I love the difference, not just generational, between Tamika Flynn and Alejandra Nuñez, Ronnie Sharma, and Nanako Barnes (aka The Library Tweens aka The Triangle).

When Tamika defended herself and the others in the Summer Reading Programme from the librarian they did it out of need and a love for reading. It was traumitising for her, forcing her to feel like she needed to grow up fast and protect her town from such things in the future when nobody else seemed to be doing so. She and her armed militia spent hours training out in the desert each day. They didn't want attention, they wanted action. It didn't matter to them what people thought of what they were doing and the pushback they received from Strex only pushed them on further. There were some theatrics (Tamika's speeches) but mostly they just acted. Now an adult, that lifestyle has worn down on Tamika and prompted her to look for alternative ways to get through problems other than pure violence. She still wants to help the town and takes her council job very seriously, but she wants to move forward from her past.

Meanwhile, Alejandra Nuñez, Ronnie Sharma, and Nanako Barnes seem to be mostly thinking of themselves whilst claiming to think of the town. What they did is no more less impressive, of course. They still do want to help, but they're doing it for attention. They've named their group, they have a TikTok where they record everything to 'synth music and a Japanese pop song' and learnt how to fight from anime, they even basically pretended to thank Tamika for her past and present work just to put that on TikTok for likes and views. They do everything theatrically and say all the 'right' and heroic things so they can look good. They have a merch store and are trying to set up an LLC so they can continue doing it and theoretically getting money from it as they age. It's questionable whether they actually care about the town at all, maybe they don't, or they do and they've just been taught that these kinds of selfish actions with intent to make money is right because they're so deep In It.

The contrast is stark.
