emo.

"ooh sae, it's even better than i thought!" without warning, shidou snapped a selfie.

"delete that," sae's frigid glare should have been enough to scare him. unfortunately, it was shidou, and he was drunk.

"and...already posted, woohoo!"

sae was dragged out of the shop as quickly as he had came in, and the rest of the night was an alarming void in his memories. he hadn't the foggiest idea of how he made it back to his hotel, except that he woke up today after you had called him.

"morning, cariño."

"itoshi sae, are you possesed?" is that the start of some odd pick up line?

"i'm perfectly fine, thank you? did you really call me to ask that?" sae furrows a brow. he will never understand your train of thought, even after being with you for years.

"hello? do you not know what shidou posted? and i swear you said you'd never get any piercings..." your voice rings out loud and clear.

so that explains why sae awoke with a splitting headache.

"shit," he mutters, racing to the bathroom mirror. sure enough, that stupid piercing was still there, happily resting in his left brow. "i'll kill shidou," he groans, regret coursing through his body. surely last night was just a fever dream; he would have been insane to agree to match something so permanent with that blonde bug.

"don't you dare take it out, itoshi sae!" your sound is muffled now, given that sae had thrown the phone into his blankets.

"and why shouldn't i?"

"it's hot. also you might get an infection and that'd look bad." it's hot? it slowly dawns on sae the new leverage he holds over you.

"ohhh, so you like this," he starts, reaching back for the phone and bringing it up to his face. he's got a cocky smirk stuck to his lips, enjoying your flustered expression as he takes you up close and personal.

"stop it! i might die, you freak!" you actually sound pained, like he had sucked all the breath out of your lungs. sae snickers.

"let's see how you hold up when i come home, amor."

bonus: you could not wait for sae to come back to spain now. sure enough, when you finally greet him at the airport, he's got the same shit-eating grin on, sporting that damn piercing like he was the finest man alive (you think he is.) "sae!" you begin running towards him, and depsite trying to act nonchalant before, his feelings win and sae finds himself headed towards you as well. "missed you," you mutter into his arms after the collision. he doesn't say anything except pull you closer to his chest. when you look up, you think you might faint right there at the baggage claim area. "like what you see?" he's smirking again. "SAE!" you're bright pink now, curse your boyfriend for being too attractive!

both you and rin were met with the dull sky and hammering sound patterns of the intense downpour after your group studying session.

the sun was ready to set at any time by the look of things.

everyone went their separate paths but as for you and rin, you guys were the last to gather your belongings.

you two were now stuck seeking shelter under the small roof that the university's library entrance offered as the rain glossed over the series of cement stairs.

the atmosphere between you and rin being a bit stiff due to the fact you guys never shared a moment outside of school purposes.

maybe if you were lucky, you'd receive a small glance from itoshi rin during long lectures. a glance that he thought would go unnoticed by you.

"just take it." rin's firm voice rung through the sounds of the downpour hitting the cement.

his hand that held onto the umbrella, reached out towards your own as if to force your hand in taking his umbrella.

his azure eyes raking over you, blinking ever so softly which emphasized his long bottom lashes.

though rin's expression was always indifferent, there was a subtle hint of sincerity. a sincerity that you’ve never seen before.

"but what about you?" you withdrew from his reaching hand, concern lacing your soft tone.

he scoffed, his eyes remaining fixated on your face.

his expression unreadable as ever, yet the way his azure gaze lingered on your features told a different story.

his eyes never failed to cause a dry lump in your throat as you returned his gaze.

you weren't sure if it was because he intimidated you or he was easily the most attractive man you've laid your eyes on.

intimidatingly attractive. you settled with that thought in your mind.

"i'm fine, you'll need it more than me." his voice low yet persistent.

his hand with the umbrella remained reached out ahead of you with a subtle frown settling on his features. it was evident that rin was equally, if not more, stubborn than you.

