My Wedding Makeup!
I got married over memorial day weekend! We had a relatively small wedding on a farm and tried to keep it as simple and cost-effective as possible while still having what we wanted and making it look pretty.
I decided to do my makeup myself (Lord knows I have enough of it, and I also didn’t super trust someone else to do exactly what I wanted), but get my hair done, and I’m very glad on both accounts. Do I wish I’d had a little more time (and a better space than the farm’s bathroom) to do my makeup? Yes. Do I wish I had looked at myself even once after initial application, re-applied lipstick and done touch ups? Also Yes. But overall I think things went really well.
A week before the wedding I had a facial, which I think was key to maintaining clear and makeup-ready skin. I had a pretty major zit on my chin from HORMONES and the facialist zapped it with a violet wand and made sure all traces of it were gone by the wedding. I also tried to use my miracle product (Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil as well as the extra strength version they just released) every night for a month beforehand and do a few extra masks.
What I wore:
-Smashbox Primerizer (I actually forgot to pack another primer with me, but had 0 issues with fading or transferring so it worked!) - Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation* - Tarte ShapeTape Concealer - Laura Mercier translucent setting powder, ‘baked’ with a beauty blender - MAC Brow Set tinted eyebrow gel - Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam eyeshadow palette - Fenty Beauty liquid eyeliner pen - MAC eyeliner in Teddy - Maybelline Great Lash in dark brown on curled lashes - Charlotte Tilbury flawless finish powder (to wipe away bake and set things) - Hourglass Ambient Lighting bronzer in luminous bronzed light - MAC blush in peaches (I might have also used NARS blush in luminoso which is a light apricot shade, but I can’t honestly remember) - Becca highlight in Champagne Pop - Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray - MAC soar lip liner - Charlotte Tilbury matte revolution lipstick in Walk of Shame
* I went to Sephora during their VIB sale in April and took a look at all of their new foundation releases. I tested this one on my hand and immediately fell in love, but I had one of the people working there shade match me so I knew exactly. She let me know that she’d used the exact Lancome foundation on loads of brides and they always looked great.
The general look I went for was flawless matte skin, a warm glittery eye with a wing, and lipstick that didnt look too severe but my made my lips look larger and more defined.

FabFitFun
Hi everyone!
I haven’t posted in a million years and I miss it here! Some posts I’ll be putting out shortly: - my wedding makeup! (I did it myself, so you’ll get a breakdown of products and techniques and how it went- spoiler alert, really well) - my updated work 4 min makeup routine - A review of all the BB/CC creams and tinted moisturizers I’ve ever tried
But in the meantime, I wanted to do a review of the FabFitFun summer box and my thoughts on the box in general.
FabFitFun Overview
Fabfitfun is a subscription box that offers seasonal boxes of full-size products ranging from hair/skin/makeup/body to lifestyle, fitness and even clothing items. The boxes are individually $49.99, though I believe it’s cheaper if you get an annual subscription to all four boxes. There are always introductory offers, and I was able to grab my first box for half off, plus shipping- so I paid around $30.
There are usually 3-4 items you can ‘customize’- aka once you create an account and log in online, you can choose between a selection of products for some of the items in your box. Other items are standard and everyone gets them. This is my favorite feature of the box- no other subscription box I can think of lets you make choices like that for free. If you really like two of the items from one customization, you can always pay to add one of them as an extra.
Summer Box: customization choices and my picks
I was pretty late in signing up for the summer box, so some of my choices for customizations were sold out. If you subscribe, make sure you get in early in the season and check your email for exact dates of when you can start customizing. The fall box just opened that option today.
Group 1: The only choices left open to me in this category were a towel shaped like a lotus leaf (no thanks) and a ‘one size’ kimono($60), which I went with. Being plus sized, the kimono does not close around my waist, even though it says fits up to a size 16. I could wear it open as a cardigan, but it’s not my style. The sold out options were a marble travel size blow dryer and the Sol De Janeiro bum bum cream and shower gel. I would have greatly enjoyed either of those, and was happy to see the bum bum cream which is an expensive Sephora product and also very good.
Group 2: A set of 5 rose gold brightening sheet masks, a beach tote, a letter board and a set of 3 nesting West Elm bowl in navy and white patterns. I think the most popular choice was the sheet masks, as they apparently retail for $160 (what! that’s not even SKII prices!), but I went with the West Elm bowls ($39). They’re perfect sized for entertaining and the blue and white is fresh and classic at the same time.
Group 3: A dainty gold star necklace, a set of 3 resistance bands for working out, two baby pink silicon stemless wine glasses. I love the look and idea of the wine glasses ($25) and they’ll be perfect for the beach or pool this summer.
Select groups: If you pay slightly more you can choose out of two more sets, otherwise fff chooses for you based on the questionnaire you filled out. I was given the item I would have chosen anyway, an Eyeko eyeliner pen ($22) for the first. I’ve been wanting to try this brand but it’s hard to find and I’m always down for a new eyeliner pen. For the second I was given a refining micro polish face scrub ($57) from Intelligent Nutrients, a brand I’ve never heard of. I will definitely use this but the item I would have chosen from this group is the Coola setting spray in SPF 30. I’ve tried this before in sample sizes and really liked it.
The other items are in every summer box:
- A set of 6 no-line no-tangle hair elastics from Invisibobble ($16) -Coconut foot exfoliant mask from Whish ($32) - Generation Clay purple brightening clay mask with Davidson plums ($39) - Rose facial spray from Grace & Stella ($25)
So the total of my box’s products comes to $315, but let’s break it down by things I loved and/or would buy myself, and things that were only so-so.
YES
- West Elm bowls - silicon wine glasses - Eyeko eyeliner - invisibobble hair elastics - clay mask NO
- kimono -foot mask (this might be great but I wouldn’t buy myself a foot mask and also Whish is a weird brand) - rose facial spray (I love a good face spray but this one’s spritzer was aggressive and I prefer the Mario Badescu or Glossier versions) I haven’t tried the micro polish face item yet, but I also probably wouldn’t spend $57 on it, so it’s in the middle category.
So, $141 worth of items I really liked, for $30. All in all, I’m very happy with that. I appreciate that FFF uses brands I’ve heard of, full-sized products, and lets you customize around half the box. I will definitely continue and review the fall box for you!

