gottabebenjy:
“I had to restart my record collection some time. I figured this was the best way to do it,” he said, clutching Michael Jackson’s ‘Off the Wall’ record to his chest as he hobbled closer, “It just released today - I waited all night to buy it.“
To Annie, it appeared that Benjy was clinging to the record like she had first held Kira - delicately, a little fearful, like dropping them would be the end of the world. “Really? You’re christening your new record collection with Michael?” Shaking her head, she looked genuinely disappointed in him. “You couldn’t have thought of anything else?”

dellablackburn:
Della ran a hand through her hair, circling yet another apartment in that morning’s Daily Prophet, paperwork momentarily abandoned as she drained the contents of her coffee cup, “Is this supposed to be so hard?”
Annie shrugged, unsure of what to say to her. She had settled on the first apartment when she had left school that was central enough, and didn’t smell too much like other people. “You could always slum it with us for awhile. Though I’m not sure how Ed would feel about that, but, you know, he’s slept on the sofa before.”

gryffindorsmckinnon:
“Yes, i saw him. He was the one who told me to come check on you, ‘cause he knew if he did, then he’d never leave and get his job done.” Marlene said back, easily. She wouldn’t lie about these things. Not to Annie, of all people, either. “They need to wait until everything’s safe, Annie. C’mon, you know this.” It frustrated Marlene when people who were clearly hurt, or had been in trouble were so ready to risk it all over again. She knew they were worried, but what use could they really be? She shook her head, slightly touched at Annie’s questions. Nobody ever asked her how she was. “I’m fine.” It was the safest answer she knew. “I always am.” I have to be.
Even though Annie continued to frown at Marlene, and the Healer, and at anyone else who dared to be in her vicinity, she could hear how earnestly she spoke. “...Not surprised. I might have to jump on him, and then hit him, and then hug him for a few hours when I see him. Probably not helpful when you’re doing your job.” She knew if Ed was in this position somehow, she would make sure he sat here, for hours if necessary, getting patched up as fast as possible, ignoring any grunts or whines she heard from his side. Stubbornly, she didn’t answer Marlene at first, jaw tightening as a result of this. Both of them were clearly frustrated, and naturally so - this situation, again, was one none of the Order could have anticipated. “Because you always are doesn’t mean you should be, McKinnon. Tell me the truth. Lay it on me. You feel shit?”

“I’m giving it back, or I plan too,” she paused looking up from the file in her hand, “What about that makes it sound like I’m not serious?”
She frowned at Alice, obviously not approving of her decision - Alice was such a noble, selfless woman, and because of that, she couldn’t see how idiotic she was being. “Because it’s stupid. You got the medal because you deserve it. It’s not like you borrowed a shirt from a friend!”

Andy frowned in puzzlement. “About my birthday being tomorrow? I am, indeed. Is that a problem?”
She stopped herself from revealing the real reason that little fact bothered her. Because it’s my mother’s birthday tomorrow, and I didn’t even remember that. “No. It’s not.” Annie was silenced by her own surprise. “Are... you excited?”

“Serious about me having just returned directly from the office? Yes, I am. I know it’s nine p.m. but, work’s been…well, work.”
Annie scoffed, without humour - she wasn’t angry at Mels, simply at how hard she worked. “You can’t be working that long, that hard, without any proper break, Bones. I’m already worried enough about one of you, don’t make me stay up late thinking about you too.”

