the deleted subway dream sequence provides some needed context for why five says they should rest for a while. a lot of the commentary about how it is out of character for five to give up looking has been valid- but it doesn't take into account the fact that he isn't alone. He's all ready experienced the madness of being stuck in an apocalypse for forty years- I'm sure if he was alone he'd just keep going till he brute forced the answer. but it would be harder to watch somebody else go through the same thing- and keep pushing them as they start to lose their mind.
Lila is a trained assassin, but she's always been reliant on her relationships with other people (while still being fairly selfish and free spirited). She had the handler, she had Diego, even when she ran to berlin, she immediately formed a connection and created a family. I don't know if she could handle the never ending hopelessness and isolation forever in the same way five was made to (also speaks to a reasoning behind a romantic connection forming).
Idk.. it makes sense that given time spent resting is meaningless because of time travel, five would suggest resting not for his own selfish desires but to prevent lila from going completely bananas so she can one day return to her family and continue to be a mum.. and not suffer like he did... things obviously got messier from there. I guess I'm just saying man, what an insane thing to edit out haha

you nearly got yourself killed. is that not enough?
@handlcd
--The shit she'd do for family -- for herself, especially for herself.
"Think of it this way, if you die then I cease to exist. If I don't exist, our kids don't exist."
Our. Those little ones belonged to both past and present. And while it took lots of itching, paranoia and flatulence to get to this point, she was just glad that they were able to make it.
"---Now anyone else from the commission still following you, or you think we got them all?" she asked before looking at her youngerself.
"And you can absolutely get pregnant while breastfeeding, so make sure you're prepared for that." she added as if that tidbit of advice could make a difference. When the time came for her, she'd know.

I really like Five and Lila, I'm glad they got their strange little time together. Like, when Lila suggests they go back to 2006, and they are both entering the subway and she's just chatty about, "Oh this is just Another Mission, no biggie!" She's the Only One that can understand what Five goes through with his power.
She's the only one that can understand what Any of them go through with their power; Because, that is her power. To know and understand theirs. I love that the laser eyes come out of Nowhere, too. She finally gets a power that is just solely hers and she has zero idea how to use it, but she's so sure that it's gonna be fine. She'll get it eventually, like she always does.
I'm also glad that like Klaus finally said it, that Lila is the Only self-actualized one of them. She spits truth all the time, and knows that being a support for others isn't a backseat. It's a fucking honor, that's fucking love. That's how she shows love. All of them struggle with wanting to be the star hero for one shining moment, but Lila is just like 'hey man, how's it goin?'
I just adore a manic pixie dream girl. Also there was just Something in the scene where Five tries to convince her to stay in the greenhouse. He's so calm and sure about it, while she is having a fucking breakdown. It's so hard for her to ignore him and do what she wants, because (just like when she stepped off the subway at the end) she knows he sees her heart and the truth of it all. I think that's why they fall for each other. They're both very Cut Through The Bulshit kind of people, and seven years of having that support isn't gonna end any other way.

