Reminded for a minute how much I fucking hate Rook from the bottom of my heart, burning flames on the side of my face, and I got a little energy from how intense the very simmering hatred is. Literally the *few traits that make me dislike a protagonist, all combined into one horrifying pov character. I hate them so much lmao

*among other things,

1) muddiest thematic writing of all time that meant nothing even after I tried to think about it for a couple months. it should not be that hard to find some interest or complexity 2) hyuk hyuk we saved the world, guys, we're heroes. wow. that was remarkably straightforward. good thing the world is divided into Good and Bad and you can simply discard the Bad. that was easy 3) zero introspection whatsoever 4) their lack of thoughtfulness killing many many people and then being praised rather than criticized more than a passing comment 5) there's apparently no unreliable narration that actually matters in a characterization kind of way. they say something and they mean it, and they have no deeper secrets they're actively hiding, or there's no selfish personal agenda you can ascribe to them having that complicates any situation they're in. 6) they do not suffer at all even slightly compared to the antagonist they're being contrasted against, and then they lecture them about how they couldn't deal with having a much much worse time than Rook did. literally the most unforgivable thing any main character can do imo 7) zero complexity. they are actually right, everyone else is wrong, the world is simple and they are Good. nothing to think about 8) no one is able to even get mad at them, they float in a world with only vague physical threats and no emotional challenges that make sense or resonate as true. No, you can't just say 5/6 of the way through the story "oh yeah, rook has been struggling with regret like Solas" when that's not true and it hasn't come up even slightly in any scene before that. doesn't resonate 9) corporate mandated annoying as fuck way of speaking 10) we win cause we're just built different (WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT????? IT'S SO FUCKING ARBITRARY???????) 11) I hate them so fucking much guys lmfao