I’m just the one that cries the most, that doesn’t make me the baby. [ he nods, lips pursed ] Yeah. I don’t know, B, I don’t know. Right now I don’t understand or know anything, and it’s— it’s suffocating. [ he sighs and sits down on the bed, pulling annie close to him and nestling kira in their arms between them ] Are you okay? Do I need to yell at healers to get you better care? [ he nods ] She was taking a nap, it was the poor babysitter that was more freaked out. I paid her extra; I don’t think she’ll be babysitting for us anymore. [ he frowns at her ] Annie… I don’t– I-I don’t know if that’s… if we can do that, I mean.
In spite of everything, and how terrible it all was right now, Ed still found a way to ease some of the weight off of her shoulders, back into the atmosphere - the problem with that was that it made her realize that it might creep onto his. “You’re my baby. And so is Kira. Our baby.” The look in his eyes, like he was barely holding it together, made tears rush violently to her eyes, and she wanted desperately to help, but she still didn’t know how. She shuffled closer to him, silently feeling like she was shielding him from whatever could possibly come at them, through the door. “I’m fine. It’s just a scratch. I’ll be fine.” The tone in her voice warned no argument, a kind of sturdiness to it which made her feel slightly comforted. “Pfft, of course she was. Oh, god, imagine what a heavy sleeper she’s going to be as a teenager!” Wanting to change the subject, and hopefully make him laugh, even if it was just for a second, she decided not to push about the Order and fighting back, at least not until the dust had settled. “...Maybe we shouldn’t talk about it now,” she mumbled, grudgingly. “I want to get Kira back to sleep, and soon.”

Edgar smiled down at her. “We’ll see soon,” he promised her, reaching up to tuck a few strands of her hair behind her ear and brush his nose against hers. He wanted this baby to be born, perhaps too much, but he was ready. He was scared out of his mind for what it would mean, terrified of the challenge that was before them of raising a child in a world like this right now, with war and death and fear… but Annie had changed the world for him, in her wild, unapologetic way of loving him, and he was determined to do the same for not only her, but for their daughter as well.
A satisfied little smirk curled up Edgar’s lips, and he nodded his head at her, brushing his chin against the top of her head a little bit teasingly so he could still focus on what he was doing. They stepped into the fireplace, Edgar stooping a bit, and with a flash of green fire, they were in St. Mungo’s. Edgar didn’t look in the least bit abashed or apologetic to be carrying Annie through St. Mungo’s, and he walked up happily to the receptionist. He opened his mouth to speak, but their healer was already there, and Annie was already nodding. He continued to carry Annie down the hall, and couldn’t help but snort quietly at her words. “I’m pretty sure you piss your pants,” he whispered back teasingly. “You’ll know. Don’t worry. Your water breaks, that’s the first thing. And then,” he added solemnly, though there was still a reassuring glint in his eyes. “Then we get to the fun part. Well, the second fun part. Making the baby is the fun part.”
Annie had her own little bet with herself as to which parent Kira would look more like - if she won, she got to gloat to Edgar every day for the rest of his life. And if she lost... well, she wouldn’t allow Edgar, or Kira, for that fact, when she was old enough to talk and understand her mother’s competitive side, for the rest of her life. In response, all she did was poke his scratchy cheek, trying her hardest not to show how frightened and unprepared she was in her expression. She had no idea how to tell him, without the risk of breaking them both down completely, going into full meltdown mode, with screaming and unplaced frustration, and letters to each member of her family detailing exactly how they had let her down... but instead, she was attempting to keep in all inside, only release how she felt in short, manageable doses. For both of them.
Of course, he had to start being all fun and immature when they arrived at St. Mungo’s, and they probably wouldn’t be leaving until their baby daughter was born, so why he thought this was the time to start making her roll her eyes, in the way he did when they first started going out, she had no idea. While she usually tried not to care about what people thought, this wasn’t the case here, though hopefully she could blame her impending pregnancy for all the blood flooding to her face, and why she felt like she was about to laugh, and cry, and explode into a thousand little pieces all in the same fleeting moment. “Thanks for that, I’ll add that to the list of embarrassing things that are upcoming in the next few moments,” she bit back, but with more humour in her voice than intended. “Edgar! Don’t mention that here, not when your unborn daughter can hear you!” It was a true uphill battle to stop herself from flicking his ears, and she was still scowling, scandalized, when he placed her in the hospital bed she would wait in until... well, until Kira was truly on her way. The Healers were patient, talking nice and slow, and though she had been thinking about this moment for over nine months, still she felt the least ready she could ever be. Taking Ed’s head and squeezing it hard, she tried her hardest to convince herself that this wasn’t going to be as bad as she feared.