Today was Lila's day; As in her day to bask in her lazy glory. Her parents wanted to spend time with te kids and she wasn't complaining at all. In fact she ushered them and even handed them extra money to stay out later than usual. Lunch, park, dinner, whatever it is that they wanted to do, she wanted them to have fun and relax. What she wanted was for the twins to return home tired out and ready for bed soon after. This would leave no room for fighting;
She wanted Grace tired out so she didn't sneak around in bed trying to read more books. And lastly, she wanted the house to remain tired so this way when Diego was home to complain, they wouldn't be around listening to him. She hated that with a passion the most so a part of her was also hoping Diego came home tired out. Maybe for once they could enjoy a night in. It was wishful thinking;
Lila had the remote propped on her thigh, a glass of wine in one hand as she twirled a strand of hair around her finger. Honestly she was growing bored out of her mind; She had half the mind of changing and going out and about the neighborhood. No point in relaxing when here mind was all over the place. The sudden commotion that came from her kitchen caught her off guard. The wine glass placed on the table now, Lila instantly ran into the kitchen just to see what the hell was happening.
Ahead she saw Five, some man, and her fridge door being used as a way to murder said man. "What the bloody hell are you doing?" blood stained, he should know that better than anyone else. When his gaze met hers, Lila was ready to go off on him just for bringing in his drama into her kitchen.
"What the hell, Five? Who the hell did you just murder in my kitchen and why the hell are you threatening me?"
But somethng was wrong. This wasn't the Five she knew. The powerless Five. How did he get into her kitchen? He wasn't HER Five.
"You're in the wrong bloody timeline."
It didn't take long for her to figure this one out and a part of her wanted to call HER Five to see what the hell was going on. But there was a man in her kitchen and he was dead. "You're helping me get rid of the body and you're telling me exactly when you're from." she demanded.
@lilapxtts / Plotted Starter.
As far as it all went, he kept his shit together. The diner was the place where he was five, just another variant in the grand scheme of fucked up timelines but when he left the subway, he blinked from place to place he was himself - it wasn't just the boy and the number, the savior complex beat into them, it was bigger, open. yet, it isn't nearly as simple as it feels, it came with a price, a name. people who wanted him DEAD, commission, and others alike - did it matter though? did it change how Brisket felt? not a chance because in all of the mess, there was freedom and that was something he had never truly been able to experience.
It was supposed to be an elementary task, get in, grab the box, and leave, in and out, just how he liked it but as soon as his slender fingers wrapped around the carved steal, all hell broke loose. It was an ambush, each corner of the museum surrounded, shock waves that cut his blinking in half, weapons that burned at the faintest graze. He managed to cut some down, slicing at ankles, throats, and faces. it was gruesome, a bloody display of the animalistic need for survival. Would he make it through? not with how many people turn corners, flashlights at his face, blinding him. when he blinks next, it was supposed to be to the subway, a getaway zone but instead, he hits hard into what feels like a coffee table, feels it collapsing below the weight of his body and the man who latched onto him last minute. " Fucking ass" He shouts when he feels the knife enter his shoulder but it doesn't slow him down, he kicks back, spins even if it makes a few pieces of shattered glass creep beneath his skin. when he grabs the man next it's by the ears, pulling on them hard, down, it makes the man scream, and scramble for leverage but Five is already blinking again, into the kitchen he caught a quick glance of. Fridge, yeah, fridge. He gets him, head locked into the door of the fridge and starts to slam it, one after the other. one after the other till white is replaced with red. He turns aggressively, hand quick to reach for a wine bottle he saw out of the corner of his eye - one quick toss and he falters, staring at the woman in PJS... shit, where did he blink to? " Stay back or i swear i'll fucking kill you."

Her pants were all wet, that was for sure and while the excitement of seeing the familiar face settled, Lila also needed to get up. She found herself slowly getting up- slowly just so she wouldn't fall again, and carefully walked over to the Hargreeves that was flat on his butt all thanks to her.
An arm was extended towards him, but his question caused her brows to furrow in confusion. "How much have you had to drink, seems like we're either too happy or too out of it. Then again you were much cheerful when drunk." she reminisced the times he had been eagerly happy during Sloane and Luther's wedding. Those were the fun times - maybe. Well no, the world was ending so not really.
"You're oddly suffering through some sort of amnesia, aren't you?" she asked while helping him up. "Should we take you to the doctor? You smokin' something Ben? Should I be concerned?" and her first question was whether he had been in contact with Klaus. However that also seemed impossible because Klaus was three years sober, so why would he lead his own brother to ashtray?
"Oh now i'm really concerned. We should get you to the doctor."
If he had to ask who Diego was, then there was something clearly wrong. However, she had a whole cart full of groceries and a party to get ready for. She turned to him for a moment and held up a finger. "We'll take you to the doctor soon, but first I need you to follow me and hold the cake." forget the cart, she'd use the extra set of arms instead now.
"Follow me." she reached for his hand -- a habit she picked up because she'd be reaching for Grace's or the twins' constantly. As she approached her cart full of groceries, she let go of his hand in that moment. "You stay here, I'll go grab the cake and then we leave. I'll let Diego know you're coming and I think Klaus will be ecstatic to see you but, continue being this friendly. Don't be broody alright?"
It was odd really, whatever was happenign with Ben. However, Lila was just grateful for the extra set of hands. While she expected him to stay by the cart she headed to the bakery department to grab her cake that had been ready. As she returned, she handed him the cake to take a hold of.
"Follow me, don't lose your way and if you be nice, i'll let you have the bigger corner of a cake slice." it was a better bribe than anythign because kids loved that. All boys were mentally like children.
If any other ordinary citizen who shouldn't be in this timeline was here, one would have asked why they were here. On the other hand, this was Ben Hargreeves. His first question he asked to himself was in the "Where" category. Where was he? Where did he come from? But most importantly, where was his family? Were they even here in this timeline?
When it sank in, he was excited and happy to be back. No, those words didn't suffice on how he felt. He didn't know what his family did this time, but this meant he could see them again. For days, he embraced what he took for granted. He enjoyed spending time at the park, tasting free food samples, holding conversations with strangers, and even helping someone cross the street. For a few days, he was living the definition of cloud nine.
However, it didn't take long to experience how the real world worked again. The first big change was the fact he no longer possessed his powers. The first instance was when he landed himself a gig for volunteer work in exchange for food. He subconsciously tried to reach for something with one of his other-worldly tentacles. But as one of his fellow volunteers asked what he was doing, Ben snapped out of it. Needless to say, he was shocked- and he didn't know if losing his powers was for the better or worse. At this point, he needed to see his family more than ever. Any of them (excluding his adoptive father. That would be a leap too early even for him to take) would keep him grounded in this surreal, yet normal world.
With the little money he made, he opted to buy himself a small treat. But with so many to choose from, he didn't know which he would leave him the most satisfied. Ugh. Why am I thinking that I want a peanut butter and marshmallow sandwich now of all times? He knew that that snack was a certain sibling's favorite. Maybe he just thought about it because he missed him, like how he missed everyone else. He then let out a sigh, his hoodie over his head effectively making him look broody and glum.
Without warning, he found himself falling onto the floor. He sensed someone hold onto him, and his first instinct was to be combat-ready. It seemed that even in this timeline, all those formative years of training were ingrained into him. But then, he swore she called him by his name. Someone knew him? From this timeline? Again, his head immediately had so many questions- but again, he was excited and happy. Someone found him. He found someone.
Once he calmed down, he let out a shaky breath. His eyes were bright, honest, and pleading. "I'm sorry to ask this from out of nowhere, but... you know me?" He didn't know whether he was elated or nervous that he could hardly keep his thoughts in parallel with his words. "A-And Diego. You... You mentioned his name just now. That's my brother, right?"
#Ben.#Lila x Ben.#ervaurem#/i am so sorry for the delay in response#oh this is going to be so much fun#hello BEN WE MISSED YOU

