It’s the holiday season which means more ads!
Mobile and online shopping has been even more integral for everyone’s holiday shopping experience. But that also means clutter. There was 2.75x more mobile ads served than in 2014.

Apple News Opens Up New Inventory
You may have noticed a shiny new app with your new iPhone 6S purchase or when you updated to iOS 9. The Apple News app is a new way to explore, customize, and aggregate news content for your personal preferences.
When you first open the app, you can select all of the news aggregates like CNN or Wall Street Journal or news topics to help personalize your news for you. According to The Next Web, “Apple News is fast, responsive and enjoyable to use.”
Tumblr media
It definitely helps make consumers lives easier, but it also opens up new advertising inventory. With ad blocking coming to Safari, it’s becoming increasingly important to publishers to find additional mobile inventory. It also helps Apple’s iAd program which has been somewhat rocky from the start. Since ad blocking is in effect from the iOS 9 update, Apple can now corner the market for mobile advertising on Apple devices and charge higher prices.
This decisions could turn off a lot of advertisers, but won’t completely stave off advertisers needing to spend in mobile. With the increasing demand of mobile inventory, advertisers are going to have to learn how to work with Apple to continue growing their mobile marketing.

Twitter Moments: Are They Lasting?
Tumblr media
Last week, Twitter announced the launch of Twitter Moments. The new tab brings together the best things happening on Twitter by showing the top pictures, videos, and conversations. Moments is supposed to help you find top content happening now and anything that you may have missed.
Twitter Moments currently is a consumer product only and doesn’t have any advertising opportunities. But Twitter is testing ways to help integrate advertising support into the new feature.
The new product is a clear attempt to help bolster Twitter’s standing within the increasingly competitive landscape of social. Specifically, Snapchat has been attempting to encroach into Twitter’s space by offering  news updates through the Discover section. Not only that, but Snapchat has recently been releasing Live snap stories that are tailor to inform the Millennial audience about news and world events. Facebook is also always making changes to push to become the source for live events, news, and link sharing.
Twitter Moments might not be the answers, but it’s a step in the right direction. The tab isn’t as easy to navigate as you would assume. you land on the “today” section which curates all of the top content in headline format. For most topics, it’s hard to tell what the content is until you click into  the “moment.” It’s also not personalized like many of it’s competitors. It does solve one problem with Twitter by providing updates on things that you might have missed.

Already Predicting TV’s Winners & Losers
It’s week 3 of the Fall TV season and everyone is already chomping at the bit to predict which new shows will succeed to a second season or be the first casualty.
Peel is the latest data company that wants to predict this for you. Peel is known for creative a smart remote. While most including Entertainment Weekly use buzz to predict a shows longevity, Peel just looks at the first 15 minutes of a show. Specifically, the percent of viewers a show can hold after the first 15 minutes of the premiere. The theory is that if a show holds its audience after 15 minutes, people are more likely to continue to watch the series.
Tumblr media
Only time will tell which shows actually last, but based on the graph below, the ratings success of shows aligns with the “likely winners” that Peel predicts. It especially aligns with the shows that have been lackluster. Blood & Oil, Minority Report, and The Player have all been swirling around any conversation about which show will be the first to be cancelled.

Text It Don’t Say It
It’s hard to imagine that the iPhone less than a decade ago. In such a short time, people have abandoned talking on the phone. In a recent study, all forms of text communication have eclipsed phone calls. People are more likely to choose to text, email, or communicate through social networks than call someone up on the phone.
On a given day, people spend 26 minutes texting, while only 6 minutes talking on the phone. Gone are the days of the awkward phone calls to your date and even your mom. With so many forms of communication, phone calls are becoming extinct.
Tumblr media
Bottom line is: we don’t speak anymore, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not communicating. The level of interaction is at an all time high with 73,000,000,000 texts sent per day.
We’ve now found new ways to communicate beyond the spoken word.

Further proof that Netflix reigns supreme in the streaming video space.
Despite a strong marketing campaign and solid shows, Amazon is still well behind Netflix both worldwide and in the US. Granted Netflix has been around 8 years longer than Amazon Prime.