shadow-prewett:
As she sat he exhaled, he would feel guilty later for the way he had yelled at her but for now he had to admit that relief had flooded him by the way such a way had succeeded in getting what they needed in that moment. Fabian looked to the Healer as she would continue to speak, the apprehensive man shifting towards her to finish his inspection for any wounds or other evidence of trauma. “II–I—” he sighed, frustration made worse by his own tongue, “I-It’s a bb–bad tt–time for ee–everyone,” he managed as the Healer finished quickly, checking a few boxes before signing off on her eligibility to leave.
He had no need to feel guilty - Annie was most definitely being pigheaded about this whole thing, and worse, she was too stubborn to admit it to anyone, even herself. Perhaps they aren’t all that different. Gideon probably wouldn’t have yelled, he would’ve made a joke that managed to both make her smirk and frown in the same moment, but then most likely come to her senses and sit down, in the same way she just had because of Fabian. Instead of biting the man’s head off, ( only figuratively, thankfully ), as she had before, he nervously carried on examining her arm. “I know. I know, I’m not - being difficult isn’t what I’m - it’s just all shitty right now, Fabian.” Sending the Healer a reluctant smile-slash-grimace, he nodded skittishly, and she hopped off the hospital bed, already feeling marginally better. “You want to... you know, go look for people?”

missxcharity:
Forcing another breath into her lungs she stood before the woman who, for all intensive purposes, she knew hated her. A woman she in many ways couldn’t bring to like herself—no, that was lie for Annie Bones was someone that Charity could not help but like. Admire. Be jealous of. Perhaps that was why she was always so awkward around the other woman, or perhaps that was simply only one of the many reasons that her mind in that moment failed to focus on. No—she was somewhere else all together, her mind competing for control over itself. “I—” she exhaled deeply, “Right now I’m helping you,” she said, trying to sound normal, “At least until they can see me—you should sit,” she would add motioning to the nearest chair.
Annie didn’t hate Charity - dislike, envy, and perhaps attempt to avoid her, yes, she did feel and do to Charity, but she didn’t hate her, no matter how brusque and gruff she acted in front of her. She had been trying to grow more patient lately, with Kira’s birth, and the general tense atmosphere that hung about in all of her conversations, but with Chartiy, it seemed almost impossible to try and give her a chance. She was so frustrating purely because she was so quiet, thoughtful, sad in a way that made Annie uncomfortable. There was no act in her inhibition. It was just who she was. “If you say so,” she murmured, not looking her in the eyes, which wasn’t like Annie at all. Heaving herself over to the chair, and throwing herself down into it, almost like a sulking child, she lifted up her arm slightly for Charity to inspect. “It’s just some stupid bloody glass that caught in my arm. Whipped around too fast, hit the window. I was just worried about the house, that’s all.”

{ Alain scratched his head, unsure how to reply to the woman and holding his hands up defensively. } Je suis désolé. I don’t work here, I just came to visit a friend. I didn’t mean to piss you off by asking if you needed anything, I’ll go fetch a healer for you to talk about letting you out if that’d help you?
Annie didn’t know Alain very well - the few times they had chatted at work, he didn’t seem to be the kind of person she had interest in spending time around. Still, that didn’t make it fair for her dumping everything on him like this. “I don’t speak French,” she simply responded, though she was apologetic in her tone. “Just give me a minute, to try and calm down. Tonight has just been such a... such a shit show, and no one seems to know what’s happening.”

lavinia-rowle:
“Everyone, pretty much cares. Let them patch you up and then you can go home.” Lavinia repeated her advice, rather calmly, because she knew if she were in the other woman’s shoes she would be doing the same. Howling at the healers until they let her leave. Lavinia didn’t know Annie well, but she knew her enough to care. Only a year ahead of her in school, Lavinia had a sense of companionship with most of her fellow lions. “Alright, I can provide a distraction. I’m okay. Startled, to say the least, but okay. No injuries and my house wasn’t touched…thankfully.”
Annie eyed Lavinia speculatively, looking for signs to see if the fellow Gryffindor truly believed what she was saying. With the forced sense of calm, and a lack of high volume, she honestly couldn’t tell. The feelings between the two of them were mutual, and she felt relieved to be in the company of someone who seemingly understood her pain... until she mentioned her house, and all Annie’s barriers came hurling back up. “Completely fine? Not a scratch?” She looked away from Lavinia for a second, biting her harsh words back. Not surprised. Typical. Don’t look so shocked. “...You must be relieved. I’m sure plenty of the others aren’t that lucky.”

