"I remember John only as a great genius of the bass guitar. A true innovator who was still able to astound me with his dexterity and invention. Probably he was a better musician than I will ever be. I also genuinely loved him, he was a supporter and proper friend of mine from the age of 13. We first met even earlier than that. He was funny, generous and caring. We shared a great passion for dogs."
— Pete Townshend on the passing of John Entwistle. Quote taken from Pete’s now-defunct online diary, April 10, 2004. (x)

It’s clear that spiders and bass guitars are John’s true love

Where did John’s fascination for morbid things come from? When John’s great Grandma died, the only room she could be laid out in her coffin was in John’s bedroom. (John did not sleep in his room whilst Great Grandma occupied it.) John went to see her in his bedroom, in those days pennies were placed over the corpses eyes. This frightened the bloody life out of him. After she was buried, John returned to his bedroom. There was a long corridor to get to his room, which he used to tear along (running) jump into bed and hide underneath the bed sheets until it got light. (Queenie Entwistle)

“As a child I was never the bully – I was one of the bullied. I actually based Cousin Kevin on a boy who lived across the street. Our parents thought we should play together, and he was completely sadistic. I was much smaller and he played tricks on me and threatened to stick pins in my fingers. But it had a happy ending. I suddenly grew larger and kicked the shit out of him.”
— John Entwistle. (via nineteen67)
