I'm Loving The Fragrance You Inherit

I finally had time to catch up with this over the weekend, and I am seated! This feels so different from what we usually get, and it has my attention.

We have a middle-aged lesbian, who seems to have lived a celibate life after her big love married a man.

She's become a mother after a one night stand, and it seems like she and her son have a really solid relationship. He even wants to introduce his girlfriend to her! Sakura gets her home together to welcome the young lady.

Unfortunately for Hirose Sakura, her son is dating the daughter of her former love.

The resemblance is so uncanny that poor Sakura had to call in her gay bestie (played by Takeda Kouhei, who we met in Old Fashion Cupcake).

Toki, her son, is quietly thinking about his completely absent father, and decides to look at old photos of his mom. He realizes that she had a friend who looks just like his girlfriend.

However, it's been over 15 years. Mone doesn't look the same, but she's still beautiful.

The kids conspire to get their moms to meet. It goes well, but our poor lesbian is left with so many problems:

How does she continue to be a good mom if her son is dating her old flame?

How will she broach the subject with her son about her sexuality when the time comes?

How will she manage a potential mom friendship with Mone, given their history?

I'm having a blast! I love that Hirose's coworkers seem friendly and professional, and I'm so excited about Hirose having a chill gay bestie. I'm looking forward to seeing sexuality and potential romance explored from this direction, especially because all of the active relationships in this show have started in such a good place. Seeing middle-aged romance involving moms was not on my list of dreams for this year, and yet here we are.
