APOLOGIZING ISN’T SOMETHING he does, not much, if at all.  &  after all he has such a DEEP connection with this tree guy. he may not realize it on a conscious level, or even if he does he PREFERS not to talk about it internally OR externally, Peter finds SOLACE in his existence, in the way he contrasts from the rest with his cute smiles  &  a heart that he deems PURER than anyone on the team. if it was anyone else, he wouldn’t say a D’AST word  &  forget about it.

he may be an asshole, but he has a HEART. it doesn’t matter if he hides it so much  &  becomes FORGETFUL of its existence.  &  he’s DEAD sure that that straight expression on his face was CAUSED by him. he cannot even sit properly like this  &  so for ONCE in his life, he spills the truth              of course after making sure they were COMPLETELY alone. 

❝ i’m… SORRY that i called you a stupid log. ❞

                  groot looks up at the sound of peter’s voice, a questioning tone in his grunt. he’s been growing, growing, growing -––- yes. there is a wonder about the way his body works, especially amongst these other creatures. still a meter or so off from his usual height, the branches within him have been growing and providing himself the body he is used to. it is something he is grateful for, but tenfold with the current group he travels with. these guardians of the galaxy could use his help again, and it was a bright day for groot when he was able to get out of that pot.

                  he is taken aback by the words from peter at first. surely he isn’t one to take an apology from lightly if it ever came around. even so, groot lets forth a woody laughter, quickly making sure to nod so that his friend knows he is not in any way laughing at him. they were different creatures then, in the beginning of that journey. hostility was traded back and forth. and boy, if peter quill could truly understand groot’s untranslated words back then -––– !

                  ❛     i am groot, i am groot.      ❜

                  a hand waves off his friend at the words. the apology is nice but not needed. in return, groot reaches for a branch he’s sprouted from his head and picks the fruit from it, handing it towards peter in an understanding like a truce.

                  there is something beyond terran within this terran. she may be small, yes, but she is strong. she may be tired now, but she holds a stubbornness that he admires. the branches upon her own body struggle forward, and there is an attitude, but he does not take it personally. ( perhaps, a lesson he learned in his friendship with rocket. ) instead, something almost like a laugh comes from him because of her refusal and he stands upright, taking a step to walk with her. he’s taken a liking to her already he’s decided, and won’t just leave because of such an encounter.

THREE people. snooze an’ lose, groot! should teach ya’ to keep on nappin.   ❜   he folds arms tight; the gesture, while one of peace, seems only patronising. it lights fire beneath the pot of his anger, boiling over with the irritation of the night. one never likes a hard GRAB of one’s goddamn tail, like an animal. he doesn’t sink teeth into their bloody arms, so why the hell ain’t they playing fair?

                  a scoff comes from groot at the sudden understanding -–– he is not part of the job. perhaps that is how it works, or perhaps rocket is that upset with his friend for his sleeping habits. groot knows not, but he doesn’t like it all the same. a frown, dare he allow himself to feel betrayed ? he was sleeping, yes, and that is upon him, but now rocket is off for a job without him ? terrible, terrible ! it’s able to make him feel the guilt he knows that rocket was looking for, and he holds his head in his hands for a second. when he speaks, groot’s voice is dreary as he looks up again at his friend, accepting the current fate.

                     the CRUNCH is no pleasant noise to his ears; it’s grating reminder of what he’ll call laziness, while the rest of them slog it out. he’s had a list of moments, through the night. a stolen knife. he’d stolen it back. he’d also stolen a little blaster, and all without help. and so he draws himself to his full height, perched atop a box, and folds his arms. 

❛   ––––– yeah, guess what? you missed an’ emergency job. five HUNDRED units for the first three t’ volunteer, an’ we’re on our way now. how about that?   ❜

                  rocket is aware of the idea of beauty sleep. hell, he’s the one that explained the phrase to groot in the first place. it’s not his fault that his friend’s nocturnal habits gets him into situations that groot isn’t around for. but he notices the anger on rocket, and the extra height of the box, so groot sits across from him on another box to even the height a bit better.

                  groot may not officially be a part of the avengers or even a legal resident of the earth, but he does from time to time keep up with the news. and he also knows how the man in front of him can’t seem to keep out of the spotlight. he has a feeling that this tony stark is going to ask for a favor from the flora colossus, and so groot folds his branched arms and shakes his head before he even hears any words from the other.

         the things with humans is that they are at the same time oblivious and not ;   they are attracted to the most peculiar and unusual things like moths to a flame and when they’re close enough they latch on hard enough to hurt.  point is, not themselves.  it’s the reason why the planet is in more pain than ever ;  the human race is dull and fascinating and all in all, to pamela, frustrating  – which is why she so often gets the urge to uproot their entire species and why, right then, she is locked away from the outside world and its concrete jungles.   

ivy senses him before she sees him, the plants right next to the entryway pass on the message til it gets to her and she just has to turn her head to meet his gaze ;  there’s a small tilt to her head as she faces him, eyebrows furrowed in curiosity, and nods out of instinct.

         ❛  i take it that doesn’t happen often.  ❜

                  the greenhouse practically greets him where he stands, a feeling he has not felt since the last time he was upon his homeworld. it makes him long for it and homesick ; something that doesn’t hit often. there was some good within all the bad that happened that made him leave ( be exiled ). he waits where he stands, waiting for some kind of answer from the other that confirms his suspicions. someone that feels this green and yet beyond earthly must understand him.

                  and she does. her nod tells her so and he takes a step forward when she speaks out of excitement at such a thing. he enjoys his time with the team, with rocket and what they do, but this -––– this is home. something he doesn’t realize he has been lonely for in so long.

                  the monarch doesn’t always come to these lands, but she is a welcomed sight when she does. there is a smile on groot’s face as he nods, and bends lower to her level. a nod of respect is given to her.

                  maz kanata told groot as he came into her cantina that she had a crew with a job that needed a bit of extra muscle. she also said that they talk enough that it’d be a welcomed addition to have groot’s language barriers between them. a split of the profits from the job, and then groot will be taken back to takodana to go back into the forests -–– or on another job.

                  the terran in front of groot is small, and seems weary. it must be tiring, how many steps it takes with those short legs to get anywhere. so groot lowers himself near her, and nods back in the idea of her hopping on for some help.