"itoshi, don't be ridiculous. it's your umbrella, i'm not gonna jus-"

rin's hand extended from his previous stance, grabbing onto your own as he firmly placed the umbrella into your hands.

his touch sending a wave of sensation as his hand lingered for a second too long. or so you thought.

you weren't sure if the close proximity that you both were introduced to was to blame or the mini crush that you always had for itoshi rin.

but the gentle brush of his fingers against yours caused a subtle hint of pink to dust over your skin. god, you’re so single.

"just use it." he muttered, shoving his hands into the pockets of his sweater and striding out from the little shelter provided into the heavy rain.

what is his issue? you could see the hammering droplets engulfing his figure, his dark hair becoming damp by the second.

"itoshi, are you crazy?!" you yelled as his back faced you, ignoring your loud concern at his behavior.

the dull sky was getting darker as time went on and the heavy rain would not let up. why rin itoshi would think it’s a good idea to walk in this condition was beyond you.

without a second thought, you opened the umbrella mindlessly and swiftly followed the taller male like a lost puppy.

once you eventually caught up with his long strides, you extended your arm with the umbrella to accommodate with his height.

"i think sharing the umbrella would be a good idea instead of walking in the rain like an manic." you muttered through your teeth.

it came to your attention that the umbrella could not accommodate to both of you when standing a bit far from each other.

the heavy rain was slightly soaking your right arm as your left hand held up the small umbrella, hoping to give each other more coverage.

rin spared you a glance, noticing the way you were struggling badly attempting to hold the umbrella over his head.

he then sighs deeply at your own persistence. his chest heaving with slight annoyance. as if he was the only one who should be allowed to be a pain in the ass stubborn.

“here, let me hold it.”

his firm hands took the umbrella from yours in a gentle manner, an contrast to the indifferent expression plastered on his face.

"don't be stupid. come closer." he muttered, noticing the way your sleeve had gotten soaked.

he slightly walked closer, not giving you a second to do it on your own as your arms pressed against each others. as sad as it sounds, the contact sent a spark through your flesh.

almost as if he was eager but then again, who are you to try to read itoshi rin's behavior?

it was weird though. he didn't seem to mind, it was as if he purposely kept his arm still to maintain the little contact between each other.

for a moment, there was a comfortable silence that fell over the both of you. the only source of noise being the soft pattern of rain hitting the umbrella.

at times you would take a quick glance at rin on your side. his expression hardened as if he was in deep thought.

"something on your mind?" you asked, breaking the silent atmosphere. your head tilted slightly to the side as your body turned to face rin a bit.

"yeah." he muttered. rin didn't bother sparing you a glance, his gaze ahead.

"like what?"

"like how this creep is constantly staring at me." he said, his tone both dry and sarcastic.

his eyes met with yours with a deadpan expression lingering on his features.

"who- oh my god, shut up." you swatted his arm, genuine laughter escaping your lips.

who knew itoshi rin had a sense of humor?

"wait-" you started, remembering all of the times you noticed rin stealing glances of you in lectures.

"don't think you're slick in class acting like i don't see you looking at me all the time!" your finger poked against his chest firmly to empathize your words.

for once, rin's cat-like eyes widened as your scrutinized gaze met with his widened, doe eyes.

and there it was again, that silence overcoming the two of you as you two stared each other down. your pace slowing down a bit.

"i... i don't do that." he sharply spat, shying away from your eyes.

at his sudden change in demeanor, you could only confirm that you weren't being delusional all those times. there was a subtle tint of pink dusting over his ear as you continued to look up at him.

it was clear the itoshi rin was flustered.

the only words conversed after that was the location of his dorm building, luckily it was close to yours.

"here's my building." you pointed to the brick structure as you two approached the entrance.

after the moment you both shared, he was too quiet. although, rin was a man of few words, his silence was deafening.

standing ahead of the front entrance, you turned to face rin's towering figure. his eyes hard to read as he met yours.

"your dorm is close by, right?" you asked, tilting your head slightly.

