My deepest darkest fantasy is that I collapse on the street and I am rushed to the hospital. They perform a bunch of tests and find out I am severely deficient in some kind of vitamin. Then I start taking the vitamin and I become the happiest cleverest person alive because all my problems were caused by this one deficiency

My father-in-law is a collector of many amazing things and while poking around his stuff I found this:
Tumblr media
This is the actual sales booklet by WF Mangels, the company that patented one of the coolest rides of the 1910's
On the Wikipedia page you can see Fatty Arbuckle riding it with two lucky ladies!
Tumblr media
I am fortunate that I've done many a loop on a vintage Whip that is still in operation here in the USA. It's fun and silly and great to ride with kids or people you love to smoosh.
A few more pics of the booklet:

I’ve never made a meme before, but everyone is raving about this angler fish so I decided to add in my input as a bioecologist 🧫

I grew up in the northeastern us (New England) and always heard it called "a horse bite". I actually found a thread of people comparing types of pinches and what they are called.
Okay fuck my poll right I'm just gonna talk about it and it seems like a "mule eating corn" is just an ultra rareified southern phrase. For those of you who don't know, this is when someone pinched the top of your knee in order to tickle you in much the same way as if they were messing with your funny bone in your elbow. I went researching and only found like 3 more examples of the phrase in use and they're all in the deeper south but not one particular area of it. Swamp and mountain people both use this term. But also I don't know another term for this action.

Found this beautiful 1920's copy of Elek Benedek's Hungarian folktales. I have no idea what story the snails are from but they are so freaking cool.

This is such a huge problem. In January a car ran a red light and totaled my little sedan. Amazingly I walked right out of the crash uninjured (thank you seatbelt and airbag) but it's been really hard on my mental health and ability to get out of the house. And to add insult to (psychic) injury, the day of the crash I was omw to the hospital to receive a nerve block for chronic pain. LIFE, MAN.
idk. too many people drive like they don’t realize (or care) that they could die and/or kill someone. as a result of the way they are driving. sorry if i sound lame or ancient i just feel insane witnessing the lack of concern on a regular basis. The vehicle you are in is thousands of pounds going many miles an hour. do you know this

As a mom I have experienced having my kid ask about sensitive issues and you know what? You can explain just about anything to a kid if you meet them at their level. There is a huge gulf between explicit details and basic facts. I "explained" sex to my kindergartner as when people touch each other's bodies in a way that feels good, and masturbation as touching your own body in a way that feels good. Told him that people usually don't get interested in it until they start puberty and that it's something adults should do with other adults, not with kids. These little bits of information were all he needed at that age and I was so happy to begin a dialogue with him that lets him know there is nothing shameful about being interested in your body as a source of pleasure. That was years ago and I'm happy to say he is still asking questions - it's when they stop asking that things can get scary.

May everyone feel as adored as the consort who received a jadeite cabbage with hidden bugs from her lover.

Jadeite Cabbage with Insects
a piece of jadeite carved to look like a bokchoy with a locust and a katydid hidden amongst its leaves. Originally a gift to the consort of the Qing Emperor in 1889, it is today housed in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, Taiwan.
