Did you ever look at the 1996 VW Harlequin Golf and bask in its joyful colour scheme and think, where's all the colour and whimsy gone in design? What do we lose when joy and individuality and personal expression get crushed away in favour of the most plain and broadly palatable decoration in a world solely focused on profits and resale value? Did you ever get inspired to grasp FUN AND WHIMSY and hold it tight to your chest, and perhaps paint your kitchen like that car and destroy the property value of your house?

Tragic that people aren’t more into shipping Guinan because in my personal opinion there is so much potential. For F/M shippers, options include Guinan/Picard (extremely compelling canon dynamic with excellent chemistry), Guinan/Riker (canonically flirted, fun dynamic), and Guinan/Worf (could be really cute + she introduced him to his favorite drink). For F/F shippers we have Guinan/Ro (fascinating canon dynamic with compelling interactions), Guinan/Troi (they’re both listeners – what’s it like for them to be listened to?), and Guinan/Yar (doomed love between two people who were never meant to know each other). This isn’t even mentioning all the possible crossover ships with other Star Trek shows. Given Guinan’s lifespan, she could have theoretically met almost any other Star Trek character.

The Food and Drug Administration is warning the public not to eat, sell or serve certain Great Value raw frozen shrimp sold at Walmart due to possible contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection alerted the FDA about possible Cesium-137, or Cs-137, detected in shipping containers at four U.S. ports, the FDA said Tuesday in a press release. Testing on frozen shrimp from the distributor, Indonesia's BMS Foods, also tested positive, the FDA said.
However, no shrimp that has tested positive for Cesium-137 has entered the U.S. food supply, according to the FDA.
The FDA is still recommending a recall on all products from BMS Foods that were shipped after the company's shipping containers tested positive for Cesium-137, even though the products themselves have not tested positive.
The following Great Value brand frozen shrimp products should not be eaten, sold or served:
Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005540-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005538-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005539-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027

changing the lingua franca tomorrow and your only options to learn it are 1 try to get by spending a huge amount of time on internet resources 2 pay a large amount of money to educational resources. theres also no native speakers in your city to help you out without you paying 12k usd. you are expected to show profiency in listening, writing, speaking the same as people who speak it from birth in their country if you want to engage with half the content online or hold a job or be accepted into any school. you have to pay 5k usd entering exams proving you speak the language to be considered for a job or school

Something that gets really lost in a lot of discourse is that what we would now call 'going low-contact' or 'going no-contact' with your family used to be so completely within the normal range of familial contact that there wasn't even a term for it. Sure, in the pre-IM pre-social media days some people were calling their parents daily, but I'd wager the vast majority of people were not. Long distance calling used to be quite expensive, after all. If your kid went to the big city to seek their fortune you might hear from them every few weeks, or every month, or once a year, and that wasn't particularly odd. This was even more the case before telephones were common, of course - people would send letters, but definitely not more than once a week and probably a lot less. It was just a normal, accepted fact that you'd hear from some family members who lived nearby often, and some who lived farther away very rarely.
The minimum amount of contact with family that is expected of people in the groupchat-facetime-instagram era is so much higher than at any previous point in history. The ceiling is about the same, since then and now multiple generations often live under the same roof, but the floor is higher by orders of magnitude.
How many adult children who are 'no-contact' or 'low-contact' now would also have been the ones who moved to the city and sent a letter every three months then? Is family estrangement an actual current problem, or is it just an illusion caused by smartphones?

give yourself a sense of place and time. rotate your wardrobe when the weather changes. update your playlists every month. write down three things you did today. do it everyday. message your friends good morning. buy yourself different flavours of tea based on your mood, the packaging, the weather, your heart. save the little paper labels; stick them in your notebook until the inside cover is full of little colored tags. have it hot in the winter. have it cold in the summer. learn to make apple cider, raspberry cordial. spend the summer knitting a scarf for the colder months. spend the winter sewing loose flowy blouses for the summer. open the windows, five minutes a day if it's cold, all day if it's warm. give yourself a sense of place and time and weather.
