Quick sketching experiment. Shade a basic egg, then ‘carve’ a face out with the eraser. I like this method!

My wife and I were drawing from the same reference from The Art of Avatar book, and we decided to turn it into a challenge. Which one’s better: left or right?

Trying some figure drawing. Googling for medical sites / doctors get you some good reference somtimes! The reference for this was from some site about back therapy. Trying a new charcoal-look in Procreate.

Make YouTube useful! I spend way too much time on YouTube, but sometimes I try to sketch caricatures while I watch. I find it extremely helpful because I have a built-in time limit. Also, I refuse to pause, so I can’t revert to copying—I have to caricature. Also, I use the iPad notes app, so I have a very limited set of tools.

Playing quickly in Designer for iPad by @affinitybyserif. I’ve never really done vector artwork before, but that app makes it easy to pick up. I love being able to swap pretty seemlessly between the vector and raster personas. Can’t wait to play with it for something more in depth than just a sketch!

Pencil style drawing in @procreate. It’s from a picture of my wife. She makes even just scratching her head look beautiful! I whipped out my camera and she started laughing. It was just one of those cute, silly, perfect moments that happen in marriage.

A bit more exploration for the main character of a children’s book I’m thinking about writing. Loosely based on my son.

Arm and leg study. Figured I’d start labeling them too. I remember from a psych class that naming something makes it more concrete in your brain. I figure if I actually learn the names of the bones, it’ll help me learn the forms.

Some more skeleton sketches. I’m trying to study articulation points in the body. It’s amazing all the “hinges” we have in our body.

Studying anatomy. Our bodies are so fascinating! As a Christian, I’ve realized that drawing can be an act of worship. The more I learn about how intricate our bodies are, how light works, how we process visual information, the more I’m fascinated about the design of everything. Learning art has really opened my eyes. Sometimes I feel like I’m learning to see again.
