It’s an odd time to be alive, and no one is more uncomfortable than Dollar Signs. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, a place that’s full of rash ideology that has seen its fair share of conflict. Dollar Signs was the project of Erik Button and Luke Gunn, a folk punk duo that sang anthems of awkwardness and discomfort as the 2000s closed out its first decade. Come 2012, the band had grown up and added two new members, Dylan Wachman, who screams and plays bass guitar, and Arion Chamberlain, their lovable drummer. A two-piece turned full-band provided Erik with a means in which to write more complex songs with big hooks and powerful choruses - anthems for the disenfranchised twenty-somethings and teens alike.
There’s a fear to growing old in a world that doesn’t care about you, and Dollar Signs can relate; as a diverse group of friends who try to solve their problems in sweat-soaked rooms and dingy basements, singing and dancing away the fear. It’s group therapy for weekend warriors who have to work jobs that they hate. It’s a gala of cheap beer and sweaty hugs. Dollar Signs may as well be the band that played on the deck of the Titanic as it sank into the freezing ocean. We’re all in this together, and Dollar Signs knows that. After the release of their self-released full length album, Yikes, the band has been hitting the road and getting acquainted with the van - and now two tours, three blown tires, a branded hot sauce, another guitar player named Eric, and a family-size box of Tums later, they’re ready to do it again. This may not last forever, but for now, while there’s still a tinge of hopelessness in the air, Dollar Signs needs to party with you, because it’s the only way to survive the times.

Very excited to announce that we will be working with @nakednaps on their upcoming LP. We’re expecting a summer release, so stay tuned! 😍❤
Maybe during the inauguration isn’t the best time to be making these posts, but we couldn’t wait. Also we need good things right now, during these not so great times.
This administration is shaping up to be very unkind to women, POC and LGBTQIA+ identifying people, so if you need assistance please feel free to reach out to us or to your community. We also highly support @thetrevorproject and recommend giving them a call. 1-866-488-7386.

•State Line Machine” 4-way split Compilation LP (Dullest Records)- Announce Preorders and Song Premiere on Modern Vinyl•
New 4-way split 12” EP featuring new tracks by Easy Creatures, Son & Heir, Worth, and Hold Down the Ocean ~ to be released February 16, 2017. LINK HERE: http://modern-vinyl.com/2017/01/20/son-heir-head-up-new-12-split/ Each of the bands features members that are mainstays of the punk and hardcore community in that area, each bringing a sound that is reminiscent of the 90’s heyday while never veering into the territory of a tired rehash. This record is not nostalgia, it’s a reminder of why that era was so important to begin with.
PREORDER LINK:http://bit.ly/2jGphNQ 1. Easy Creatures- Dark Dreams 2. Easy Creatures- Chew Toy 3. Hold Down the Ocean- A Story From the Halfway House 4. Hold Down the Ocean- The Underdog Wins 5. Son & Heir- Phantom or Ghost 6. Son & Heir- Where Light May Lead 7. Worth- Dead Weight 8. Worth- Relax The album will be available on vinyl & digital formats via Dullest Records on February 16th, 2017.
Easy Creatures features former members of original Jade Tree artists Railhead and Walleye and continues their 20+ year association with a new take on the aggressive and passionate melodic rock that was the signature of their previous incarnations.
Hold Down The Ocean is comprised of the primary songwriters of Philadelphia metalcore veterans All Else Failed, and has progressed from being a “space rock” alter ego into a full time band, adding textured and layered soundscapes to their well established sound.
Son & Heir features former members of Boysetsfire and adds the post-rock elements of Thrice and Failure to their high energy approach.
Worth, from Newark, DE, add the darkside to the mix, channeling Unsane and early Helmet into an unsettling and thoroughly punishing noise rock vibe.
Hold Down The Ocean guitarist/vocalist Patrick Shannon had this to say about the project:
“Hold Down The Ocean was looking to do a split 7” with someone, and there are just an absurd number of really great bands in our area right now, so I had approached a few about the possibility. The first three I thought of were Son & Heir, Easy Creatures and Worth. I asked each thinking that maybe one of them would have the tracks available or would be into doing it. Within a week or so all 3 said yes and I said whoops, ‘I guess it’s a comp now!’
The name comes from an old run down machine shop on the Pennsylvania/Delaware border on Rt. 202. It just spoke to me for some reason, as each of our bands have ties in Philadelphia, Chester County, PA and Wilmington/Newark, DE. It made me think of all the countless times each of the bands have probably crossed that line, in one direction or the other, and how our scene, which I look back on so fondly, is being revived in such different new directions. I talk to many people throughout the bands on this record and other bands in our area and so many people say the same thing, which is that they haven’t been this excited about music since the early 90s. I think this record is a document of that love and passion.”

