The Botanical Studio: Planting

The garden was planted in terraces to represent the base, heart and top notes of the classic perfume structure. The striking mono-planting of each species was evocative of the expansive and singular planted perfume fields of Grasse, Provence. Within each planter the simplicity, fragrance and beauty of the single ingredient was celebrated.

The Botanical Studio: Construction

Pre-Show we were on site for two and a half weeks building the Botanical Studio garden. The garden was created for Crabtree & Evelyn and the build team were Garden House Design. Before the garden was planted up the structure had to be put in place. This involved the framework, deck, planters, furniture, tank and glass studio. It took a lot of precision and a lot of heavy lifting...

Pre-Show filming

We have had a great time filming with the BBC for the pre-Hampton Court Flower Show footage this week. The first evening was spent on Brighton beach, much of it sheltering from the rain. But when the sun eventually came through the dramatic sky line made it worth the wait...

The next day we filmed at the Aquatic Plant Centre where we are carrying out the tests on our seaweed tank. We received a fresh delivery of Kelps, Wracks, Sea Greens & Dulse from the Cornish Seaweed Company, harvested the afternoon before and started test No. 3. This time using a carbon filter to try and keep the water clear.

Kelp... Our structural seaweed. At this point smelling delicious. Now to try and keep it this fragrant for 10 days...

Our last location was Borde Hill Gardens in West Sussex. With a history of plants gathered by the great plant hunters the gardens are exceptionally beautiful.

Seaweed Tank Testing

We had a great day up at Aquatic Design Centres workshops, testing out our seaweed tank for Hampton Court Flower Show. The workshops are set in beautiful woodland, with coral mountains, a glass tank graveyard and a turtle.

Hampton Court 2016 x Crabtree & Evelyn

We are thrilled to have designed a show garden for Crabtree & Evelyn for Hampton Court 2016. A garden to captivate the senses, ‘The Botanical Studio’ combines the heritage of Crabtree & Evelyn with their modern day vision. The Hampton Court Flower Show runs from July 5 -10th 2016.

Urban Parklet Design: The Habana Libre Garden

Evoking the feeling of sitting in a square in Havana, a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the fast paced city, The Habana Libre Garden offers a lush oasis in which to sit back and let the music flow over you.

The space can be transformed by the user from seating to dance floor, as they interact with the dynamic nature of the cubed furniture, which pulls up from the floor as required.

Within the garden references to 3 eras of Cuban Architecture can be found... Colonial, Art-Deco & Modern (1950s). The flexible furniture represents the transformative dynamic of Cuba at present.

Design to be shown at the London Festival of Architecture crit evening, on the evening of June 24th 2015 at City Hall.
