Join us on Wednesday, November 25, 8 p.m. with Dr. James Rietveld on The Goddess Isis, a "Pay What You Wish" Zoom event.
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/125421435891
Isis proclaimed: I am nature, the Universal Mother, Mistress of all the Elements, primordial child of time, sovereign of all things spiritual, Queen of the Dead, Queen of the Ocean, Queen also of the Immortals, the single manifestation of all gods and goddesses that are, my nod governs the shining heights of Heavens, the wholesome sea breezes. Though I am worshipped in many aspects, known by countless names ... the Egyptians who excel in ancient learning and worship call me by my true name...Queen Isis”—so spoke the goddess according to Apuleius, in his novel The Golden Ass written in the second century CE. As all encompassing as this proclamation may sound, the goddess Isis was perceived by the Egyptians, then Greeks, and finally the Romans in different ways over the march of centuries, as she constantly evolved to suit new religious and cultural movements. On Tuesday, November 18 at Ipso Facto at 7:30, we will investigate this magical goddess, who went from the wife to the deceased pharaoh in the Egyptian Old Kingdom to Universal Goddess during the Roman Empire! And still her legacy goes on.
Dr. James D. Rietveld is an adjunct professor at California State University, Fullerton, CA and Cal Poly, Pomona, CA in both History, Anthropology and Religion. His specialties include the History of Christianity in the Early, Medieval and Byzantine periods, New Testament Studies and Greco-Roman religions. He received his PHD from Claremont School of Religion and is the author of another book entitled "London in Flames: Apocalypse 1666."

Join us on Wednesday, November 11, 8 p.m. for Dr. Rietveld's virtual lecture "Artemis of Ephesus," a "Pay What You Wish" Zoom event.
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/125418360693
Delving into personal religious perspectives and relationship to the Ephesus’s sacred geography, Dr Rietveld will discuss how this belief system permeated the daily lives of the Ephesians via material culture they left behind. Although understandings of Artemis Ephesus changed as Christianity spread, her legacy survived as goddess of protection, material prosperity, and guardian of virginal chastity.
Artemis Ephesia was a figure in constant flux, with interpretations dependent on the particular time period and audience viewing it. Artemis Ephesia had an interesting relationship with the city’s sacred geography, where her worship permeated the daily lives of the Ephesians . As Christianity spread,  Artemis Ephesia eventually succumbed to the forces of the new religious perspective, yet some aspects survived. Ultimately, Artemis Ephesia, was a goddess of protection, her sacred space understood as a place of asylum for individuals seeking refuge; a bank for those wishing to secure their material wealth, and a shrine for virgins desiring to protect their chastity. Via the Via Sacra, Artemis’ role as protective mother extended beyond the Temple of Artemis to the city itself, and throughout the Greco-Roman world via the Via Sacra and Ephesian Letters. Along with the images of Artemis, the Ephesian letters carried her perceived magical protective powers even further, all along the shores of the Mediterranean and even to the very ends of the Greco-Roman world.
Our lecturer, Dr. James Rietveld has written a definitive book "Artemis of the Ephesians"  which is available on Amazon.

Blazing across the night sky on November 17 this year will be the magnificent Leonid Meteor Shower.
Did you know that meteor showers (AKA shooting stars) offer a special opportunity to enhance your magick?
Join us on November 12 to prepare your wish or working.Eventbrite tickets are Pay What You Wish for this virtual event:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/123770407621
When doing such spellwork, one can call upon deities associated with asteroids and use the astrological associations, in this case Scorpio, and the power of the waxing crescent moon.
As the moon grows, there is forward motion, a strength one can utilize in magick.Working on goals right in front of you, encouraging positivity and faith, and an invitation to act boldly are all part of the waxing crescent power.
Fridays during the waxing moon are the best time for to welcome love into one's life. With shooting stars, what is recognizable to everyone is wishing, which is easily done by putting your intent into it before it flies out of sight.
Candle magick at this time can elicit omens, and jar spells made from shooting star water (via a mason jar of plain water left out under the stars) can be useful for long term workings and wishing spells.
The new moon on November 15 guarantees darkness for the night of the meteor shower on November 17, and the bulk of the meteors, perhaps 10 to 15, are expected to fall in the hours just prior to dawn.Leonids are famous for storming ever since the first great meteor storm of modern times during in November 1833, which famously effected the understanding and development of scientific study of meteor showers.
Meteors themselves, falling stars, have been worshipped for thousands of years.
The Greeks used them in veneration of their gods, and they appeared in the ancient legend from Mecca via a gift of a meteor to Ibrahim by angel Jibril.
Native Americans also wove a legend of meteors in the tale of “Coyote and the Dancing Stars
.”Today meteorites are used to enhance working with other worldly beings, while they also ground and gives us the ability to connect with spirit.
By traveling in the atmosphere, meteors embody all five Wiccan elements, giving them power that almost guarantees success.
With this much powerful energy, you can't afford to miss this workshop opportunity! Join us!

JOIN US THIS THURSDAY NOV 5, 7:30 FOR A CROSSROADS MAGICK WORKSHOP!
You've heard the myth of Mississippi blues legend Robert Johnson entering into a devilish pact at the crossroads, in exchange for musical genius. But did you know that you can use the power of the crossroads for prosperity, clearing obstacles, making decisions?
Join us on Thursday, November 5 via Pay What You Wish Eventbrite tickets: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/123785003277
Since ancient times in many cultures, crossroads have been seen to have great magical significance, a place of spirits.
Ancient Greeks believed that Hermes ruled four road crossways and Hecate the three way junction.
An 11th century text describes how Mercury and Odin were traditionally honored on crossroads.Crossroad magick is also part of Hoodoo tradition, especially with Papa Legba, gatekeeper to the spirit world.
Also in Catholicism Archangel Saint Michael the protector, St. Simon Peter, St. Anthony Padua, St. Florian and Lazarus the Beggar, were connected to the crossroads.
In Brazilian mythology crossroads were places to make offerings to the Orishas and connected to the mythos of the headless mule, the devil, the Besta Fera and Brazilian werewolf.
In the 1926 film "Faust," Mephistopheles was summoned at the crossroads, and in the popular t.v. show "Supernatural" crossroads demons were a recurring plot device.Crossroads are said to be unhallowed ground by some, peopled by restless ghosts, vampires.
Folkloric traditions specify that this is where murderers, suicides and the unbaptized should be laid to rest, and some tell of workings for gold finding, spirit conjuring, sacrifices, even necromancy.
They can also be places to leave offerings, burying spells, spirit communication and perform candle magick with a makeshift altar on the ground. Some spellwork particular to crossroads include skill learning, to attract lovers, acquire property or wisdom, or leave or dispose of a petition.
Also crossroads can be worked for removing blockages, bringing prosperity and abundance, honoring the dead, making wishes, finding direction and making choices. If collecting crossroads dirt for a spell at home, it is traditional to "pay for the dirt" leave behind something like coins at each corner of the crossroads, as is common in witchcraft tradition, thanking nature for what is taken.
If this sounds interesting, you won't want to miss this online class with Jennifer Morris via Ipso Facto on Thursday, November 5, 7:30 p.m.
