I watched the 2011 and 1998 adaptations, I think I liked the 1998 one more (even though the 2011 one had ethan hawke as starbuck <3). Also not explicitly moby dick but I did enjoy In The Heart of the Sea! It's about the Essex shipwreck that inspired moby dick. It has a surprisingly stacked cast including chris hemsworth, tom holland, and ben whishaw (who actually plays herman melville!). It's not like a Cinematic Masterpiece but i found it entertaining :)

Got a day off and thinking about going on a Moby Dick movie marathon. What’s the best adaptations out there fellas?

One morning you cut yourself while shaving.

There is nobody behind you in the pocket mirror’s reflection.

You turn fast, and the razor is like a Kukri knife in your hand.

Guys. I can feel it already. THIS is the year. This is the year that Jonathan Harker will go on his business trip with no issue. Just a lovely train ride through Europe where he collects paprika recipies for Mina, meets some friendly, living people looking to buy properties in England, and then returns home safely.

May 3rd, Jonathan Harker’s journal

(Mem., get recipe for Mina.) I asked the waiter, and he said it was called “paprika hendl,” and that, as it was a national dish, I should be able to get it anywhere along the Carpathians.

I had for breakfast more paprika, and a sort of porridge of maize flour which they said was “mamaliga,” and egg-plant stuffed with forcemeat, a very excellent dish, which they call “impletata.” (Mem., get recipe for this also.)

Recipe blog casually interrupted by nightmares and the howling of wild dogs. I’m sure it’s nothing.

What I think: wow I can’t believe the word “hark” means “listen, pay attention” and a major role of the Harkers in the story is to notice important details, record conversations, gather information and otherwise defeat Dracula by listening and paying attention

What I say: my favorite part of Dracula is when the Harkers said “it’s Harkin’ time!” and harked all over the place

Jonathan getting excited by the sudden power of a lot of money, AND how by having a lot of money everyone let's you get away with crimes, tracks really well since he has only experienced the safety net of being a middle class lawyer with the fortune that Mr. Hawkins left for him, and Mina for a few months.

It's so funny to read him go "Fuck yeah to being rich and having cash!"
