“Some there are who have seen her standing like a tree under heaven, crowned with the Sun; and from all its branches there spilled a golden dew upon the barren earth, and it grew green with corn;”

The Gemini
It started with a reference of that famous statue of Leto Latina with her twins but then turned to a family portrait. Also I like this more cropped variant

Thinking about Maedhros being so exited to have things again after Thangorodrim. Turgon gives him old clothes to wear and he doesn’t take them off for a week. A healer gives him a little pot of salve for his dry lips and he rations it like a child would their first allowance. When he goes outside for the first time he asks if he is allowed to pick a flower, and then if he is allowed to keep it, and over the next few days Fingon’s room is filled with erratic bouquets because Maedhros has not had anything beautiful in so, so long.
At his brothers’ camp he lives in a small room with a mattress and straw mat, because they have had no time to prepare aught else, but it is so much more than he has had for long years, and he asks his brothers to put a sign on the door that says ‘Nelyo’s Room: Please Knock’ and he sits there for long hours smiling because this space is his, and when he invites guests inside it is with the magnanimity of a lord offering boons to his vassal, because that is how it feels to Maedhros.
Thinking about Maedhros rediscovering the joy of giving. He gets an old comb from Finrod, and he lends it to his brothers to show him he cares. He leaves them interesting rocks he finds outside. He recovers his old things, those he brought from Valinor, and goes to a carpenter to trade a silk scarf for a figurine of an eagle. He gives this to Fingon. He wants to show his gratitude. He wants to share his joy.
Maedhros remembering purity and goodness after so long in the dark.

@qharlie you can't just make me teary eyed with some tags, how dare
My fav random elf headcanon is that, since the first thing the first elves saw upon waking up were the stars, it's super important to them that their babies see the stars early on too.
I imagine in Tirion they paint the ceiling of their bedroom to look like the nightsky in anticipation, so that this will be the first thing the child can see.
In Menegroth it has become customary to celebrate the child's birth a few days after it has been born by inviting everyone to go above ground together, to a clearing at night to witness the first time the baby is underneath the nightsky.

FEED A GAZAN FAMILY OF 20 (URGENT)
When I made this post around 3 months ago, Amal (@amalashuor) was close to the amount of money needed to evacuate the three of them. I had to pause activity on this account but I felt hopeful that the campaign was on the right track and making good progress and would surely reach its goal soon. As soon as I logged back on, Amal messaged me.
Now I know I was just desperate to feel better and that the reality is much, much more bleak, and it has been for a while, and it will be so much longer before we can sigh in relief. We must keep our fighting spirit and not falter.
With the amount of money to evacuate but no opportunity to evacuate, stuck in Gaza with not even the bare minimum to survive, Amal has been forced to use her campaign money, which would have been used to get her out of Gaza should the opportunity arise, to feed her family instead.
I know it feels better to put a clear, distinct goal in front of us and to watch the progress rise and to wrap it up in a ribbon and pat ourselves on the shoulder for a job well done, but the reality of the situation is much more insecure and uncertain.
What we must focus on in the meantime:
1- Continue to donate so as not to allow Amal's family to go hungry. Especially with a baby girl whose needs are expensive and in critical demand, the donations must keep flowing in. This is the priority. Note that Amal is not only relying on donations to keep her immediate family (husband and daughter) alive, but also her extended family on both sides. All in all, there are about 20 people relying on this fundraiser to stay afloat.
2- It is my hope that we can raise enough that even with the money withdrawn regularly to feed her family, Amal would still be left with a surplus that allows her to evacuate whenever the opportunity arises. This is difficult to estimate with an open goal that is constantly in demand as they will continually need food and shelter, but I desperately hope we can achieve this as it will ensure their safety for good.
WE ARE THEIR LIFELINE.

This is Mohammed, and his daughter Mona. Mohammed is my friend.
Their home was destroyed by Israeli missile strikes, and like many other Palestinians they're currently living out of tents after being displaced.
Mona has been in and out of medical treatment, as she's been getting many infections over the past several months due to unsanitary and unsafe living conditions.
Every day is a challenge for these two and their family. Cost of living has skyrocketed as daily necessities are in short supply.
If you have anything to spare, even just a few dollars, anything will help them. Please consider donating and sharing.

Black star
.
“Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.”
From The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers
.
.
I was thinking about the eldritch pantheon again and this quote about Carcosa’s black stars—and I was also thinking about the Silmarillion and the Silmarils as horrific objects.
Oddly enough the king in yellow stories fit Maglor well, I think. The book is about tortured artists (and how to drive people mad through art), which Maglor certainly is by the end.
And of course, it’s a companion piece to this anyways. The quote just fit so well.
