Artist Statement:
Throughout the the last semester I focused on improving my painting technique. I have done many paintings of a life model as well as of myself in the moirror. During workshops I learned about colour theory, composition, palette knives techniques and how to make sketchbooks using tools avaiable on campus. I have also learned about the painting styles of two artists Willem De Kooning and Lucian Freud. I made a power point about Willem De Kooning and I was introduced to Lucian Freud during colour theory workshop.

Here I was painting using black ink. In the forst picture I dissolved small amount of ink with water to make it grey, and used it to create the shadows. In the second painting I focused only on creating negative spaces.

Painting
In this colour study workshop we were painting fruits on the coloured paper background. We created shadows by mixing complementary colours.
At the second part of the workshop we were painting work made by artist Lucian Freud by trying to re-create exact colours he used.
Above the painting from the book and below my copy. The painting is called 'Eli and David'

Here I was using a pallet knifes for the first time. I have been istructed to paint myself in the mirror.
I wasn't used to painting with those tools at the time which is why i had problem with painting the facial features.

Last monday before the easter break I was painting from a live model in the morning. It was very similar to what I have been doing previously during the workshop, but this time a light was casted on the model to create a shadow.l

Tuesday
On tuesday warkshop we were shown a presentation on different automated machines that are used in moder day for painting. We were also introduced to a 3D printed pendulum tool that was capable of spinning 360 degrees. We attached markers and brushes to it so that it was creating marks whenever it was spinned. The pictures below show how the tool looked like and what marks it left on a paper. Although it is important to mention that I was not the only one to use it that day so not all of the circles made by me.

I spend the first week of the painting elective in the Eoin's group. We were first divided into group's and had to each brainstorm ideas for the upcoming project. As a group we attached paper to the wall and tried to draw blindfolded. Then we drew and wrote on it whatever we were thinkig abut at the time.
