Vocal for local
(www.themomskart.com)
The Indian government has asked the local companies to focus on “Made in India”, but also for the promulgation of local brands, manufacturing, and supply chain. For instance, In the Indian fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, particularly in food, Indian brands have been following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘vocal for local’ or localization vision for a while now.
“When the Prime Minister said to go ‘vocal for local’, he meant that products be made competitive vis-a-vis global brands. It didn’t mean that one must only buy products that have a logo ‘made in India’ on it,” – RS Sodhi, MD, Amul
Tumblr media
In the Indian FMCG market, Indian brands have been leaders in ‘Indian categories’ such as hair oils, health supplements, whereas international brands have been leading in ‘international categories’ such as shampoo and toothpaste. Moreover, Indian brands have also been gaining market share even in these highly competitive categories such as toothpaste with their highly differentiated offering.
The trend within the food industry is total ‘vocal for local’ when it comes to consumer demand. in the past, the reason to buy a foreign brand was the limited presence of (Indian) brands. Along with that, there was a concern of trust in the local bands as far as the manufacturing is concerned. Now, there are a lot of national food brands, and they have developed over the years. More than 60% of the brands in the food industry are local brands unlike personal hygiene, cosmetic, and consumer durable segments.
Another instance, ITC Company has also invested extensively in developing a portfolio of Indian brands, with 25 created from scratch. Investments in cutting-edge R&D and state-of-the-art manufacturing drive these winning Indian brands and make progress in terms of trust in the domestic marketplace.
Meanwhile, campaigns to promote ‘vocal for local’ campaigns have been underway. ITC has been undertaking a ‘proudly Indian campaign’ on social media platforms. Dabur has also launched a series of advertisements, as well as special videos, as part of the campaign. Dabur has been highlighting the Indian roots of the company and its “135-year-old heritage of caring for every Indian households’ health and well-being”. Such strong and focused campaigns will lead the awareness for ‘Vocal for Local’, ‘Make in India’, and ‘Local Manufacturing’.
Not challenge-free
“The mindset of free India should be ‘vocal for local’. We should appreciate our local products. If we don’t do this then our products will not get the opportunity to do better and will not get encouraged,” PM Modi said.
There have been challenges in the Indian economy.

Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world.
Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness.
Before you read on, take this Diwali quiz to see how much you know about the festival.
When is Diwali?
The festival is usually some time between October and November, with the date changing each year.
This year, it begins on Sunday 27 October and lasts for five days, with the main day of celebrations taking place on Tuesday.
Where does the name Diwali come from?
The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps".
Houses, shops and public places are decorated with small oil lamps called diyas. People also enjoy fireworks and sweets too, so it's really popular with children.
What's the festival about?
Each religion marks different historical events and stories.
Hindus celebrate the return of deities Rama and Sita to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile. They also celebrate the day Mother Goddess Durga destroyed a demon called Mahisha.
Sikhs particularly celebrate the release from prison of the sixth guru Hargobind Singh in 1619. But Sikhs celebrated the festival before this date.
In fact, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar, the most holy place in the Sikh world, was laid on Diwali in 1577. The founder of Jainism is Lord Mahavira. During Diwali, Jains celebrate the moment he reached a state called Moksha (nirvana, or eternal bliss).

Diwali, also spelled Divali, one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, lasting for five days from the 13th day of the dark half of the lunar month Ashvina to the second day of the light half of Karttika. (The corresponding dates in the Gregorian calendar usually fall in late October and November.) The name is derived from the Sanskrit term dipavali, meaning “row of lights,” which are lit on the new-moon night to invite the presence of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. In Bengal, however, the goddess Kali is worshipped, and in north India the festival also celebrates the return of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman to the city of Ayodhya, where Rama’s rule of righteousness would commence. The third day of Diwali is celebrated on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
Tumblr media
During the festival, small earthenware lamps filled with oil are lit and placed in rows along the parapets of temples and houses and set adrift on rivers and streams. The fourth day—the main Diwali festival day and the beginning of the lunar month of Karttika—marks the beginning of the new year according to the Vikrama calendar. Merchants perform religious ceremonies and open new account books. It is generally a time for visiting, exchanging gifts, cleaning and decorating houses, feasting, setting off fireworks displays, and wearing new clothes. Gambling is encouraged during this season as a way of ensuring good luck for the coming year and in remembrance of the games of dice played by the Lord Shiva and Parvati on Mount Kailasa or similar contests between Radha and Krishna. Ritually, in honour of Lakshmi, the female player always wins.
Diwali is also an important festival in Jainism. For the Jain community, the festival commemorates the passing into nirvana of Mahavira, the most recent of the Jain Tirthankaras. The lighting of the lamps is explained as a material substitute for the light of holy knowledge that was extinguished with Mahavira’s passing.

