i finished watching the uglies adaptation and it was mid...... except casting for shay was so good and i appreciate the racial diversity in casting. Idk I feel like adaptations should only exist if they have a vision for interpreting the source material but i am so so biased bc i wanted a sapphic interpretation of tally and shay
#im gonna get booed off the internet bc my favorite wlw interpreted relationships are written by men#scott westerfeld just understands women they all feel real and genuine which is no small feat in a book about getting plastic surgery#an inferior writer would've made it pointless fluff... but he's so cool#he has things to say and that's what makes the book interesting#tally and shay are not a HEALTHY relationship but i think shay being driven to the brink by her hurt over tally choosing guys over her#is given more depth when it's because she loved tally specifically sapphic pain of a man being chosen over u#actually though writing it out.... idk female friendship being the focus is cool too. maybe i'm pushing the romance agenda#when i say shay is in love with tally though you must understand#i do not mean she is attracted to tally and wants to kiss her i mean she wants to be the priority in tally's life and build a life 2gether#and looks out for her and prioritizes tally...... this is very vague ok i should shut up#SOMETHING'S GOING ON BETWEEN THEM IDK HOW TO SAY IT. maybe they do want to kiss#sometimes i get passionate over a ship and then i step back and go oh well I am grey romantic so maybe i should shut up about romance#uglies#tally youngblood

also being on tumblr again is sooo scary bc. Ok I was a media studies major and social media posts are used as a source for things like analyzing fan responses and fan behavior and different internet subcultures and SO MUCH. And I have done research for papers where i just /went to tumblr/ and was like "yeah this person is being acephobic about reyna from percy jackson let me just screenshot this so I can cite it as a source in my paper about ace exclusion from LGBTQ spaces". This site unlike instagram is text based, and unlike twitter it utilizes tags really well so it's incredibly searchable and so it is the place to go for when you want to study fan culture. So you all better watch yourselves! U are all little subjects in a petri dish! Big brother is real and he is some student writing their thesis about homoeroticism in mens sports. He is formatting your tumblr post about that gay volleyball anime into an MLA citation .
#media studies can be a respectable degree but i just used mine to give myself an excuse to analyze queer coding.#i read academic papers that quoted the most awful fanfiction#i had to discuss “slash shipping” with my 70 year old professor#so basically i got a degree in tumblr#and now i work tech job. sigh#i kind of miss my gay classes. ngl.#i was soooo good at it. I got an A in my queer media class! i am a certified queer person!

ok validation from posting fanart was fun but i remembered i kind of made this originally as a place to get into autobiographical comics and silly personal thoughts without the fear of people i know finding them soooo do not count on more fanart. Only oversharing from now on. Unless i need an ego boost and then i will draw whatever skinny boy is making the rounds that week

I don't know much about bands and different music scenes in general but I would like to, so I am often drawn to people who know about it and like to talk about it. Unfortunately so far these people tend to be guys that do not respect me and do not stay my friend long term! But jokes on them, bc every guy I meet i absorb their music knowledge so that I can use it to earn the respect of other more knowledgeable music guys with more niche facts, and I then learn THEIR music knowledge and I will continue up the rankings like this until I successfully befriend the last living member of the Beatles (i haven't learned his name yet I need to befriend a couple more music guys to unlock this) and I will impress him so thoroughly with my encyclopedic knowledge of every band ever that he will crown me the official music expert and I will finally be free

no that's so valid thank you for bringing up this thought experiment. I went down a rabbit hole and it turns out you can find airing schedules of what was on Disney Channel on different days during different years (here's what was on disney channel around the day Richard from iwwv died <3) and with Disney's preference for reusing their actors across multiple projects, I think it's safe to use these shows as a launching point for actors. I would probably steal stars from Spellbinder, Flash Forward, Ready or Not (the disney channel show not the horror movie), and Ocean Girl. I was going to create an actual alternate universe cast list, but i got really bored so that's not happening sorry :( Maybe the entire cast of HSM was born 10 years earlier for convenience.

