Recently, I posted about Shang Qinghua's appearance, and now I'd like to share my own concept of how he looks.

Today's Topic: Character Designs in SVSSS

You’re probably thinking, “Hey, what’s the big deal with these designs? They seem fine. Why are you so worked up?🤨 Don’t you have better things to do?”

And sure, I do have other things to do. BUT DAMN IT, THAT DOESN’T MAKE THEM ANY LESS IRRITATING. As an artist and a huge fan of this novel, it’s honestly painful to see how the fandom depicts some of the characters—most of the time, they just don’t match the canon at all.

Take Shen Qingqiu, for instance. Why did everyone unanimously decide that he has green or turquoise eyes? 👿 In the actual story, his eyes are described as being just a shade lighter than black. So yeah, they could be gray, light brown, or amber—but definitely not turquoise or green. I mean, these characters are supposed to be Asian, after all! Call me picky, but even in a world with magic, I’m gonna have issues with someone giving him green eyes instead of brown.

And here’s what really gets me: Shang Qinghua’s design. Like, are y’all seriously okay with him looking like a teenager? Are we really cool with that? Because I’m not. Why does he look SO young? Next to Shen Qingqiu, he looks like he’s about 14. And why has everyone decided he should have this ridiculous, baby-faced look??

Let me just remind everyone that he’s supposed to look fairly attractive—even Shen Yuan says so in one of the chapters. And considering that Shen Yuan prefers more masculine-looking characters, I doubt he’d call some baby-faced guy attractive 😽.

I love Shang Qinghua, and I just don’t agree with people portraying him as unserious and overly young.