Updated Skincare Routine
I’ve gone into detail on my routines in the past but here’s a quick and dirty rundown of what I’ve been using lately. For reference I have oily skin and my biggest skin concerns are enlarged pores and occasional hormonal breakouts.
Morning
In the mornings I do almost nothing to my skin- I splash it with cold water and then 90% of days I apply the Smashbox Primerizer, which is a combination moisturizer and primer that hydrates and preps my skin.
Evening
To remove makeup, I use Micellar water on cotton rounds- my favorite is from the Bioderma brand, which isn’t easily available in the US (I order on Amazon), so my backup is the Garnier version. If I need further cleansing, I’ll use Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser, which is gentle and leaves my skin feeling soft. Then I apply Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil, which I’ve tried not using and my skin suffered big time. Luckily they now sell it in a smaller size for half the price.
Masks
When I have a breakout: I reach for Sunday Riley’s Saturn Sulfer Mask, which is a foamy green mask that dries out zits, tightens pores and helps prevent further breakouts. This or her UFO clarifying oil REALLY work on my hormonal acne unlike any other products.
When my skin feels dehydrated or dry: I love the Watermelon sleeping night mask from Glow Recipe, as well as their new jelly sheet mask version.
When my skin feels dull or congested: I use Drunk Elephant’s TLC Sukari Babyfacial. It’s a chemical exfoliant that goes on clear and really sloughs off dead skin, but isn’t stripping or drying. Definitely my favorite Drunk Elephant product.

Hiii it’s me out of the blue here talking about some of my favorite beauty and non beauty items of the past couple months:
beauty
Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer : ya’ll need this immediately, no matter what skin type you have. It’s a combo moisturizer and primer which hydrates and creates a smooth base for your makeup but also has a slightly tacky finish that keeps makeup on for everrrr without making you look cakey or matte.
NARS Narsiccist Wanted Eyeshadow palette: This is absolutely the best eyeshadow palette I’ve ever bought because 1) size: it’s perfect for travel 2) shade range: it has awesome blending shades and warm tones as well as pops of color and a deep brown liner shade 3) quality: the mattes, shimmers and glitter toppers are all equally buttery and pigmented 4) lasting power and 5) Ability to create the perfect look for literally any situation in one spot
MAC Costa Riche eyeliner: The deeper, warmer cousin to MAC’s Teddy, makes my eyes look nuts blue
Glossier Stretch concealer: As the last person to try this, let me say that it’s super creamy and moisturizing while still providing coverage and not sliding off my face: so, a perfect warm-weather switch from my usual heavy matte concealers.
Drunk Elephant Acid Trip set: A night serum, oil, day serum and mask in one! It’s pricey but has nearly full sized products and following this routine is changing my skin. The day serum has a weird smell- be warned!
TV
Westworld s2: I’ve been waiting so long for this and it’s definitely paying off. There’s not as much nuance and beauty as the first season (like watching Thandie Newton walk around a glass building for the entirety of a haunting string version of Radiohead’s Motion Picture Soundtrack), but there is much mystery and Tessa Thompson.
The Looming Tower: I didn’t realize how much we needed a TV series about the lead up to 9/11 and the mishandling of intelligence, but we did! There are some truly heartbreaking episodes and some others that make you say “holy shit, is that true??” and it is.
Riverdale s2: This season is straight bonkers, but I am here for all the queer relationships #CHONI and fan theories about who the Black Hood is.
Movies
Bachelorette: Ok, this movie is not new- in fact it is from 2012. I watched it randomly the other day (it’s on Netflix) and it’s one of the few movies I’ve ever seen where I immediately watched it again, and would continue to watch it over and over. It’s like a dark step-sister to Bridesmaids mixed with the Hangover, but actually the comedic parts are not why I enjoyed it: it’s the depiction of female friends who are not perfect, who should “know better” than to sleep with random guys and do coke and black out all the time, who are confident and smart and beautiful but broken and allowed to fuck up - something we rarely get to see.
8th Grade: Oh My God. I don’t know when or where or how this movie will be released to the public but you need to immediately see it when it is. I have never cringed, cried and laughed all at the same time before- somehow this 8th grade girl (who makes youtube videos and has snapchat and vines and probably has never heard of Full House) is the most relatable person on earth.
Disobedience: I love Rachel Weiss and Rachel McAdams and I loved seeing them portray a beautiful forbidden love. Why aren’t there more mainstream lesbian films?
Blockers: Speaking of female remakes of comedies, this is sort of a female Superbad- except that I found the adults to be the funniest part. But again, I was overjoyed to see a movie where teen girls were allowed to be gross and talk about sex without being shamed as whores.
etc
kombucha: lol I’m not joking. I like the ginger Synergy ones but Aqua ViTea has awesome flavors like peachmint, blood orange and blueberry. They make my tummy feel good and it’s like drinking soda without drinking soda.
this dress or this style of dress, which I think is flattering on every body type and says like, tropical vacation but also the grocery store if necessary. I wear it with my bra straps showing and idgaf
this jumpsuit: speaking of tropical vacay or grocery, this jumpsuit is everything for these in-between temperatures when I still want to look and feel breezy but I don’t want to be in shorts (I wear a light zip up hoodie, cardigan or denim jacket with mine). ON is killing the jumpsuit romper game this season!
Sweetgreen: I know everyone has a Sweetgreen by them, but I am truly obsessed. I really like the seasonal Nancy’s Chopped Salad thing they have now which adds salami and pickled celery to the menu along with a traditional Italian vinaigrette- all of which SG has been LACKING. My other go-to is spring mix, chicken, avocado, tomatoes, corn, spicy broccoli, lime, and the jalapeno-lime vinigrette. The best part to me is that they don’t charge for extra dressing or basically a whole lime. YES.

The Best Overnight Treatment/ Mask
We all know I’ve been an avid lover of Sunday Riley’s exorbitantly priced Luna Sleeping Night Oil, but it’s time for a new queen to rise. Luna is still amazing and the best way I’ve found to give my skin retinol, but I recently got my hands on a deluxe sample of a new favorite- and after a few weeks of use, I am HOOKED.
Let me introduce Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Sleeping Mask
Little is known about this Korean brand, and they only have 3 or 4 products. This sleeping mask blew up the internet hard early this year, and I was honestly hesitant to try it. “Glow” anything is usually for dry skin or people who want to look dewy. Meanwhile I have large pores, oily skin that always looks TOO dewy, and acne.
Then I actually tried using it and within a few nights, I fell in love. It smells like a jolly rancher but feels like a cooling gel when applied to the face (I use it at night after cleansing and sometimes toning, as a mask but also as an overnight moisturizer). In the morning, I woke up with baby-soft, supple skin and visibly reduced pore size- plus after repeat use I’m pretty sure it is getting rid of my breakouts.
The product has small amounts of AHA acid in it for exfoliating, but it doesn’t feel harsh or dehydrating. Be careful not to rub it in completely (after all it’s a mask and not a moisturizer) or it can start to pill a bit, but that’s the only possible complication I’ve noticed.
At $45/ a jar it’s certainly not cheap, but it’s also half the price of Luna and if my repeat use of the tiny sample I got is evidence, a full-size jar will last you FOREVER. Sephora also offers a smaller size version for around $20- which I would absolutely recommend trying for yourself.
This is one of those rare products that I think would work on any skin type and truly makes a noticeable difference.

