“We have people claiming Veilguard is fundamentally incompatible with previous games when, in reality, it’s just not catering to the version of the story they built in their head.”
That is something Insee so often. People getting mad because for the past 10 years they came up with a headcanon that was not fulfilled in Veilguard, and then saying it’s a bad game. No it is not, it is not what you had imagined in your head, but that is not the same as a bad game.
This might also be the reason why people are so in love with the Artbook and Joplin, because this “version” of DA4 allows them to keep their headcanon and to believe that this none existing DA game would have been exactly like that headcanon.
I know everyone’s annoyed with the media literacy aspect of fandom or criticism but like girl, can we for a minute call the issues around Veilguard and its reception what it is.
Veilguard is the fourth game in a series, yet we have people complaining about continuity or retcons when they take Veilguard out of context and act like it exists in a vacuum. We have people complaining about retcons when the thing retconned is just fanon. We have people complaining about sanitized lore when corpses are everywhere, but they need a character to explicitly point to a corpse and exclaim “oh no, a corpse,” otherwise, it doesn’t count.
We have people acting like every single unanswered question is some great narrative failing when, it’s a serialized story—some threads were meant to be left open for future exploration. We have people claiming Veilguard is fundamentally incompatible with previous games when, in reality, it’s just not catering to the version of the story they built in their head. We have people so caught up in their own interpretations that they think anything that challenges those interpretations is a mistake rather than, you know, just a different perspective.
And honestly, there are waaay too many people who are at their core just dissatisfied with the way Solas was written in Veilguard, mostly because they failed at media literacy a decade ago. And instead of recognizing that maybe they misread the text, they’re out here insisting the writers got it wrong, as if they weren’t the ones constructing an entire personality for him out of vague voice lines and wishful thinking.

So true! I actually enjoy the combat, like really enjoy it for the first time in a DA game.
I love the combat in Veilguard. Every single class is fun to play. None of my Wardens, Hawkes, or Inquisitors were warriors because I just wasn't into the fighting style, but I just made a warrior Rook and it is just as much fun as rogue or mage combat

I've been asked several times recently if there's confirmation in the files that the first room in the Fade Ossuary is related to Rook. Yes, there is. But actually, it's also mentioned in the game. That's what Spite is talking about.
To get past the locks you have to get past the guards. The first room has a lock, but no guard, which surprises Rook. And Spite explains why.
Rook: Nobody's here. Spite: Of course not. Rook can't be here. Rook: Me? Why not? Spite: You open doors. You don't close them.
Lucanis can't imagine Rook as his guard. Rook is the reason he's free. And if he imagines Rook as the key, which they are, then for him it means releasing a demon.
Symbolically, the first room is Lucanis' cell. The place where he and Rook first met.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Compared to the real Ossuary, there is a table with playing cards and fewer ice crystals. Alas gambling Rook is a hidden detail. Not everyone will know about this. If you romance Emmrich, you'll hear that he's afraid to play cards with Rook. If you romance Lucanis, Rook will say they can play cards with Spite while he sleeps. Elek in Minrathous calls Rook a killer in wicked grace. Maybe it's mentioned somewhere else, dunno. So I think the cards are also hinting at Rook.
Tumblr media
As for the files, in the Ossuary the entrance to Lucanis' cell named Lucanis Cell Door.
Tumblr media
But in his mental prison, this entrance has a different name. Door to Rook.

Well, let’s see:
Taash
Shianni
Harding
I think I’m good
The world is in great peril, and you are the unlucky protagonist who must save it! Spin this wheel three times and get your Dragon Age party that you're stuck trying to save it with.
Feel free to reroll repeats. Most are companions, but there are also a few companion-adjacent possibilities. You can assume that you as the protagonist have a basic level of combat competency even if you don't in real life, so don't worry about yourself

Not really anything to add, but some said that the green cloud storm could be connected to the void?
I had a total lore headcanon explosion after sitting around thinking about Karash and the "devouring storm" and uuuuh...
Hear me out, so the Qun are super driven towards conquering, yeah? A lot of folks I seen talk about it like it's because they're just like.. evil, they think everyone should live like them and sure I kind of get it in a campy mega-villain way.
But what if they're also running from something, and it's more an act of short term self preservation as apposed to long term self-preservation/colonization.
The devouring storm is "green clouds" as was the tear in the fade, at least in Inquisition. Is it devouring as in... eating at the edge of their world? Like their known world is in a state of atrophy, just caving in on itself and shrinking their territory? The Qun hate magic passionately, violently - could that be because they see themselves literally at war with the magic that's consuming their world? We get crumbs of knowledge from various codex stating that venturing to the borders of their map ends in disaster and (assumed) death.. maybe it's because anyone that's tried to push through the decaying borders themselves decayed or got lost in the fade.... And what would Solas' tie to the Fade post-Veilguard mean for that devouring storm?? If ANYONE else has seen this idea discussed elsewhere or has any thoughts I'm dying to dig into this more..

