when i got into my first musha fight, i was nervous because i thought i have to make choices in battle. was slightly relieved (and slightly disappointed) when it never happened on common and hero route. didn't expect to actually do it here, on nemesis route like, this was the exact thing i imagined when suzukawa's tsurugi screen showed up for the first time. it's actually really fun....makes the battle all the more engaging

re: kanae falling in love with kageaki; i really cant blame her. besides the (gestures generally) everything about him, if a man said he's dedicating his life and death to me, and willing to die by my hand, i'd fall in love with him too. yes, i do realize how deranged that sounds

i recall a similar scene in ichijo's route. at that time, i was extremely confused and intrigued. i knew that kageaki had feelings for her, but didn't know what it is that's holding him back from admitting it. now that i'm familiar enough with one of muramasa's theme, "abandoning your humanity to reach your ideals", a similar scene happening in kanae's route is no longer a surprise. reading this still made me melancholic though....the emotions is much more subtle in kanae's route, meanwhile in ichijo's, it was intense. though funnily, it was never properly addressed in ichijo's route. meanwhile here both the narative and the characters acknowledge kageaki and kanae's romantic feelings for each other 🥺

very interesting that in ichijo's route, kageaki's resolve was to oppose the concept of justice to the very end, telling her to not call her fight 'just' as it would lead to more strife in the future meanwhile here, he accepts kanae's vengeance as true 'justice'

this light convo between kageaki and kanae, with only the sound of violin in the background makes me anxious because i know what's coming....i can feel my heart beating faster

i want to die actually. this whole monologue made me fucking weep. this is what i thought of him ever since i saw him suffer for the first time

OKAY i gotta admit, i'm liking the rokuhara generals more than i thought. the writer just had to make the oppressors to be likeable characters huh.... also i was 'AWWW'-ing when kageaki couldnt accept the mission to assasinate the shogun since that means he has to kill ichijo <3

fuckkkkkk the scene where ichijo wanted to kill kageaki actually got me crying...goddamnit

muramasa is acting so cold rn </3 i'm sorry queen but if ichijo doing the killing alleviate future (mental) burdens for kageaki, i dont see why he shouldnt do that

jfc. i feel like the r/pe scenes get more violent as the story progress. you really should be cautious liking male charas in this game, they might turn out to be a r/pist on the next scene everytime a side female chara w a sprite is shown, i know they'd prolly get r/ped

some of these male seiyuu have such nice voices...suzukawa ryobu, the ouji and yagyu guy, their normal speaking voice are relaxing to hear...and when they go batshit, their rage sounds so believable

i'm fucking crying, masamune is so different than what i imagined. HE'S LOWKEY-HIGHKEY KINDA DUMB. i should've expected this since he was a small village commoner from the kamakura era

love the contrast between ichijo and kageaki's fight...hers was funny and high-spirited, something that fits in a shonen manga. meanwhile his was calm and calculating, something right out of those b&w samurai movies. i'm quite fond of the rokuhara shinkage-ryu's headmaster ngl

minato kageaki is one horny motherfucker, but so is ichijo i guess. i thought that kiss CG i saw on google was from the end of the route, not the middle. glad to know there's a possibility there's more coming :^) kageaki looks so hot there

i'm sorry but i found ichijo's declaration that she'd kill both rokuhara and GHQ so funny. everyone in the room was agonizing over what to do and she just came and said "doesnt matter, i'll fuck all of them up" like its nobody's business. god i love her

hooooooo boy i got goosebumps from their fight with the oyumi's nine dragoons. muramasa and masamune...demon and hero...working together. what a sight, i feel like i'm becoming more chuuni as i progress

ahhh i've been wondering why hikaru havent needed to follow the covenant. its not that nidaime muramasa is special, its just that hikaru kills without the concept of hate and love

man. i'm so ??? at kageaki's inner turmoil. you got what you wanted, no more killing innocents. what else do you want? you're driving me nuts man. is he destined to be an anti hero from the start? is that why 3 out of 4 of his love interests are morally gray? the fuck is this

i feel so sorry for ayane :// i think i'm already at the middle of her route, yet kageaki still isnt entirely on her side, nor does it seem like he has any affection for her. maybe i'm too used to otome plotlines.....