2017 Favorites
We’ve come to the end of 2017 and I’m not sure how to feel about it. Some highlights of my year: attending the women’s march with my mom, reuniting with my female friends e-mail thread in DC, going to Italy for a week with my boyfriend in November, watching the eclipse on the beach on my birthday, meeting my baby niece, attending Boston Calling with my friends visiting from NOLA, going on a WHALE WATCH, visiting my brother’s family in NYC and exploring central park, and watching Doug Jones win.
Here are some of the beauty and non-beauty things I loved in 2017.
Skincare
- Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask. I know I’ve mentioned this many times, but it is without a doubt the best skincare item in the world. In the shower after shampooing, I’ll apply a layer of this to my face, rubbing it in slightly, and then let it sit while I condition, wash my body, shave, etc. Then I move my fingers in a circular motion on my face, physically exfoliating using the texture as well as the chemical exfoliants in the mask, and rinse it off. It needs only to sit for 3-5 minutes, but completely renews the skin. It gets rid of congestion, blackheads, dry/flaky skin, and leaves me with glowing, clear-looking skin.
Makeup
- One of my new years resolutions in 2017 was to not buy any powder eyeshadows or palettes, because I simply had too many that I already didn’t use. I did well and it’s now the end of 2017 and I haven’t bought a single powder eyeshadow. But I did find 2 cream/liquid options that I loved:
- The Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow is the only glitter you’ll ever need. You dip the applicator, apply directly to lid, and blend slightly with a fingertip- voila, you have perfect holiday/celebration eyes. There’s no fallout, no creasing, and it comes in tons of awesome shades.
- Laura Mercier Caviar eye sticks were my other favorite eyeshadow find this year- they’re a cross between a twistable pencil and a cream formula, and they apply wonderfully and last ALL day. My favorite shade is amethyst, but I use all 4 shades in the travel-sized holiday kit I picked up, especially rosegold on days when I want something subtle but pretty on my lids.
- As far as lips are concerned, this year I really stayed away from the liquid lipsticks I loved so much in 2016. I found those formulas too drying and noticeable on the lips, so I wanted to experiment with lighter formulas, stains, and moisturizing products.
- The Lancome Matte shakers are amazing. They’re relatively inexpensive for a luxury lip product, fun to apply, whimsical in packaging, and above all- the formula is a dream. You basically press this lightweight liquid onto your lips with the sponge applicator, and it dries to a matte stain that lasts through kisses and full meals and is easy to re-apply.
- A few liquid lipsticks that launched this year did meet my standards of being hydrating while still long-lasting: YSL Rogue tatouage and the Armani lip magnets. Both are very expensive but come in a good variety of shades, and are pretty much the only matte liquid lipsticks you’ll ever need. I can’t go back to Colourpop and Kat Von D now that I’ve had these lovely-feeling lipsticks on!
- Glossier cloud paint in beam and haloscope in quartz were my go-to blush and highlighter all year. The cloud paint delivers more long-lasting pigment than any of my powder blushes, and applies wonderfully to lighter-coverage bases. Beam is a gorgeous peach-coral shade that would work on lots of skin tones. I was skeptical of Haloscope since I have oily skin and the center of these highlighting tubes is made of coconut oil. But instead of adding grease, a sweep of quartz just adds the most beautiful shimmer and glow.
- Jaclyn Hill introduced us all to Dior’s Diorskin Forever Perfect Foundation and after hearing that it made her pores disappear and lasted all day at an amusement park, I went out and bought it. It’s expensive, but I’ve used it pretty much every time I’ve done makeup this year because it is perfection. It’s lightweight and barely noticeable on the skin, but still has good coverage and seems to photo-shop my face, plus it never moves or fades on me, which is insane. The only downsides are the cost and the fact that it doesn’t play super well with other products, especially powders- but tbh you don’t need much extra coverage!
TV
- I have to give a shout-out to the finale of Pretty Little Liars, which was some of the most bonkers television out there. Riverdale was another guilty pleasure
- I eagerly awaited Stranger Things s2 and had such a lovely Halloween binge watching the season, which I liked even more than the first. I also loved s7 of Game Of Thrones more than any other, which is controversial to some.
- Other favorites in 2017: Rick & Morty, Big Little Lies, Handmaid’s Tale, Mindhunter
Movies
(Disclaimer: I still haven’t see Ladybird, Call Me By Your Name, or Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which I predict will be favorites for me)
- Even though I actually disliked Star Wars: The Last Jedi, I anticipated it all year long and the act itself of watching a Star Wars movie in theaters made it a favorite for me.
- The Disaster Artist, The Little Hours and I, Tonya were the funniest movies I saw this year.
- I really liked Wonder Woman, Get Out, Molly’s Game, and Blade Runner 2049
- I mostly liked Logan, Atomic Blonde, and Dunkirk too.
That’s all I can think of for now!

Recent Favorites
I haven’t done a monthly favorites post in a while, but I’m back to share things I’ve been loving recently!
makeup+skincare
- MILK matcha toner- I bought this toner simply because it’s in stick form and TSA friendly, but man do I love it. It’s extremely soothing and cooling to apply and makes my skin feel SO soft. Since I work from home there’s lots of days where I don’t apply any makeup or do much to my skin, and sometimes it starts to feel flaky and gross - this toner mega helps and takes a second to apply.
- Lancome matte shakers- These have quickly become my favorite liquid lipstick formula because they aren’t drying or uncomfortable to wear and fade to a deep stain. They’re also relatively cheap for a luxury brand and the packaging is quite cute.
- Glossier Cloud Paint+ Haloscope- I’m still hardcore into this long-lasting liquid blush in the shade ‘beam’ and this gently illuminating stick highlighter. If you’re looking to get anyone makeup for the holidays this year, go with these two products- anyone from a young tween to an old lady can wear these, and makeup newbies and hoarders alike will enjoy.
- Laura Mercier caviar stick in Amethyst- I was skeptical of these eyeshadow sticks as they come in a lot of very plain colors, but I’ve tried a LOT of stick eyeshadows and these ones last the longest. Amethyst is a beautiful glittery bronze shade that will look good on any eye color and is insanely easy to swipe on.
fashion
- I’ve been living in these ‘troopa’ boots from Steve Madden, which have a surprisingly feminine quality to them despite being combat-looking. I love the side-zip so I don’t have to un-tie and re-tie everything 50 times.
- Old Navy has a great selection of tunic-length sweaters right now, which is a big deal for me because if I could wear leggings every day I would, but I also love a good thick winter sweater. Paired with boots your legs look a mile long too.
- I also have to give a shoutout to my old H&M infinity scarf, which is thick and mustard colored and I wore every day in Italy. I like that you can wear it like a normal scarf or keep it long like a shawl. This one is sort of similar.
Movies + TV
- There are about to be 10,000 movies I want to see (the new Star Wars, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Lady Bird, Murder on the Orient Express), but I did manage to see Thor: Ragnarok and Geostorm recently. Geostorm needed about 100 more actual geostorms but gets credit for having my celebrity crush Jim Sturgess. Thor was surprisingly funny and shoutout to my girl Tessa Thompson who is killing it lately.
- STRANGER THINGS 2. Ya’ll, I think I liked this season more than the first. The only episode I didn’t like was the one everyone didn’t like; the clear set up for a spinoff about Eleven’s “sister”. However I loved all the time we spent with each character, and all I have to say is I LOVE U BOB
- Riverdale is bonkers this season! It’s all about serial killers, gangs, drugs, date rape, you name it, but set inside a quaint comic book town. This season needs more Cheryl and some more Pussycat performances, but I appreciate the time they’re giving to Betty and Veronica’s friendship. I also love to watch those real life actors do press together.