Hey, baby. Both my babies are here, yeah? [ he smiles weakly and presses several kisses to annie’s face, holding onto her tightly ] They killed Tobias. The reporter. Those Death Eaters got caught, but some others went about setting fires to places with muggleborns living in them. The house isn’t so bad; we should be fine. I’ll put up more wards, but we’re okay. All of us, yeah? We’re all okay.
A blissful sigh, and a poke of Kira’s precious nose, and she clung to Ed like he was about ti run out of the room, and disappear any second. “I think you’re the baby in this relationship,” she mumbled, but there was only pure fondness in her voice. Despite the situation, she was content with just being with both her husband and her baby. “What? Tobias Greenhall? How is that possible?” Her eyes went wide and out of focus, and it was all she could do to keep from screaming. “I know, I saw the house - that’s how I got this,” she whined, showing him her mildly injured arm. “Was Kira alright when you found her?” Looking down at her daughter, who seemed to always to be staring intently at the world around her, you wouldn’t have known how drastic the situation was around her. “I’m - you know, after Kira is more settled, and we’ve figured things out, I need to get back into the Order, Ed. I need to do something about all this.”

Edgar gave a small nod of his head, a light smile curling up his lips. “A good mix of both,” he agreed, though he pressed a kiss to Annie’s nose. “But more you than me.” He nodded his head once again at her and his smile widened. “I think we can manage that, yeah,” he agreed. He could see the discomfort in her face, even as she tried to hide it. It’s why he picked her up; he didn’t like seeing her in pain, and he didn’t like making her walk when she was obviously uncomfortable.
“I know you are,” he told her patiently. “But I’d rather you were the better rested of the two of us, so let me be your obnoxious overbearing husband for just a moment, please.” He paused before they got to the fireplace, looking down at Annie and frowning. “Things will be okay,” he promised her softly. “It’ll be different and hard for a bit and yeah, it’ll be kinda’ scary. But I know that we can do it. We’ll come back here, the two of us, with our beautiful and healthy baby girl, and together we’ll figure it out. Like a family.” He kissed the top of her head. “We’ll be okay, Annie B, I promise.”
Her expression softened, some of the stress and tension leaving her body at his naturally gentle touch, and she could feel her heart... well, reacting to him in the way it always did when he found yet another way to surprise her, in the most familiar, warm way possible. “I just hope she has your nose, and your hair. And my chin. I - I guess we’ll see in a few hours,” she trailed off, her voice wobbling in the way it always did when she was scared. It was completely irrational, and she most likely wouldn’t tell him, but she was growing more and more terrified of what actual labour was going to be like - intensely painful, and messy, and what if something went wrong? With her, or the baby? Or both? What was she going to do? She was silent when Ed picked her up, but she rested her head under his neck, closing her eyes for a moment to try and steady herself.
“Well, when you put it like that, how can I say no?” A half-smile shaped itself on her chapped lips - she had a habit of biting her lips when she was nervous - and all she could do was swallow in response to his words. He was so genuine, and thoughtful, and kind, all of the time, it left her with an unmovable, eternal lump in her throat that made her constantly fall in love with him, all over again. Finally, they got into the fireplace, and with a “Diagon Alley,” and a flash of green flames, they found themselves right in the heart of St. Mungo’s, busy as always. An attractive, tall man carrying a heavily-pregnant, frowning woman was bound to draw some looks, and she felt her cheeks flush in embarrassment. By the time they got to the front desk, the receptionist had already summoned a Healer over, a man she had already seen a few days before, and he sent her what seemed to be an attempt at a comforting grin. “Mr and Mrs. Bones, it’s nice to see you again. I assume it’s time?” She nodded before Ed could respond, and the man simply nodded understandingly, leading them down the hall. “I still can’t tell if it’s really time,” she whispered up to Ed, tensing up once more. “How am I supposed to tell?”