She'd started off wanting to kill the entire Hargreeves family -- reasonably so, no thanks to the Handler, so when his genuine response came, a part of her felt a heavy burden being lifted off. She wasn't sure what to expect, or how anyone would feel. They were all mentally messed up, and she was no better. Would it be normal to raise a child during all of their chaos?
His words made her laugh but they were true and Lila knew it. Klaus always meant well, this much she could tell. He was always overlooked by the others and it hurt her. So here she was taking in everyword he said because she believed it. "Thanks, Kitten. I'm naming you their God parent simply because if I die, you'll always be there." He was immortal after all and she trusted him. It was hard to explain this feeling, but she truly trusted him. He would be great around children and this much was true.
"Continue practicing and you'll sound British yourself." she teased, however his words sat with her and they would stay. Nothing in this world was going to take away the feeling that Klaus was able to make her feel -- which was proud. Excited. Ready.
As the waitress came to them, Lila didn't bother with coffee. She started off with a double cheeseburger, side of fries and a strawberry milkshake. Then looked at Klaus, nearly blushing at the order. "Cravings." she added
"Well to answer your qestion, Diego does know. I had to tell him before the world ended. So he knows. I guess we're trying to figure out what happens next, you know? Family, home life, jobs, all that fun parental stuff." she tapped her fingers lightly on top of the table.
"Do you think i'll have a girl first or a boy?" she asked. "I mean if it's a girl, and she's anything like me, bloody hell am I in for a treat right?"
Though unable to keep the smile off his face, a flicker of confusion and concern faltered it for a moment. Wanting her to see the true earnestness in his eyes, Klaus flipped his sunglasses up to rest in his curls.
"They're gonna be so excited," he promised, taking her hand if she let him. With a level of emotional maturity Ben would've been proud of, he continued. "It's going to be more than okay, babe! If anyone here is ready to be a dad, it's Diego. He's...you know, kinda dumb sometimes, but aren't we all? Now that I think about it, he's probably the only one who's been to therapy, unless you count court-mandated..." Trailing off, Klaus shook his head. "Anyway, my point is...if you're afraid of repeating the cycle, you're already leagues above where it started. You're gonna be a great mom. Or--wait sorry, 'mum," he corrected himself, imitating her fancy British accent with a grin. Then he patted her hand.
"Come on, we can talk over lunch!"
But of course, Klaus was forever a chatterbox, and barely made it out of the car before he was doing just that. "I hope that was a good speech, because I had to align all of my chakras to get that out--How long have you known, anyway? Wait--" He gasped dramatically, putting a hand over his mouth. In a loudly hushed voice, he asked, "Does Diego know? Oh I hope so, you know he'd see right through me..."
Holding the door open for her, Klaus was soon following her into the restaurant. A table for two; he ordered a coffee, which he promptly added to from his hip flask. Then it was back to business.
"Okay, tell me everything. Or, you know, whatever you want to tell me," he added upon second thought.
