It had been a few weeks since his break up. A few weeks since who he thought was the love of his life broke up with him. He had hoped he would move past it easily, but it still felt fresh. Kaan hadn’t known what to do with himself, but he knew he needed to do something. Maybe getting that job would be a good distraction. He sat down on one of the chairs and swiveled his head until he caught sight of Gabriel. Nothing fell from his lips, but he lifted his hand in a simple wave.

“Have you found a place to live in? I never got to ask.” He felt like they had both been doing their own thing and he was curious about what the other manticore had been doing with his time. Kaan was sure that Iapyx was having a much more difficult time acclimating than he was. Hence why he was slightly worried. “How have you been doing?”

“Sorry.” It was Elias’ usual standard reply, even when he had nothing to apologize for. He couldn’t control that often his brain turned to overthinking or immediately imagining the worst possible scenario. And he couldn’t think of one where he had to bring the money home. The thought alone made him feel stressed and nervous, and he slightly shook his head. It wasn’t very funny,” he mumbled, running a hand through his hair with a sigh. “Well, if you can handle Gabriel around you that often — sure, why not?”
“No need to say sorry.” It was one thing Elias did that Kaan wished the other didn’t. He wished the shifter could just get angry if he wanted to. Kaan sure as hell wasn’t afraid of that. If anything, too many of his emotions were out in the open. “Yeah, I mean, he’s one of my best friends. I’ve spent hundreds of years around him. What’s some time in a library?” He turned to look at Elias, his brow raising. “I’m sorry, is there something wrong? I feel like something is wrong.”

Elias looked at Kaan for a long moment before he realized that the sugar daddy part of his answer was probably just a joke. He hoped it was just a joke at least. The shifter could barely support himself, even just the idea of being the only one with a steady income here made his heartbeat nervously. He needed a job as a routine, but he didn’t have the mental capacity for one that paid well enough for two grown up men and two pets. “Kaan, I can’t do that. I can’t do this alone. It’s… that wouldn’t be good for me.” His voice shook slightly under the heavy weight of the admission, then he shook his head a little. “There’s plenty of jobs without customer service. You don’t have to interact with people to have a job.”
Kaan had been joking about the sugar daddy part. To be honest, he was sure that wasn’t likely. If anything, he was going to be the sugar daddy in the relationship. If it was up to him, he would be telling Elias to just sit on the couch all day and enjoy himself. He had more money than he knew what to do with at this point. Being alive for as long as he had meant he had accumulated quite a lot of funds to live luxuriously for the rest of the time he was alive. “I know, I know. I wouldn’t do that to you. I was just joking.” He let his hand run up and down Elias’ arm. “Maybe I’ll ask Gabe if there’s any positions at the library. I think I could be good at shelving things.”

“You can fit a whole dick in there too” Mahendra knew, he and Gabriel had both seen it firsthand. All jokes aside Kaan’s transformation was… Terrifying, in a way. Sent to Tartarus and mutilated into what he was now, not his body but his soul, his essence. Mahendra had long adopted to this way of living in and endless cycle of desire and feeding. Consumption was a way of life and he’d been going through it for over a thousand years at this point. He’d outlived Kaan, apparently. And Vike too. Who was next? Mahendra didn’t want to think about it so he distracted himself with humor instead. “Little disappointing, so now you’re monogamous and you don’t have any interesting monster parts to pleasure. A real shame. Tartarus sounds like the worst.”
“Well, if I can fit my whole fist in there, the dick should be a no brainer.” If anyone had seen it firsthand, it was probably Mahendra and Gabriel. Oh, the antics they had gotten up to back in the day. Kaan just wasn’t the same person anymore, but he was sure it was for the better. That was what he would keep telling himself and nobody was there to tell him different. The only thing he was really worried about was the fact that he was a manticore now. That was the most stressful part about his life currently. Thankfully, Vika was around now to remind him of the old times enough. Plus, they were both manticores. It was easier when he had someone else with him that understood. “Tartarus was the worst. I wouldn’t say being monogamous is all that disappointing. When you find the right one, it makes more sense.”

“You’ll go in the burn book if you do, something something ‘untrustworthy fugly slut.’” Mahendra offered, the incubus was very fortunate that he looked great in pink. Looked great in everything really. “Oh and silver hoop earrings are my thing.” He added jokingly. There was nothing sexy about torture that didn’t have an agreed upon kink about it, but he wasn’t about to turn into a bleeding heart over it. Kaan was out now and truthfully Mahendra preferred not to learn the details about what was waiting for him below. “Your junk didn’t get messed up did it?” Mahendra was asking the hard hitting questions - did Kaan have a corkscrew weiner now? Scorpion tail between his legs. “Do you still need to live off of souls?”
“Come on, Mahendra. I would never do something to get in the burn book. And I wouldn’t allow myself to be called a fugly slut either.” He couldn’t help the laugh that trickled out as soon as the hoop earring were mentioned. Maybe the incubus watched far too much Mean Girls. Kaan couldn’t really say he was surprised. If anything, it related too much to the three of them to the point where it seemed like Tina Fey had written female versions of them. Unfortunately, Kaan was Karen Smith in this scenario, but he was trying his best. “As long as you know I can fit my whole fist in my mouth.” He waved off the question. “Gods, no. You think I would be having this normal of a conversation if it did? That’s the one good thing that I can say about Tartarus. They didn’t fuck up my dick.” He let out a sigh. “Somewhat. The fear of others though. So very much opposite of being an incubus.”

Elias nodded simply as he listened to Kaan, leaning into the other’s side. He thought staying home with the animals wasn’t such a bad thing, but going to work was one of the routines he desperately needed to stay sane and don’t fall into his depression too much. “Yeah, me too,” he offered with a smile. “Do you.. ever want to do anything else? Get a job?”
The pets were entertainment enough for him, but he was sure he could be doing more. When he had been an incubus, things had seemed so much easier. Kaan hadn’t even bothered buying back his funeral parlor. He could have been working there again as a mortician, but he simply didn’t want to. It would have been so much easier to just do what he was best at. He had been living for such a long time though. There was a lot he could do. “I don’t know. This is the first time I haven’t really had anything to do all my life. You don’t want to be my sugar daddy?” He let out a sigh. “I don’t know though. I think I could find something. I have a lot of skills. I’m not a people person though. I don’t think I can work in customer service.”

for: @kaanerdcgan·
She had seen Kaan from across the street, leaning against the column of a store as if it was his job to keep it up. Vika, as sly as a fox had snuck her way over, half masked in shadows until she was behind him entirely, wrapping her arms around his waist and tucking her chin into the crook of his neck, pressing lips painted the colour of a slit throat to his skin— and hoping to make him jump by scraping her teeth there. The manticore parted with a laugh, rounding in front of him to offer a broad, wild smile. “Even hell spat us back out,” she said in delight, fixing blue eyes upon his. “And we find ourselves both in Corinth. Perhaps we should give this city a run like we used to—“ Fingers became claws, and a pointed touch tapped at his chest. “For old time’s sake.”
It had been quite a while since he had seen Vika. Kaan could remember she had been someone he considered a friend. He was sure that was still the case now, but things were certainly different than before. Her arms wrapping around him didn’t cause a jump, but a sharp inhale. A familiar feeling ran through his veins as her teeth ran across his neck, a short laugh following. “Ah, well, you know I would enjoy a trip down memory lane.” Her claws moved towards his chest, his own making an appearance to caress her cheek. “Where shall we start?”