Packing/ Travel Beauty Tips!
Next week BF and I leave for a week long trip to Italy. We’re hitting Rome, Florence and Venice, so we’ll be traveling through slightly different climates and doing a variety of activities- which always causes packing dilemas. To make it more complicated, we’re just bringing carry-ons, so I’ll be space-restricted and limited by the TSA liquids rules.
Here are some of the helpful things I’ve discovered while trying to pack:
1. Go solid or powder for non-makeup items when possible. I love dry shampoo and it’s definitely a travel essential, but instead of an aerosol taking up valuable real estate in my liquids bag, I went the powder route. Bumble & Bumble do a nice one but there are drugstore options too. MILK and a few other K brands do solid facial cleansers and toners or powder exfoliants. Lush does shampoo and conditioner bars and even solid lotion bars.
2. But powder makeup isn’t always the answer. I actually prefer not to travel with powder makeup, even though it’s TSA friendly, for 2 reasons: 1) You need a different brush for each powder product and those take up space and 2) they’re super delicate and breakable- I’ve definitely arrived with a shattered blush!
3. Don’t test out new skincare. It may be tempting to buy whatever travel sizes are available or grab a new face mask for the plane, but your skin likes consistency. Your skin is adapting to SO much: stress, plane air, new climates and food, hotel pillowcases, etc- so baby it a little and give it the usual stuff, plus some extra moisture (and drink LOTS of water).
4. Get multi-tasking hair products. When I’m at home and have the luxury of lots of storage, I alternate between different hair products for different needs or styles. But there are plenty of 1 stop products that do it all. I like the Alterna Caviar Volumizing mist, which conditions and helps smooth and style my hair too, but a classic is It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In.
5. Avoid the grey area around cream products. For years I have been baffled by which of my makeup products are considered a cream. My Maybelline color tattoo cream eyeshadow has cream in the name, but it’s really like a pot of solid pigment. My stick bronzer is in stick form, but the product is creamy. I’ve even heard of some brutal TSA agents considering lipsticks ‘cream products’. The alternative to this mess? Go pencil. I have pencil eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick and contour now.
6. Get a good tinted lip balm and one bold lip product. Packing lipstick stresses me out because I never know what kind of mood I’m going to be in or what might go best with a certain outfit or scenario. Will I want a red liquid lipstick? A creamy berry? a matte nude?? In the end, I BARELY end up using any of the lip products I pack, instead reaching for the comfiest lip balm. Plane travel and unusual AC systems make your lips chapped as hell! Now I bring the Dior lip glow, which has a light pink tint and makes my lips feel amazing and look plump. There’s also the Glossier Generation G lipsticks for this and the Fresh Sugar lip balms. Then I’ll throw in one statement lip pencil, depending on the trip (bright coral for a tropical vacation, for example).
7. Be realistic. I know it’s tempting to pack with the mindset of being prepared for all situations, but you’ll almost always end up overpacking that way. I once brought false lashes with me on a vacation thinking ‘what if I want to wear these to a club?’ without even considering that I definitely wouldn’t be going to a club... Instead try to be minimalistic and keep the parameters of your realistic trip in mind. Am I really going to have the time to apply a full face of makeup at 6 am before we go to the Vatican? No. Am I really going to take a shower and re-do my makeup before dinner? No, I’m going to nap. It’s always best to stick to your everyday basics, and if you really need something you can always buy it there.
8. Research the beauty and makeup situation where you’e going. Almost everywhere will have unique beauty traditions, brands and products. Leave room in your suitcase and budget to pick up something special that you can use when you’re back home. I know KIKO is a popular Italian makeup brand, so I’m looking forward to picking something up from them!

Glossier Review
I’ve said some nasty things about Glossier in the past. They, like other minimalist beauty brands, put out the idea that people who wear lots of makeup are high-maintenance and trying to hide themselves- and people who wear oily, cream products that just hint at coverage are the coolest of girls: Glossier targets people with already pretty great skin who want to seem French- by this I mean, women who wake up without pores and with rose-tinted lips and who just dot on a few products before running out to sip espresso with their DILF husband. It is secretly my dream, as well.
Glossier is selling you the dream- Their packaging is minimal, subtly feminine and trendy, they give you stickers and cool pink bags, one of their products is literally even called “cloud paint”.... And despite nearly Sephora-level prices, millions of us have bought in.
I really want to hate Glossier but I’ve loved nearly everything I’ve tried. (A disclaimer is that I still haven’t tried their skin tint or stretch concealer, as I am wary with my oily and acne-prone skin). Here’s a rundown of those things and some thoughts:
Soothing Face Mist ($18): I love a face mist, especially in the summer. To me, a good one has glycerin in it, a nice scent, and a good spray nozzle. The Glossier one has all three, and while it’s pricier than some other sprays I’ve used, you get a good amount and it really does help to calm skin and reduce redness. I use this after cleansing (or removing makeup w micellar water) and before moisturizer, or any time I need a refresh throughout the day.
Mega Greens Galaxy Pack Mask ($22): I was expecting this to do nothing for my skin and boy was I wrong- this mask combines clay and exfoliating beads which really detoxify and brighten the skin without stripping it. It’s now beating out my higher-end masks for most-used. If you have super dry skin, you might want to follow with their hydrating moon mask.
“Super Pure” Serum ($28): I’ve been tied to my Sunday Riley skincare, but my boyfriend thinks the clarifying UFO oil smells like pee, so I decided to try another acne-busting serum out. This one luckily has no scent, and though I’ve only used it for a month or so, I already think it’s making more of a difference. It’s killer at decreasing redness and sort of tightening up the skin (in a good, clean-feeling way!), and I’ve already seen my blemishes fade. You could use this (under moisturizer) as a nighttime serum, but I’ll probably stick to using it in the morning.
Milky Jelly Cleanser ($18): Another product I wanted to hate and ended up loving. I wouldn’t count on it to remove heavy eye makeup or full-coverage foundation, but I love using it as a second cleansing step or on makeup-free days when I start to feel greasy. I love the pump and how it makes my skin feel, but I haate the strong rose scent. Others really like it, but it kind of smells like an old person mixed with a diaper to me.
Priming Moisturizer ($25): This has quickly replaced my everyday moisturizer because of the finish it leaves on my skin. I wouldn’t say it’s mattifying in the sense that it helps control oil, but it does seem to blur and tighten up my skin a bit after application. If you have very dry skin, I’d go with their thicker version.
Balm Dot Com (all flavors) ($12): This is without a doubt, my favorite lip balm of all time. The formula is thick, but not greasy, almost in between a gel and a cream, and REALLY hydrates and repairs the lips. I haven’t used it anywhere else (though you certainly could use it to soothe cuticles, minor cuts, or dry patches- or even to add a little gloss to the high points of the face), but I see and feel an immediate difference on my lips. I’ve tried this in every scent/shade, and here’s my feedback: the coconut one smelled too strongly and made my lips feel weird- it, the original and the mint ones are clear/ un-tinted. The mint one is my favorite- it’s refreshing and a little tingly. I’m not a huge fan of the rose smell but the pale pink tint on this one makes my lips look plump and juicy. The cherry one is interesting- it’s a little more matte/chalky and very pigmented (red), so you could wear this as a statement lip that’s also moisturizing- love the scent.
Generation G Lipstick in “Crush” ($18): Of all the sins you could commit, making a sheer matte lipstick used to be #1 in my book. But after trying it out, I’m a convert. I see the appeal in a moisturizing balm with a matte finish and a light wash of color. Plus this shade, crush, is a beautiful bright berry that wakes up my face. My only complaint is that after only a few weeks of use the case started to crack and the lipstick broke off in the tube. I can still use it, but for the $$ I shelled out, that’s upsetting. I saw that others experienced the same thing in other reviews and it looks like Glossier is en route to fixing.
Cloud Paint Blush in “Beam” ($18): This is absolutely without a doubt my favorite Glossier product and my new favorite blush of all time. I think the shade, a bright coral, has a lot to do with that, as does the longevity and pigmentation. In the past cream or liquid blushes have been hard to blend and faded off my cheeks quickly, but this one goes on like a dream and lasts longer than even some of my powder blushes. The shade is truly gorgeous and makes my skin glow.
Haloscope Highlighter in “Quartz” ($22): I’m now a cream highlight convert. While I still love the look of a beaming powder highlight, there is something about this stick that makes my skin look insane. There’s a core of coconut oil or something surrounded by pigment that isn’t exactly sparkly or glittery but is also shiny and pearlescent. It’s a more subtle glow rather than a BAM look at this gold glitter look, which I prefer for everyday. I apply it straight from the tubes on the tops of my cheekbones and then tap my fingers in it to apply more there and on my cupid’s bow. If you aren’t into wearing foundation, you could probably put this all over your face and get loads of compliments.
Overall, I still think Glossier is overpriced and has some flaws, but man their products have certainly hooked me. I’ll be repurchasing the Haloscope, cloud paint, cleanser, primer and lipstick when they run out and trying new shades. I’m also excited to try their Body Hero shower oil and Wowder powder.

