UPDATE:

I found this book and can't recommend it enough. It's a 600 page discussion of every study published about mystery snails, ranging from taxonomy to biology to ecology. I was able to interlibrary loan it from a university in Texas! The author is completely charming and loves these snails and ends the preface with a photo he took of ducklings swimming in his pool.