i have A Lot to say about hikaru's preaching to kageaki, but i'm gonna wait until i can type my coherent thoughts to avoid sounding like a self-righteous idiot

oh my goddd what is this.....WHY AM I ROOTING FOR ICHIJO MORE THAN KAGEAKI NOW. everytime the pov switch back to kageaki i feel disappointed by the things he say, even though i know he's TECHNICALLY right aaaaaaa

that scene with doshin's page is so powerful. i'm so excited to see ichijo's character develop. i love it when a good & idealistic character is given a harsh reality slap, but they REFUSE to stop being good. the lesson in reality just made them wiser in pursuing their goals

 1. this game tends to switch pov and it gets confusing bc the ui doesnt identify the current speaker for non dialogue texts... 

2. i usually reread scenes i'm confused about with the rewind function but this game doesnt have that

here's what i think of chapter 2:

nice introduction of the girls (cept for chacha ig), kageaki's personality, and his dynamics with each of them. so far i'm liking all three girls...though i do favor muramasa and ichijo more than kanae. muramasa's dynamic with kageaki is the most intriguing so far, which i honestly didn't expect? i really thought their relationship was gonna be the usual master-servant trope but this is so much better. the distance and anger between them really gives that umami flavor LMAO 

i knew kageaki would have to kill the emishi girls eventually but damn the writer really had to make it so painful to read. now i'm wondering whether that choice of whose onigiri kageaki picked determined which girl would wake up in the middle of his killing...if so, that's fucked up man

i worry about what sorimachi is planning to do after witnessing that....i still find it weird that midorikawa hikaru, who i associate with ikemen charas, is voicing a slimy old man lollll. overall, a nice chapter. ukyo's motivation is kind of...weak...imo but i guess there's people out there who's like that? maybe? i also found suzukawa to be too out there tbh. hoping the next 'villains' to have more grounded motivations. now onto the next chapter!

this whole conversation almost had me in tears...i see both ayane and kageaki as similar people but their approach to life are so different because of their respective backgrounds and age...my interest in ayane's route just peaked :")

i'm nearing the end of chapter 4 and i have to say, the writing quality shot up greatly. it has always been good, but it got even better somehow. i still need to finish all routes to make judgement, but so far i feel like fmdm's writing have even more substance than fatamoru...

not gonna lie, i dont like hikaru's personality and her dynamic with kageaki. i was expecting wholesome *platonic* family bonds between them but it looks like she has a crush on him. i get that they are foster siblings but eugh can we get back to the present time please

screenshotting all these to read again later and do some research. i wish there was a book explaining all the references and historical background of this game...i don’t even know which part is made up and which part is real

no. the blame lies on the pride that you people have. especially the old master. why the fuck didn’t he bring the doctor sooner if he WANTS hikaru to be the next head? throughout this chapter, i thought "your idealism doesn’t seem practical" everytime a character speaks of their views

jesus christ. i have a lot to say about chapter 5. as much as i love kageaki and want to know more about him, i dislike flashbacks. when i realized the entire chapter is going to be exactly that, i groaned internally. not to mention i didn’t end up liking hikaru as a character and her dynamic with her family. when its revealed that she’s sick and won’t be speaking for a while i felt relieved. as the story progress though, i felt more and more immersed by the characters and their circumstances. one of the reasons why i enjoy the writing of this game so much is because the writer took his time to explain the inner workings of the characters. how they think before taking action, their views on the world, their ideals. i've played almost 40 visual novels already, and not a lot of them do this for some reason. it’s so interesting getting into the headspace of a (fictional) character who is so different than you. my heart broke reading about what happened to mizuhi. i didn’t expect to actually like her this much, or to ship her with kageaki for that matter...her tragedy affected me the most out of all the other horrible shit that happened. on that note i can’t help but go ??? at hikaru's reasoning to follow the law of might. there are most likely important things that haven’t been revealed yet about subaru and her husband, so i should withhold judgement for now. off to ichijo's route <3