Fall Lipsticks
Every year as the weather starts to get chilly (ironic since we’re having a heatwave here and it was NINETY today #nope), people ask for recommendations for fall lipsticks. Usually they mean dark and vampy colors to get into the ~witchy spirit~, but I’ve included a few lighter and different shades below too. I’ve also included a variety of drugstore and high-end options as well as different formulas. Here are my top picks for fall lipsticks:
MAC Rebel, $16
If you’re only planning to buy one lip product this season, let it be MAC Rebel. It’s more sheer than the typical MAC mattes, so you can build it up from a light wash of raspberry to a vampy deep berry. It compliments every skin tone and eye color, and has a light staining effect so it lasts forever and fades beautifully.
Revlon Kissable Balm Stain Matte in Sultry, $7
Not your typical fall lipstick, but this is a fantastic deep version of the classic your-lips-but-better shade. It applies a dusty mauve-rose with a hint of purple. The formula is a super comfortable matte and lasts- but touching up is easy with the twist-up pencil shape and minty fragrance.
Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Exorcism, $21
I can’t mention vampy lips without shouting out KVD. Whether you’re looking for a brown-y dark red (Vampira) or a navy blue (Echo) or a true black (Witches), this brand has them all in either liquid or bullet form. I prefer the liquid lipstick versions as they are truly kiss-proof. My favorite vampy shade is this oxblood-berry.
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipstick in Divine Wine, $5-7
These are by far the best matte bullet lipsticks are the drugstore because of how pigmented they are without being drying. This is an ideal shade for those looking to dip their toe into dark and vampy shades- it’s not too purple or too red.
NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu, $27
If you’re looking for a truly almost-black deep purple with a velvet-y finish, you gotta come to NARS. This shade and it’s sister Volga (in the pure mate lipstick range) are both black cherry-purple shades that truly stand out.
Sephora Cream Lip Stain in Blackberry Sorbet, $14
My all-time favorite liquid lipstick formula hits it out of the park with this vampy but not too dark shade. In some lights it’s a deep berry and in others a deep red. Either way, it’ll have heads turning and people asking what it is- plus you’ll never have to worry about it smudging or fading.
Glossier Generation G Lipstick in Jam $18
This is the deepest shade of the Glossier sheer matte lipstick- a concept that once made me vehemently angry. Once I tried it for myself, though, I was hooked- a comfortable, easy to swipe on and go berry lipstick that makes you look like you drank some merlot and ran out the door. Nothing is easier for fall.
Anastasia Beverly Hlls Liquid Lipstick in Heathers, $20
I tend to stay on the berry side of dark lipsticks, but this one from ABH is a true brown-y oxblood that says “I’ve just finished eating blood and practicing witchcraft” like nothing else. I also appreciate how long-lasting this formula is.
Rimmel Kate Moss #107, $5
This is what I call the starter vamp lipstick. It’s the type of shade that you see looking like pop of velvet on celebrities- one that makes your eyes sparkle and your teeth look whiter, without making it seem like you’re in a coven (though, who wouldn’t want to be in a coven honestly!!!). The formula is an old-school matte, which is sometimes just what I want.
Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Pandemonium, $17
The “it” color of this fall is purple. So why not go for a straight up bright purple shade like this? The trick to vampy lipsticks is that they all have a purple or a red undertone, so wearing something like this is not too far off from wearing a deep berry. UD has tons of shades and formulas, and this mega matte one is the most long lasting.
MAC Nightmoth lip liner, $17
Lastly, I wanted to give you a lipliner that goes with pretty much any deep, vampy lipstick. You could of course wear this all over the lips solo, but I find that a bit drying- so I usually line the edges both before and after applying any bullet lipstick. It has pretty much every undertone in it, so it should go with any dark lip look, and can be layered with brighter reds and purples for an ombre look too.