•HUNGRY GIRL “COOL SHOTS” DIGITAL EP (REFRESH RECORDS) SONG PREMIERE ON CLTURE•
Link: http://clture.org/hungry-girl-cool-shots
Hungry Girl (members of Columns, One Another) is the kind of music that inspires you to bust out your sleeveless Van Halen t-shirt and American flag bandana from the back of the dresser, as you dream of surfing the hood of a cherry red Ferrari Daytona that’s driving away from an explosion while catching and chugging Miller High Life cans shot at you from a helicopter’s mounted machine gun. The band will always lift your mood when you listen. The rock and roll duo, featuring guitarist and front-man Dede Skip and drummer Jimmy Blaze, mixes classic rock influences with modern day riffs and thunderous drumming to create timeless hits. With the band’s latest EP, Cool Shots, you’re taken on a six song journey to the heart of rock and roll. From an introspective and self-critical glimpse at the creation of music to a riff-laden, head-banging ode to beautiful women, Cool Shots delivers a well-balanced EP that will appeal to long-time fans and new listeners alike. Cool Shots was recorded and mixed by Powerstance at Radpad (Columns, 2013 Wolves) and mastered by Dave Harris at Studio B Mastering (Kylesa, ANTiSEEN, Bombadil). Artwork designed by local artist and fellow musician, Lee Herrera. Cool Shots marks the second release from Hungry Girl on Refresh Records. The EP will be available this January on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Music, and other digital retailers. FFO: Local H, Red Fang, Quicksand, Jeff the Brotherhood. PREORDER LINK: http://bit.ly/2gayyfe 1. •TOTALLY SLOW “BLEED OUT” LP/CD (Self Aware/Negative Fun Records) SONG PREMIERE ON NEW NOISE MAGAZINE• Link: http://newnoisemagazine.com/song-premiere-totally-slow-idol-hands/ Totally Slow deal in immediacy: they wanna shake you out and put some NOW in your system. For three friends who have spent two decades throwing off sparks at basement shows and DIY warehouse spots in other bands, it’s been a rejection of complacency and a conscious commitment to the present moment. Tempered by the ethos of 80s hardcore and 90s indie. As much as the band seeks to cure their own creative restlessness, Totally Slow tirelessly champion their local scene, repping their friend’s bands and progressive politics like patches on a fine denim jacket.
Although their music builds on classic sounds, Saccharine Trust as Superchunk as The Replacements, the true pleasure is in how they wield these familiar implements like expert stone masons. Live and on record, they’re a phalanx of melody and guts, churning and burning with insistent hooks and tough energy, all amply demonstrated on the Kris Hilbert (Legitimate Business) recorded debut LP, 2014’s split 7″ with Charlotte, NC’s Black Market (Self Aware Recs) and their newest LP “Bleed Out” (Self Aware / Negative Fun Records).

Au Revoir “Veles”
Elusive Sound
Bandcamp
Press Release:
Au Revoir are a heavy expansive instrumental doom rock five-piece from New Jersey that has stolen our hearts with their exceptional ability to create sublime, expansive soundscapes and hypnotic crushing doom.  After two solid releases in “In the Key Of Night” and “Black Hills” Au Revoir went into Backroom Studios with the intent of their next album sounding as huge as they do live. They have at long last not only accomplished that with Scott Moriarty but also produced an absolute stunner of an ever-evolving concept album that we immediately embraced and were determined to release in Europe.
Au Revoir have reformed themselves as a huge serpent, coiling tightly around the roots that lead us into the wet underworld of Veles. It is not only a world of wet grassy plains and eternal spring but one where we find ourselves in the deepest of caverns, watched over by the ghosts of the dead, awaiting impending doom. Veles is richly bleak with decadence but the listener never succumbs or falls prey. He watches the ground ripple like water and feels an irresistible urge to be lost in Veles’ violent sway.
Au Revoir have shed their old skin and are now full-bodied and in constant transformation, reborn as a lethally charged bringer of chaos. Veles unveils the descent of man into utter misery. When one stands and contemplates his fate, the troubles that have fallen, looks back at the path they have taken to reach their end, surrendering to their undoing by taking one last breath and bracing themselves for the full force of impact as the water comes rushing over.
Self-released on vinyl in the US March 1, 2016
Soon to be released on deluxe vinyl in Europe via Elusive Sound