I'm glad that they cut the "elves running to fenharel to join his army and they'll stand in your way" as Solas is far more interesting as a lone man egg menace. He didn't need to be a cult leader.
Also having to fight a bunch of freed slaves with a cult like devotion to Solas is just awful and horrendous optics

About all the evil blood Magee in Tevinter being Venetori: isn’t that what the Venetori are? Powerful mages from Tevinter who want more power? What reason would an evil blood mage from Tevinter have to not join the Venetori, especially now that they have a God with them?
And I’m not saying there isn’t a single none Venetori slave owner, but they are probably not that much into Blood magic. Are they all good people? Probably not, but they aren’t the ones killing their slaves.
I agree that having more slaves working for the Shadow Dragons would have been nice, but then again I don’t know the backstory of all the Shadow Dragons in that hide out, and I still haven’t finished the run were I saved Minrathous, but I also think that the Shadow Dragons try to get the none Tevinter slaves back home.
Pardon my Orlesian but why the FUCK are some of y'all so obsessed with the idea of graphic slave representation in Veilguard in a “I need it to be in my face” kind of way and “Rook should have had a slave origin choice, especially wrt the Shadow Dragons” comments and like.
Who and what are these trains of thought helping.
I need to know why you think this would be a value add and what kind of enrichment it's contributing to your enclosure. Be very explicit. Explain to me like I'm five. Cite sources too, like I want to make sure we played the same game.

stumbled upon a random Solas pic here on tumblr. Didn’t save it, but all I could see was that without his nose he would look like Voldemort. Now I can’t get this thought out of me head >_<

Just stumbled unto another negative Veilguard TikTok. How BioWare destroyed the franchise by changing the tone of the game… and I’m again wondering what game they all played. Maybe people here on tumblr saying that too many people only played the game once (if they at all finished it, if the Achievements are anything to go by), and missed the small ways this game tells parts of it’s stories.
And I hate that this TikTok made me feel sad again, because them not liking the game shouldn’t matter to me, because I still get a lot out of the game and it makes me really happy, and in the end, that’s what should matter. Can’t make people enjoy something. (Thought what really annoyed me with that video was this claim that no true DA fan likes Veilguard, why do they always have to make claims like that?)

As someone in and around their 30’s it has been INSANE to see feminism in popular media descend through
Women can wear pants and play sports and that’s equality. Women don’t just belong inside the house. This woman has a career
This woman can be a mechanic just like a man could. She’s probably still a lesbian, though, which is basically the closest to a man a woman can *be*, and explains everything. But she’s still a person!
If a woman superhero CHOOSES to wear stilettos to fight crime, that’s girl power! This comic character written and designed by men wears a bikini and has a waist size of 12 inches because it makes her FEEL POWERFUL! Girls don’t HAVE to dress boyish to be strong! She can make you a sandwich AND be a feminist! Girl power!
What, are you saying women HAVE to do boy things to be taken seriously? Who are you to tell a woman what to do? Maybe some women NEED to get their hair and nails done twice a month to feel powerful! Maybe a lot of women WANT to be stay-at-home moms!
What I don’t think you understand is that women have an inherent feminine spirituality which guides them towards maternal and nurturing paths. Women need to honour their divine female aura to keep their. Their fuckin. Their chakras together or some shit. You should put quartz up your hooha and huff wheatgrass. Leaving manual labour and science and technology to men is natural and good for you spiritually
Uh she can’t do that, that’s a blue job, she’s a pink job girly. Food? Yeah, she’s having #girl dinner, which is a handful of almonds. Time for our 15 step skincare routine, which is empowering. Hashtag #girlboss. Ew no, touching dirt? She’s just a girl. You can’t expect a girl to do that. Haha #girl logic

Planung a lot with a headset on at the moment, so the music is much more present for me now. And let me tell you how often I just stop and think to myself “gosh, this music is great”, while my companions shout at me to stop standing in the line of fire… :P
I need to take a moment to let everyone know that I have been LOSING MY SHIT over the Veilguard score since October. And the more I listen to it, the more insane I get over it. Like Hans and Lorne worked some MAGIC on this one, guys.