I will never make this because it would be for an audience of one (me) but ever since reading "If we Were Villains" (story about serious drama kids in college who perform shakespeare and deal with a murder) I have been entertaining the thought of a crack fic crossover with High School Musical The Musical The Series where the staff decides they will no longer put on shakespeare after the tragic accident that happened at Thanksgiving, because Shakespeare plays would only increase the tension and drama. So they hire Ms. Jen who decides their spring play will actually be High School Musical (which exists in the 90s in this universe) and it ruins the vibe so much that everyone gives up on being dark and mysterious because they're universally pissed at Ms Jen for making them learn choreoraphed basketball dancing.
#if we were villains is actually genuinely good and has actual literary worth and pulls from shakespeare in an intelligent meaningful way#but unfortunately all i can do is comedy so this is the only fan content i have to offer :(#THE THING IS iwwv is just hsmtmts if it hsmtmts was good and also they committed crimes#they utilize the same parallel of casting choices with real life drama which I love#umm so casting: Meredith would be Sharpay Obvi. I think it would be really funny if James was cast as Ryan bc they hate eachother and would#have to pretend to be siblings working together. And I think ashley tisdale and Lucas Gabreel actually didn't get along when filming#also i love the thought of Ms Jen looking at James and going “i know what you are”#HOWEVER it would be more interesting if james was Chad to Oliver's Troy (which is really just reversing their Romeo and Juliet moment)#bc chad is like nooo don't do theater... stick with me and do basketball... but it would be Coded Subtextually#Unfortunately Wren would be typecast as Gabriella and I don't think that would cause drama bc I don't believe James actually liked her!#I think it was comp het bc she was very sweet and nonthreatening as opposed to Meredith's big flirting energy so she would be a “safe” crus#lets lean into that actually. this gives Wren a chance to have a personality (bc I enjoy this book but it is not good at fleshing out women#So oliver and Wren spend more time together and kind of talk about James a little and Wren is like yeah James is very sweet#and I like him but it feels so hard to get him to feel comfortable with me... i guess he's just closed off and doesn't talk much#we also get to see more of her personality and interests maybe she's like I relate to gabriella because I also like to Read :) feminism#and oliver is like Hmm That Is Not My Experience With Him perhaps our bond is deeper and James does like me Hm#And then Meredith can flirt with him as Sharpay and James gets pissed and in character gets very intense about how Troy can't join THEATER#that's why he's upset and sad bc sharpay represents theater and only that reason and nothing else and he isn't in love with oliver At All#Alexander can be Ryan now since James is Chad (and he's also Gay) and Filippa can be Kenzie bc they're both queer coded#Anyway at rehearsal one day Meredith and James and Oliver are having their fighting over troy moment and then Meredith stops and is like#wait guys. This musical is so freaking stupid. why are we even doing this#and their mutual frustration at their art being turned into a farce is enough to bond them together and they're like#we need to focus on our REAL enemy: ms Jen#and then they hatch a scheme and it's probably like. They dump a bucket of fake blood on her at opening night a la carrie#and then put on their own rebellious production... it still has to be a musical because i like musicals#families with children are in the audience and they're like OK FOLKS! So at my job we have like a job yellow pages website where it lists people by name and their email and what knowledge areas they have, to help find relevant people when solving an issue. And we also have employee resource groups for like women in the workplace and disabled employees and LGBTQ+ employees, and when you join one you get listed as a member on your profile and added to a big list.
And what this MEANS is that if you join the LGBTQ+ group, anyone who looks you up to find your email will see a big ol button that labels you as being gay gay homosexual gay. And they can then click on the button and scroll through pages of EVERY openly queer person at the company in alphabetical order, and I DON'T know how to FEEL about that
#the plus side: i get to snoop on my coworkers. Somebody else I work with is aromantic too and I'm like oh snap... my brother in arms...#the downside: I don't know how 2 feel about openly labeling myself in front of my boss IDK!!! Is it unprofessional.
