Today we are playing at the indoor play area in Burger King, not because I love it here, but because I needed to get my guy out of the house after he was cooped up for so many days with the flu. I listened as the mom next to me had to discipline her little boy because he was playing tag a little too roughly with another little girl, and I wanted to give her a high five because she did it so well (but I refrained because I didn’t want to interfere with someone else doing the tough part of being a parent). I have quite a few relatives who think being a parent means procreating, but that doesn’t make you a parent. Bringing children into the world and abandoning them over and over again is not being a parent and certainly not an expression of love. Being a parent means being there for it all, the sweet moments, the tough moments, the happy moments, the sad moments. When you are a parent, you don’t run away every time life gets tough. You stay there through it all because that child depends on you and thinks you are the most important person in the world. If you can’t give your all, let someone else parent that child, because they need someone who will truly be there unconditionally.