Au Revoir weighs in with five songs that inspire them
The new LP from Au Revoir, Veles, is something to behold. The group, split between New Jersey and Virginia, alternates effortlessly between bone-chilling catharsis and earnest self-reflection. The album’s opening number, “The Bottom,” is unnervingly direct in its approach, before transitioning to a reflective second half. (There’s even trumpets!) “Sinking” takes a similar approach, as the group threatens to detonate amidst the tumult of self-loathing and potentially misplaced fury. Finally, 17-minute closing track “Deluge” embodies the band’s turbulent manner —  the first half is portentous and explosive, with a measured rage, before the track climaxes with an extended Mogwai-esque crescendo. It’s simply divine. CL got in touch with the group to find out the five songs that inspire them — not necessarily in their sound per se, but in terms of personal influence; tracks that speak to them.
Pennywise - “Fuck Authority”
“We don’t fucking like cops, we don’t fucking like managers and we don’t fucking like teachers.”
Good Charlotte - “The Young and the Hopeless”
“These critics and these trust fund kids, trying to tell me what Punk is. When I see them in the streets they got nothin’ to saaaaaayyyyy!”
Aus-Rotten - “B.A.T.F.”
“Because fuck the A.T.F.”
Metallica - “Fuel”
“We live that white knuckle tight life.”
311 - “Love Song”
“Gregg [Peterson] is a hopeless Internet romantic, hence, taking a bus from Virginia to Texas, to hang out with a girl he met on Tinder.”
Catch the band tonight at the WonderRoot with locals Pallow, Brother Bard, and Hallowed. $5. 9 p.m. 982 Memorial Dr S.E. 404-254-5955. www.wonderroot.org.

•BOILERMAN “FEEL WAYS ABOUT STUFF” LP/CD (86d Records) SONG PREMIERE ON SCENE POINT BLANK• Link: http://www.scenepointblank.com/news/mp3s/2016/03/21/spb-premiere-junkyards-battery-acid-boilerman/ With four EPs, an LP, and a slew of cassettes and compilations released since their 2010 demo, Boilerman has played over 170 shows across the US and Canada. The band’s sophomore full length is 12 new songs using a sonic pallet drawn as much from bands like Leatherface and Articles of Faith as it is contemporaries like Canadian Rifle, Tenement, and Witches with Dicks. The album is rounded out by a faithful cover of The Mice’s 1986 “Not Proud Of The USA” and illustrations by Shannon Thompson.
PRESS QUOTES:   “Over the course of its five-year existence, Boilerman has become a cornerstone of Chicago’s DIY punk scene… the quintessential Chicago pop-punk band of this decade.” - AV Club “It’s fast, coarse, energetic, and vitriolic with shades of melody that give an anthemic rage.” - Scenepointblank
“…a more contemporary comparison would be that this sounds like the "legit pop-punk” of bands like Tenement (and… is there anyone else who does it well?) filtered through the aesthetic of askew, Die Kreuzen-influenced hardcore bands like Raw Nerve or Nasa Space Universe.“  - Sorry State Newsletter Associated Acts: Earth Girls, Broken Prayer, GIDIM

Music: Easy Creatures: "Sick Day" (Punknews Exclusive)
Today, Punknews is pleased to debut a song from the new EP by Easy Creatures, which features members of Walleye, Railhed and One Up! The song is called “Sick Day,” and it appears on Low Fidelity, which finds the band relishing in anthemic, heartfelt choruses. But every so often, they strip back the huge sound and focus on intimate, angular sketches. If anything, it sounds like these guys definitely dig The Hold Steady and Weezer. The release is out April 8 via Self-Aware Records. You can pre-order here and hear the whole thing below, right now. via Punknews.org (http://pnkn.ws/1M8nUEO)