First, we eat. Then, we do everything else.
I’m not drooling, you are!
Is it just me or does this meal look more scrumptious because I’m on a diet?
I like people who love to eat. They’re the best kind of people in the world.
Live, love, eat.
Made with love.
To live a full life, you have to fill your stomach first.
Carbs might be my soulmate.
All I want for Christmas is...food.
Never eat more than you can lift.
The most essential part of a well-balanced diet is—food!
Dear diet, things just aren’t looking good for the both of us. It’s not me, it’s you. You’re too much work. You’re boring and I can’t stop cheating on you.
Hunger is a good cook.
A little slice of heaven.
Good food never fail in bringing people together.
Eat right, exercise, die anyway.
It’s essential for every party to have cake. If there’s no cake, then it’s only a meeting.
9 out of 10 people love chocolate. And the 10th person is always lying.
The chief ingredient in yummy food is love.
There is no better reward for hard work than good food.
They told me to follow my heart. Guess where it led me? To the fridge.
Skinny people are easier to kidnap. Stay safe, eat cake.
I’m soy into you.
Life is about exploring the pasta-billities.
Grill and chill!
Good people, good food, good time.
I’d hate to lie on my deathbed and think: “I could have eaten that!”
One does not need silver cutlery to eat delectable food.
Food shared is happiness multiplied.
Eat, drink and live free. There’s no telling what might happen tomorrow.
Oh, did you say exercise? I thought you said extra fries!
Another one bites the crust.
There’s nothing more romantic than a serene walk to the fridge.
Life is infinitely delicious.
Breakfast food can cure all sadness away.
What diet?
Dine well and you’ll be able to think well, sleep well, and live well.
Cupcakes are muffins that believed in miracles.
For some reason, food tastes better when it’s somebody‘s treat.
Everything you see, I owe to spaghetti.
It’s not true that money can’t buy happiness. I mean, have you tried buying ice cream? It’s the same thing!
Dinner is one of life’s greatest pleasures.
I’m obsessed with food.
How do I like my eggs? In cake, of course!
Chocolate makes everything better.
I'm so eggcited to eat!
I just want someone to utter these three magic words to me: “I brought food.”

My favorite thing to do at home is to cook.

We all know that cooking our own food, or cutting back at eating out at restaurants is a healthy habit to build.. but why?  Well there are several factors that play info it, namely:
Hidden Calories, Fat & Sodium in Restaurant Food Restaurants utilize various techniques to add flavor to their food, such as incorporating butter, cream, sugar or sodium to enhance flavors in their dishes, which as a result, adds extra unnecessary calories, saturated fat and cholesterol to meals.  Furthermore, to keep food costs low, some restaurants will utilize highly-processed ingredients in their recipes, such as low-quality oils or high-fructose corn syrup.Data shows that adults consume an additional 200 calories on days they eat at a restaurant.  The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) studied data from over 12,000 adults between the ages of 20 and 64, from 2003 to 2010.  Study participants visited fast food and full-service restaurants on two consecutive days.  On days the participants ate at a restaurant, data consistently showed an increase in caloric intake, saturated fat, sugar, and sodium.
Homemade uses Simple & Natural Ingredients Homemade recipes utilize a simple array of ingredients, that are natural, such as fresh vegetables, and minimally processed.  Additionally, processed foods contain artificial preservatives, to keep the food tasting better for a longer period of time.
Homemade is local and fresh You probably hear the mantras of ‘eating local’ or ‘farm to table’ movements all around you, but why is it so important?  Is it actually a thing?  Turns out YES… there are nutritional benefits behind eating locally sourced and locally prepared food.  Restaurants typically source their ingredients from large food distributors who provide products in bulk, and thus the wholesalers themselves are purchasing huge lots of these items from sources all around the world.  These products can take long trips, with many warehouse stops on the way, to actually get into the meal you order at the restaurant.  Purchasing ingredients at the grocery store can still get you products that have been imported, but at least the time from when a homecook takes their groceries home and utilizes them in a meal are typically less than compared to a restaurant setting. On a similar note, restaurants typically prep the main components of their dishes early in the morning, before actual opening hours, and just ‘assemble’ or heat items when a customer places an order.  For example, the vegetables to be used that week can be sliced and diced 6-8 hours before they are even used in a dish.  This causes immediate oxidation of the vegetable / fruit, leading to depletion of its antioxidant and vitamin levels.
Food Safety Did you know that double the amount of foodborne illnesses occur in a restaurant than a home kitchen?  Since commercial eateries are preparing large-scale food operations, and can put out hundreds (or even thousands) of meals a day, the risk of having something go wrong is MUCH higher than that of a home kitchen.  A study conducted by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), entitled Outbreak Alert 2014: A Review Of Foodborne Illness In America From 2002-2011 , found that the largest number of foodborne illness outbreaks were caused by foods eaten at restaurants, more than twice the number caused by foods eaten at home.

For example, when most restaurants use oils or butter with fats, we might cook at home with nonfat cooking spray or healthful vegetable oils like Olive oil. As an example, it is recommended to replace a cup of fat free milk with a single tbsp of vegetable oil, is very healthy.
