Believe that things can suddenly change for you. Do not worry about how and when. Just deeply believe in the possibility of a new outcome. It can all be so different than what you are currently experiencing. Nothing is ever final. Allow that to bring you peace and give you hope.

I just finished relocating my blog from the free (ad supported) WordPress to a hosted installation of it. I had several new pages written already so they didn't propagate anywhere as specific posts, but they're up there either way. (It's now and forever at jmecannon.com)

Tomorrow is my birthday and it's a bit surreal. I have done more of "what I want" for 3 months now but I still have weird flashes where I think I have to "go to work tomorrow" (aka join a standup meeting at 9, etc). It still feels a lot like an extended vacation.

Queries are slow and all being rejected thus far. I've processed a lot of feelings about it over the last month and I know it will continue to Suck when they come in negatively. But I'm considering the bigger picture more lately - what else would I want to write and try pitching for a debut? What other characters may be in my head ready to chat? And what about self publishing or seeking independent editor and design consultancies rather than doing it solely on my own?

I just want to have my story be shared with readers, and it's a struggle to balance the commercial aspect of publication with the individual readers of the book (and others who light up when they hear about it) - clearly there is always some market for vampire and supernatural creature stories, and people like it when they read it - but alas, it's not gaining traction from either my query or the sample chapters I include when requested. It's also "too long" for a debut in some opinions, although those always come with caveats for fantasy (it's Urban Fantasy, technically - supernatural makes sense to people when I say that, but it's not a genre in the real world, apparently).

That's about where I'm at. I shall persevere. I wrote a short that I'm quite pleased with and hope more will come as easily. It's not available anywhere yet but will eventually land on ko-fi as a membership reward (as soon as ADHD allows me to figure out how to make a PDF download slightly secure with proper attribution). Bye!

Highlights of my first visit to Lakeside, before I forget

- what's on your neck? Is that blood? Oh it's chocolate
