Day 4 -
Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market.
Took boat ride tour to see traditional Thai house
At night we went to Discovery Mall again for dinner. We order Tom Yum Goong, this was different because it didn’t include cream. So the flavour was so much more fresh and fragrant.
Green curry was alright, more soupier than I was used to.

Day 3 - We wanted to visit the Platinum Mall and Pratunam Market in the morning which was about 4-5km from our hostel. Didn’t want to take the BTS, we started walking.
First stop, breakfast of deep fried bananas from the side of the road. Then we continued and tried the pork skewers for the first time, it looked rather sketchy but we went with it anyway. We’re still alright.
Google Maps took us to the wrong intersection again, and we ended up walking another 2km (raking up the mileage on our legs!).
When we got to Pratinum Market it was 8am, we thought that Pratinum Market was an early morning wholesale market, but it seems like it hadn’t yet opened, some vendors were still setting up. Or have we missed it?
So we crossed the street to Platinum Mall (it’s  6 level fashion mall), which didn’t open until 9am. The only thing that opened was Starbucks and McDonald’s so we had no other choice but to buy a drink from Starbucks to cool off. We ordered a Acai Berry Frappucino. It wasn’t real Acai berry obviously, just berry jelly. 200 Baht ($8) - worst spending ever.
Platinum Mall finally opened at 9am, vendors still setting up and the aisles were barren. Foodcourt was on level 6 and we still didn’t have a proper breakfast, so we decided to have a look. The foodcourt was huge! So many different dishes and stalls. Again, you’ll need to buy the food court payment card, because each stall wouldn’t accept cash. Pretty good system actually, wouldn’t work back home in NZ though.
We ordered chives cake, which was made out of rice flour - chewy, flavourful and so cheap - 50 Baht for all of that.
We tried Papaya salad, we asked for 1 chilly but that was enough! Unbelievably spicy!
We shopped around and by that time it was already 1pm and it was time for lunch. We had Tom Yum soup, first one this trip and it was DELICIOUS.
At night, we visited the Rod Fai Night Market 2 - probaby my favourite market out of the whole Bangkok because it was food galore! We ordered Pla Pao (salt crusted fish) - best dinner by far; it came with a side of fresh cabbage and Thai basil leaves and vermicelli and 2 kinds of chilly dipping sauces. 250 Baht for that. Plus another 50 Baht for Papaya Salad.
Rod Fai Night Market was also the first market that we have been tto that sold insects; crickets, beetles, deep fried frogs. No thank you.
We did however, go for some interesting Thai coconut pancake crispies (really yummy) and some coconut rice pudding cakes. cheap and cheerful.

Day 2 - It was only 7am and realised that we were way too early to get into Wat Pho or the Grande Palance, which only opens after 8am.
So we headed towards the Flower Market, thank goodness we found more food stalls because we were still hungry.
Firstly we had the Chakue, which is deep fried bread (normally eaten with Jok/Congee). Then we had this really interesting coconut pudding, they were crispy on the outside and pudding-like on the inside. I hadn’t realised this when I took a bite and everything splurted out and dribbled down my shirt. I continue to walk around like nothing had happened.
The flower market was like none other, I wish New Zealand has something like this. Fresh flowers everyday, yes please!

Day 2 -  7am - First breakfast, we were walking towards our first destination which was Wat Pho and a lady was selling some dishes outside of her restaurant.
50 Baht (NZ$2) for a selection of 2 dishes - we chose fried vermicelli noodles and spicy Larb Gai, which is chicken mince with basil, coriander and chilli. It was extremely spicy and left us sweating.
Yeah I sweat, I have no shame.

Day 2 - Last night we slept for 12 hours. Slept at 3.30pm and woke up 3.30am, thank you jetlag. Did some work for a couple of hours and by 5.30am we were ready to set off on our first adventure for food and temples.
At 6am, we stumbled across a wet market. A fresh fruit/vege/meat market for locals. It was bustling, motorbikes weaving in and out, stallholders preparing for the day ahead, people unloading stock from the trucks and setting up.
We really wanted some mangosteens and this lady was kind enough to pick out the ripest of the bunch. IT was 25 Baht p/kg (that’s $1 p/kg). To give you some perspective, Auckland sells these for $14 p/kg. You bet we ate all of that for breakfast.

Day 2 - Pad See Ew, second meal at Siam Centre, Level 4.
Eugene and I always share food, so we always get one dish at a time so that we can savour the flavours seperately.
This Pad See Ew was not oily and had this amazing charred flavour. It was 80 Baht (NZ$3.20).
R&G Yum Factor - 8.5/10

Day 1 - First meal in Bangkok. We were famished and needed food ASAP. The closest food we could find was at Siam Centre, Level 4. What better way to start the food adventure in Thailand with some good old Pad Thai and fresh coconut?
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality, authenticity and price of the dishes available.  The Pad Thai noodles were so flavourful, more shrimp flavour, the right amount of tamarind and lime was essential.
There was a wide array of dishes, from Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Italian - what do you expect, it was a food court.
We’re still in search of the best Pad Thai though.I’m sure we will come across one soon.
Flavour Rating - 9/10

Day 2 - Ice Kacang and Thai Iced Coffee. Just remembered that drinks and desserts are ladened with sugar syrup/condensed milk. Although delicious, we’re gonna have to start asking for less sugar/condensed milk in our drinks. You don’t wanna know how much sugar they put in there, why do you think it’s so delicious?!
R&G Yum Factor - we give the Ice Kacang a 6/10 - too sweet and too much colour and not enough filling.

When you're jetlagged and there's margarine as thick as 2 slices of cheese, you eat it anyway.