Wishlist/ Holiday Gift Ideas
Yoooo there are some seriously cool new beauty releases that we gotta talk about.
1. Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Eyeshadow Palette ($62)
Call the funeral home because I’m dead. At first glance I thought this looked a bit jumbled/ not that different from other KVD palettes like the Mi Vida Loca Remix etc. However there’s something about it that has me obsessed- maybe it’s the deep purple next to the dark gold or the beautiful oranges and pinks or the shimmery blue... but this is the first time I’ve been majorly inspired by an eye palette and interested in bold shades. I think the price is a bit hefty, but you’re also paying for the insane cathedral packaging with double mirrors- this could be a piece of goth home decor!
2. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Duos, $20
I’ve been a fan of these velvet matte lip pencils since I started this blog several years ago, and they’re still one of my favorite formulas. I’m so happy they’ve started selling them in mini-sized duos, because a) I’ve never gone through a whole one and b) it allows everyone else to try multiple shades for cheap. Cruella/ Dolce Vita is great as it’s a dark red and an everyday rose, but I also appreciate that they offer Damned and Train Bleu, two of my favorite vampy shades for fall. This would make an awesome small gift or stocking stuffer.
3. Farmacy Skin Savior Kit, $45
If you or someone you know is into natural beauty or travels alot, this skincare set is bound to be a hit. The honey potion hydrating mask is amazing for dry or dull skin, the salve is great for cuticles and lips, and the skin dew mist is amazing as a pick me up on warm days, airplanes, or pretty much anytime.
4. Stila Written In The Stars Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow Set, $25
You need this. Everyone needs this immediately. The Stila glitter liquid eyeshadows came out several months ago and got RAVE reviews from literally everyone- they’re without a doubt the best and easiest-to-apply glitters. If you didn’t buy all of them when they launched, this set will hook you up with three of the best shades- a pink-y copper, a taupe and a bright silver, all of which look so festive and gorgeous alone or over other eyeshadow. Even if you don’t tend to wear eye makeup, swiping on one of these will take you to any holiday party or NYE function and make people ask how you got crushed diamonds on your eyeballs.
5. Urban Decay Little Vices Lipstick Kit, $25
People have been real into the re-vamped UD lipsticks with their huge variety of formulations and shades. This kit lets you try a bit of everything, and includes their most popular shade, the dark brown 1993. It’s also got a fun metallic purple and a deep berry, so you’re pretty much set for any occasion.
6. Sephora Superstars Everday Must Haves, $75
Sephora releases a Superstars/ Favorites set every holiday season, but I think this one might take the cake. Products I own and love: Urban Decay setting spray, beauty blender, Smashbox primer, Anastasia brow wiz, MUFE loose powder, NARS velvet matte lip pencil (in awesome shade Cruella). Products I want to try and would consider buying outside this kit: YSL touche eclat, Bobbi Brown shadow stick, Marc Jacobs eyeliner, Tarte mascara. So that leaves maybe 2 other products- which I would also be happy to try. SEEMS WORTH IT. All you’d need is foundation and you’d have pretty much everything else covered.

New Makeup Routine
Instead of rambling on, I’m just going to dive into my almost-entirely new makeup routine and products:
Priming: I’ve really been enjoying the Glossier priming moisturizer, which hydrates but also slightly mattifies the skin and creates an even, smooth base.
Foundation: I’ve been consistently using a new base product that’s sort of a foundation and sort of not, the Dior Forever perfect skin foundation. It has a medium amount of coverage and SPF 35, but it also blurs the skin and lasts literally forever. This is the only base product I’ve tried that doesn’t separate, gather, rub off or fade for an entire day, even when I don’t set it with powder. And the fact that it’s lightweight and has SPF makes it as great for daytime excursions as it is for nights out.
Concealing: I’ve gone back to the very first high-end concealer I ever bought, which also happens to be the most high-coverage and long-lasting one out there- Makeup Forever waterproof concealer. It’s perfect for hiding breakouts or redness.
Bronzing: A year ago I would have literally laughed if anyone suggested I try cream bronzer. Cream products with oily skin? GTFO. That is, until I found the MILK makeup matte bronzing stick. The tube is chubby enough that i just quickly draw a short line in the hollows of my cheeks, blend a little with my fingers and have sun-kissed contours. The color is flattering and it lasts all day, plus is easily blended and buildable. The only downside (if you consider it one) is that it smells a lot like play-doh.
Blush: I’m completely addicted to a new blush that is also a cream product, so the world is probably ending. Glossier’s cloud paint in beam is.... heaven in a tube. The formula is so easy to apply and unlike other cream or liquid blushes I’ve tried it lasts forever and totally wakes up my face. The coral-orange color is so bright and flattering, seriously everyone should own it.
Highlighting: Now that I’ve gone into more cream products I thought I should at least try out a cream highlight, and I’m angry to say that I’ve also fallen in love with this product. As someone who owns at least a dozen expensive and gorgeous powder highlights, I’m ashamed to say that the humble Glossier Haloscope might replace them all. I got the shade Quartz which is a sort of pale pinkish color in the tube but more like a glossy shimmer on the face. It’s a very sticky product, which actually makes it last longer than my powder highlights and it adds a more subtle radiance. Next up I’ll probably try the palest shade, Moonstone or something.
[I’m still using the same brow gel from MAC and mascara from Maybelline. I also haven’t been wearing much eyeshadow]
Eyeliner: I usually buy myself a luxury makeup item for my birthday. Last year was the YSL tint in balm coral thing that I still wear constantly. This year I decided to take the plunge and finally buy the dual-ended Tom Ford eyeliner pen of my dreams. I’ve tried pretty much every drugstore and high-end liquid eyeliner pen, and this one has been hailed as the queen of them all. I love the smaller end for getting extremely close to the lash line and making a tiny, subtle wing, and I use the larger paintbrush end on days when I want a bold cat eye. The formula is smudge-proof, lasts forever and is jet black. Plus the packaging is so luxe I could die.
So there we have it, an almost completely new face of makeup to head into fall with. I’ve been almost completely off liquid lipsticks and other matte/drying formulas, so if you know of any tinted balms that you’re all about, please let me know!
xo

What’s Up W Me + Current Favorites
Wow long time no post! I’ll just say that two things happened at sort of the same time- 1) I stopped wearing foundation/ powder/ eyeshadow/ heavy makeup in general and 2) I started to lose the fervor and lust I used to feel towards acquiring new makeup products. It’s hard to say if one caused the other, but there we have it. I started to realize that the more makeup I wore, the more evident it was when it began sliding off my face in the heat. I also very briefly thought I might be hired at a job (I wasn’t, lol) where I’d have to work in an office again and wake up early and actually get ready each day again. So I wanted to cut my routine down, and I haven’t gone back in 2 months.
I’ve been rotating through the BB creams in my arsenal (Smashbox Photo Ready BB, Maybelline Clean Matte BB, It Cosmetic’s Your Skin But Better CC cream, and very occasionally for night-time events, the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light). If I have a zit, I’m back to an old classic: the Makeup Forever Waterproof concealer, but otherwise I’ve been going concealer and contour-free. I’ll apply some of my trusty tinted brow gel, some of the Glossier cloud paint cream blush in “beam” (a bright orange coral), eyeliner (sometimes a wing, sometimes not), and mascara.
To some of you that may seem still like a lot more makeup than you’d normally wear- but I’ve drastically reduced my routine and couldn’t be happier. I’m getting more confident at being seen without makeup and I think this look is a lot closer to ‘me’ than before. Plus it doesn’t hurt that now when BF wants to go somewhere, I can be ready in 5 minutes rather than 25. You know I’m a big proponent of wearing as much makeup as you effing want and I’ll never tell anyone that taking hours to apply a fully baked and beaten face is anything less than fantastic- but for now I am pleased by minimalism.
I have a full Glossier review coming for you, but I’ll just say that I’ve been really enjoying a lot of their products recently. The Milky Jelly Cleanser has been fantastic for days when I’m not wearing any makeup but get that oily, need-to-wash feeling, or for a second cleanse after I remove makeup with micellar water. Their priming moisturizer has been great under my lighter base, and I cannot get enough of the cloud paint blush.
One more luxurious thing I’ve been liking recently is the Lancome Matte Shakers, which are tiny little cocktail-mixer shaped lip products that you shake up and then dab onto your lips. I’d say it’s more of a stain than a liquid lipstick, and it stays put for hours while feeling comfortable. I have it in a hot orange-coral shade (pretty much all I wear in the summer) and it’s been my go to for everything from July 4th BBQs to date nights.