"yeah." his answer short and dry, his analyzing gaze still on your features.

"oh is it the building over there?" you nodded off into the distance at the other building a couple feet away.

"yeah." again, his answer still short. his eyes had some of internal turmoil.

"well..." you started, "thank you for walking me home, itoshi."

you looked up to the umbrella, "and keeping me dry."

"rin." his tone low and strained. as if he was holding himself back from saying more.

"huh?"

"call me rin, from now on."

"oh.. okay. well, thank you again, rin." you offered a soft smile. there was slight twitch of his lips at the sound of his name escaping your lips.

"i'll.. see you tomorrow, yn." he nodded slightly before hesitantly departing from your company.

for a moment, you continued to watch him walk away in the opposite direction of the other dorm building. then it clicked, he lied. the only other building was across the campus. did that mean he only walked here for you?

if it couldn't get worse, your eyes traveled to the left sleeve of his sweater being absolutely drenched with rain.

rin itoshi was a selfless man.

the vibration seeping from your phone brought you out of your slight trance as you were applying your lip gloss, admiring your reflection after freshening up your appearance.

the dim lighting of your fairy lights added to the cozy atmosphere in your room, casting a dim glow on your features. it was essential that your room exuded your aesthetic since it was also your side job to stream.

won't this be awkward? those same words racing through your mind, it wasn't everyday that you were to show up to an strangers surprise party. but then again, you would be around isagi, chigiri and bachira which oddly puts your racing thoughts to rest.

it wasn't like you were an awkward person but this social gathering you were invited to left you with a bitter taste in your mouth. an overwhelming cloud looming in the back of your head.

"isagi said to come outside and stop making him wait." lina's blunt voice cut through your thoughts, your gaze instantly meeting with her deadpan stare due to the impatient nature of isagi.

her soft bangs falling over her eyes as she lazily dragged herself to gather her belongings. the belongings being her lip combo and a miffy plush hung on the side of her purse.

you could feel an eyeroll incoming before getting ahold of your purse and lina's arm making your way out of your apartment. the soft beep of the door confirming that it was locked.

as you two made your way out of the lobby, the frigid air settling on your body like a thin sheet of ice, as you both fight the urge to shiver.

"do you think their friend is gonna be hot?" lina muttered softly, nudging you slightly with her elbow. a knowingly look on her face.

you scoffed, "doubt it." your soft breath becoming a small cloud disappearing into the evening's air before you could study it too hard.

"hey, you never know. maybe it'll finally be your time to shine." her grin was growing with each word.

“maybe it’ll be one of those tropes, strangers to lovers type stories that you always read.” lina said, using her hands to imply more of her fantasy.

a small smile graced your lips, “oh my god, shut up.” a bit embarrassed about your habit of reading romance books, pushing her shoulder.

“i can only read about it because it’ll never happen again.” you shrugged.

"you've been in your shell for too long, yn." her words held a certain care, she had knowledge of your past experience causing her words to hit deep in your gut.

you could only scoff, attempting to brush the sentimental atmosphere off that lina had created with her concern.

"oh my, please don't get all sentimental with me. you know i can't handle it." you laughed nervously, nudging her arm a bit as isagi's car came into your view.

before lina could respond, bachira swung opened the car door. you were grateful that the conversation ended before it got too sappy.

"hurry hurry!" his voice echoed throughout the crisp air, urging you to move quickly as you hopped into the backseat with bachira and lina taking the passenger seat.

"what are you doing here, bachi?" you cocked your head to the side slightly as isagi began to pull out of the apartment's parking lot.

"he's too damn careless to drive after a party, you know that." isagi's voice cut through.

reminding you of the time after lina's collab with chigiri, you guys had drunk just to ease the stage of getting to know each other. yet bachira had other things in mind as he claimed he "accidentally" drank too much and threw up all over lina's new rug.

there was an awkward silence as you all started reminising on bachira's horrible decision making.