April Favorites
I’m still trying out a load of new beauty products I picked up in April, some of which I already know I love and some I’m still undecided on. Anyway, here’s a list of all the things I definitely loved this month:
beauty
- Charlotte Tilbury Colour Chameleon Eye Shadow Pencil in “Bronzed Garnet”. This is a chubby eyeshadow stick in a beautiful bronze shade with a hint of purple to it- it’s meant for green eyes but it looks gorgeous on even the deepest brown or the lightest blue eyes as well. It’s easy to use, a unique color, blends well and lasts.
- MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish in “Oh Darling!” . I have enough powder highlights to last me until I die, but I couldn’t resist the pull of this GORGEOUS gold, sparkle-y one from MAC. I think it shows up a little better and lasts longer than even my beloved Becca highlights, and the true gold color is perfect on my fair skin but would probably look even better on deep skin.
- Armani Lip Magnet in “301 Heat” . I am a lover of coral lipstick, especially in the spring and summer, but I didn’t actually have one in a long-lasting liquid lipstick formula. After trying this formula in another shade and adoring it, I decided to take the ($$) plunge during the Sephora sale. This is hands down the most comfortable liquid lipstick formula I’ve ever tried- it isn’t drying and when it eventually starts to fade it does so gently (no dreaded butthole lip). It’s not completely transfer proof, but while some might end up on your cup, it doesn’t look like it’s left your mouth, and this has lasted me hours and hours.
- Clinique Pretty Easy Liquid Lining Pen. We all know that I haven’t been the hugest fan of Clinique, but man are they making a comeback! This eyeliner is around the same price as the KVD tattoo pen, but the tip is slightly thinner so you can really get a precise, thin line. It’s also more easily available and probably will last me a little longer.
skincare
- SHEET MASKS you guys. I know I’m 100 years late to the game (mostly because sheet masks are by nature, meant to impart moisture into the skin, and I’ve typically been into masks that help detox my oily/congested skin) but I’ve been really enjoying them lately. Other than how they help my skin to feel and look awesome, I’ve loved that I don’t have to wash my face at all and I can wear my glasses over them! The best one I’ve tried so far is this ORGAID Vitamin C one, but if you’re looking for quantity without sacrificing quality, these Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze sheet masks come in a set of 15 for $14 on Amazon - I love that they smell like real fruit but aren’t harsh or sticky.
- Pixi Glow Tonic. You might be familiar with the Pixi Beauty brand at Target, which has been sort of of a miss for me in the past. However everyone raves about their glow tonic being an amazing chemical exfoliant/ toner, and I finally tried it out. I’ve already seen my skin improve- it looks less dull and the congestion on my nose has died out, plus some hormonal acne scars are starting to fade!
movies + TV
- Pretty Little Liars is back for the final 10 episodes!!!!! Anyone else freaking the fudge out?? No? Just me? I’m actually planning to do a post just about PLL and my theories about the final reveal... even though I might be the only person this excited for it.
- American Gods. I’ve only watched the first episode of this series based on the book by Neil Gaiman, but so far it looks craaazy. The special effects are cool and it has some of my favorite actors (Ian McShane, and the guy who plays pornstache in OITNB/ the crazy guy who kidnaps Det. Benson on SVU).
- The Little Hours. Yooooo, I don’t know when this is coming to regular theaters, but I got a glimpse of this hysterical sexy nun comedy during the Boston independent film festival and died. It was simply amazing- misandry, witches, nuns, spot-on performances by every comedy actor/tress you’ve ever loved. Definitely check it out.
books
- Milk And Honey by Rupi Kaur. This is a beautiful collection of short, female-centered poems by a young Indian woman. I was moved by 99% of them and enjoyed reading quiet, inspirational notes that remind me to love myself. There are also cool illustrations making this seem like a feminist Shel Silverstein book.
- Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. I won’t lie, I started reading this book because I saw that they are making it into a movie starring Tessa Thompson (one of my favorite actresses who you may recognize from Westworld and Creed). I enjoyed the suspense and science in it, and love to see an almost entirely female cast in a sci-fi book. If you’re looking for explicit answers, you’ll need to read on in the series or come up with your own explanations.
I haven’t included clothing or food here as I’ve got dedicated posts on those coming up (am I doing Whole 30? MAYBE). I also placed a Glossier order so I’ll be doing a haul/review of my favorite products of theirs soon.

Sephora Spring Sale + My Recs
Every year Sephora has two sales for its members- one in April and a slightly larger one in November. If you’re not a member it’s free to join, at which point you automatically become a Beauty Insider. Folks who spend more reach VIB status, and folks who spend TOO MUCH (like me) reach VIB Rouge status. This stuff matters during the sale- it determines what percent off you get (15% for VIB and VIB Rouge and 10% for BI) and when you can use your code. Click here for details and dates.
General Notes: if you’re already a BI, VIB or VIB Rouge, you should have gotten or will get a note in the mail and/or an e-mail with a physical card you can use in store and the code to use online. If you haven’t gotten one, you can google around to find this year’s code matching your status. You can use the code as many times as you want within your specific sale dates, and yes you can use it on already on sale items. It may seem like a meager discount, but take advantage of it!!
My recommendations:
1. It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream with SPF- This is quickly becoming the most recommended base maybe of all time? This CC cream is actually more full coverage without being thick and cake-y, so it works for young and mature skin, oily or dry, acne or scarring, etc. It’s dew-y without sliding around and has SPF 45 so it’s perfect for warm weather.
2. Sephora Favorites Power of The Petal Set- Any of the Sephora Favorites sets are amazing deals that have helped me discover some of most loved products. I’m suggesting this one because it has a ton of hydrating products and the SK-II toner that normally costs more than a house.
3. Stila Magnificent Metals Liquid Eyeshadow- Whether you’re looking to experiment with fun makeup, amp up the festivity for a special event, or you’re just someone who loves glitter but hates fallout and glitter glue- this easy liquid glitter is for you. You can use it all over the lid, as an inner highlight, or as glitter liner, and it comes in 10 gorgeous shades.
4. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask- If you don’t already have a good exfoliant (chemical or physical), you NEED to try this mask. It’s expensive so your discount will go far, but you get a ton of product and it will last sooo long- plus it’s the only exfoliant I’ve used that makes a huge difference in my skin immediately after use. I apply it for 3-5 minutes in the shower while conditioning my hair and shaving, scrub it off and am left with insanely bright, soft skin. It’s honestly magic.
5. Giorgio Armani Lip Magnet Liquid Lipsticks- I think I mentioned these uber-comfy liquid lipsticks in another post, but I’ll echo that while these aren’t the super matte (and super drying) transfer-proof liquid lipsticks you might be used to, they are still long-lasting and fade naturally into a lovely stain. Another luxury item where you’ll really feel the discount.
6. Sunday Riley Sunday School Skincare set- I won’t say much since all I do is rant about how much I love Sunday Riley products, but: you’re getting two of the most popular SR products (Luna and Good Genes) as well as getting to try out the new CEO line. The vitamin C-rich moisturizer smells amazing and has been calling my name.
7. YSL Touche Eclat Star Collection- The Touche Eclat concealer/ highlighting pen is certainly my personal Everest. I’ve lusted after this product for years and never bought it, partially due to cost and partially because I’m not sure how it will hold up on my oily skin. They’ve brought out the limited edition star packaging again, and I bet this would be amazing for on the go touch ups this summer.... IS THIS THE YEAR I BUY IT?? Is this the year YOU buy it? Treat yo self.
8. Jo Malone Perfume- I’m so excited Jo Malone is finally at Sephora!! I bought myself a bottle of Blackberry and Bay perfume a few years ago at a Blue Mercury (get out), and even though I’ve run out I haven’t wanted to schlep back there. Now you and I both can get our favorite unique scents on sale!

March Favorites
The weather this march was in like a lion and also... out like a lion, with snow and rainstorms and general gloominess. But at least I found some fun new stuff to share!
beauty
- I have to shout out the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation+Concealer and the Kat Von D Lock-It Setting Spray, which have their own post here.
- Perhaps the best beauty thing I discovered this month is the Bite Beauty Multistick in ‘Praline’. It’s a flat-cut tube lipstick that can be used on cheeks and eyes as well. The formula is matte and almost powder-y, making it long-lasting and perfect for skin or lips. I chose a peach shade which blends out to a soft glow on the cheeks and eyelids, but looks like a burnt orange on the lips- which is exactly what I wanted. If you’d rather have a cream contour and a deep lipstick, go for a darker tone. I haven’t done any traveling yet with it but I feel like it’s perfect for on the go since it does so many duties.
- During the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Sale (still going on! See my post on it) I picked up YET ANOTHER peach-y blush. I definitely do not need any more peach blush, but I could not resist trying a formula I’ve had my eye on for 50% off. I grabbed Too Faced’s Love Flush Blush in the shade “I Will Always Love You”, and I am very happy with it. It has just the right amount of subtle shimmer and is the perfect coral shade- not too much orange or pink.
- If you’re looking for a translucent, loose setting powder, may I recommend Dermablend? I got a sample of theirs and have been using it to bake the areas of my face that get more oily- and I think it keeps shiny-ness at bay longer than my Laura Mercier powder.
clothing
- I recently picked up this Old Navy summer-y dress and want to recommend it. The model isn’t really doing it justice, but this is a mid-length flow-y floral dress that can be worn off the shoulder or not (I’ll probably wear it so that it coves my bra straps) and has a chiffon under-layer. It looks amazing as a beach-y sundress and even works with boots and tights for cooler weather.
- I’ve never been a huge fan of babydoll style dresses, but this short black smock dress from ASOS caught my eye. It’s so comfortable and loose around the tummy, but has an element of sexiness from being quite short. I’ve only worn it over leggings so far, but I’m excited to bust it out with some mary-janes in the summer.
TV & Movies
- I’ve been addicted to Big Little Lies, the HBO series based on the best-selling novel about 5 rich ladies whose young children go to school together. It’s twisty and suspenseful, but has moments of hilarity (thanks mostly to Laura Dern and Reese Witherspoon’s perfect portrayal of wealthy mommies) and serious levity (delving into abusive relationships and rape). The best thing abut BLL is that it’s one of the first non-sitcom TV shows I can think of that stars an all-female ensemble cast.
- Logan and Kong: Skull Island were both good for different reasons: Logan is the first really well-done/well-acted Marvel movie, while Kong harkens back to the era of fun monster fight epics. I still need to see Life and Beauty & The Beast.
- I also finally started watching The Good Wife, which is part Law and Order style courtroom drama and part interesting insight into what it’s like to be the wife of a philandering politician who gets caught.
etc.
- If you’re looking for a frozen pizza that is almost better than delivery (lol), definitely try one of the Freschetta naturally rising crust options (four cheese and pepperoni are our favs).
-If you’re in the Boston area and have an Amazon Prime account, you can now get free 2 hour delivery on select items (they drive them to you from a warehouse in the South End) via Amazon Prime Now.
** ~ Also, A PSA is that there is a Sephora sale coming this month! They haven’t released the dates or info yet, so keep an eye on my blog for more info when I know it! ~ **

Updated Skincare Routine
I know I’ve done one of these before, but I’ve changed a lot in my routine in the past few months and am really loving the results.
In the AM: I rarely shower in the daytime so I don’t usually wash my face in the morning (unless I slept with my makeup on which has happened a few times...). There’s no reason to wash off my overnight serum doing it’s job! Instead I start by applying a light layer of Sunday Riley’s UFO ultra-clarifying face oil (which treats and prevents hormonal breakouts and congested skin) followed by my CeraVe PM face moisturizer (PM refers to the fact that it doesn’t have SPF- it I’m going to be out in the sun a lot I’ll obviously use SPF). Then if I’m wearing makeup I’ll go right into primer and regular makeup application.
In the PM: To take off my makeup I use Garnier Fructis’ Micellar Cleansing Water and some cotton rounds. I find that this gets even the toughest eye makeup off and isn’t supposed to be rinsed off, so I don’t usually do additional cleansing. Then before bed I apply Sunday Riley’s Luna Sleeping Night Oil, which acts as a serum and overnight hydrator, and a layer of Glossier’s Balm Dotcom on my lips.
In the shower: I don’t shower daily, and I don’t usually cleanse in it, but I will exfoliate. I try to use Garnier’s Charcoal Blackhead-Clearing Scrub twice a week and Peter Thomas Roth’s Pumpkin Enzyme Mask once every other week.
Masks: I try to use some kind of mask once or twice a week. I won’t talk too much more about the Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask (amazing for clearing and hydrating skin), or my other old favorite the Origins Clear Improvements Charcoal Mask, but I will mention my new favorite: Glossier’s Mega Greens Galaxy Pack Mask. It’s a clay mask which draws out impurities and exfoliates, but doesn’t strip or dry out the skin. I really love using that one on the weekends before I apply makeup for date night or any events, because it leaves an awesome prepped surface for foundation.
Tell me about your routines!
