it wasn't supposed to be like this. in her head, when she confronted the other girl, things would have gone in a different direction, and anna would be the one winning. instead, tashi was performing just like she did in their matches—a hard game to beat. while they were usually at least neck and neck for most of the match, now anna felt like she had no chance of recuperating from this situation no matter how hard she tried. her tongue ran over her lips absentmindedly as the other spoke, frown etched onto pink lips. she could tell the implication of tashi's words; she could tell that tashi didn't believe a single thing anna had said, and that almost made her squirm on the spot. it felt weird to feel the same type of tension she felt when they were on the court.
"you have enough eyes on you already, don't you think? i saw those boys at our match." venom laced through spat-out words, an accusation. although, she wasn't sure what exactly she was accusing tashi of. "you liked our game that much that you had to focus on slandering my name instead of actually talking about it? how flattered am i." sarcasm laced through her words, no mention of just how right tashi was. when they were on the court it was like magic, like they had a quiet understanding between them, like every part of their bodies was familiar with the next movement the other would make. it wasn't like that with just any of her other competitors either; tashi understood the game deeply and truly and played it exactly like that. it was one of the reasons why—albeit anna would never admit it to tashi's face—she was one of her favorite players to play against and to even lose to. hell, she was one of the only ones she lost to anyways, and that was a good sign of tashi's skill.
she paused before speaking again, eyes scanning tashi's face before landing on her eyes. "you know, i also resent the fact that you only think it was a good game just "at first." i may have lost but that doesn't change how incredible it was out there. how incredible we were."
The words that never left Anna had Tashi’s head tilting slightly. What is it that she’s holding back from saying. This is the most they’ve ever really spoken and she could feel the tension growing by the second. But she loved it, always finding ways to compete even if it is with just words now. The sound of the racket hitting the ground made her eyes finally reach Anna’s again, squinting slightly. “I don’t open my mouth without thinking first so yes I do know what that implies Anna.” She responds as her arms finally uncross themselves. The summer heat made her skin feel sticky, a glow all over her exposed flesh as she rolled her neck for a second. How interesting was it that no one else is around to witness all of this.
Suddenly training alone didn’t look as interesting as speaking to her rival, eyes roaming her figure before they landed on . “I wouldn’t mind the extra pair of eyes to see my success over and over again. Funny how you just stumbled upon me…” Tashi responds a shrug. It felt strange to see Anna stumbling over her words usually she’d be shooting her a killer glare, making Tashi smirk right at her in return. “I’d speak highly of you if you treated me better actually, I might even compliment just how good our game together was at first. We understood each other so well and it was almost fun but..” now it was her who became quiet but it was on purpose. She knew Anna thought of those moments many times already and didn’t need it repeated to her what everyone witnessed.

i think for anna there's only ever been one person worth competing with and that's tashi, that's the only person she feels is worthy of actually calling competition. everything else -- everybody else -- is too easy.

she's like a deer caught in headlights, eyes wide and her throat feeling as if it were stuffed with at least ten cotton balls, making it impossible to formulate a proper response. "i—" she chokes out, her breath caught in her throat as she feels tashi's gaze on her. what the hell was going on? why couldn't she speak? and why did she feel herself shrinking under the intensity of the brunette's eyes?
it takes her a moment to realize that she's still holding the tennis racket. only when she feels tashi's eyes on it does she remember its presence in her hand. her fingers slowly unravel their hold, letting it fall limp to the ground with a gentle thud. it's probably only a matter of seconds as everything happens—minutes at most—but to anna, it feels like hours. just like her matches with tashi, it was as if they went somewhere different—somewhere outside of the court. in that dimension, whatever it was, time ran differently. she should have known better than to expect their conversations to be any different. two people who truly understood tennis for what it was (and what it wasn't) could never have a normal conversation, even when it wasn't about the sport.
a deep breath is taken as she attempts to regain her composure, a flush of red on her face that she thinks is better left unacknowledged. "any better than i am? now, i'm sure you're smart enough to understand the implications of that." she lets a small smirk form on her lips, eyebrow raised toward the other girl. she knows it's stupid, but she's trying anything she can to gain the upper hand again. or at least, equal footing. "you'd love it if i did that, wouldn't you? i don't waste my time with your interviews—i just... i just stumbled across this one and thought you were being ridiculously unprofessional with your statements." she prays the other girl won't notice that she's stumbled through her sentence clumsily. prays it won't give her away.
Tashi couldn’t imagine being caught in such a state. Yeah from time to time she’d yell out of pure excitement when she’d win but she had yet to throw any tantrum, alone or with a crowd. “You care a lot from what I just heard.” She responds noticing just how different she sounds. Tashi would never apologize for speaking the truth, now if she made up some ridiculous rumor about her she’d understand. “If that’s how you took it… all I know is that I refuse to lie to make you look any better than you are.” Her eyes roamed Anna’s figure, landing on the racket. “So do you stay up at night watching me in interviews?” She tilts her head as a playful grin spreads across her lips.

&. 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐬.
( this is basically just a very self indulgent list of various fluff, angst, and suggestive themed dialogue sentence starters. )
❛ i could keep you safe. they’re all afraid of me. ❜
❛ i’m trying to fix your hair, so hold still. ❜
❛ your heart is beating so fast right now. ❜
❛ promise me you’ll still be here when i wake up. ❜
❛ you’re not as bad as everyone says you are. ❜
❛ i thought you’d like some company. ❜
❛ clean yourself up. you're getting blood all over the place. ❜
❛ here, give this a try and tell me what you think. ❜
❛ you can kiss me, you know. ❜
❛ come back to bed. ❜
❛ you look good like this. ❜
❛ working together again, it’s just like old times. ❜
❛ how is it you always know what i need, huh? ❜
❛ you’re lucky you got away with only a scratch. ❜
❛ i can’t imagine losing someone like that. i’m sorry. ❜
❛ you know you can always talk to me. ❜
❛ the only one who gets to kill you, is me. ❜
❛ so, what do i owe this pleasure? ❜
❛ ah, so you aren’t heartless after all. ❜
❛ may i have this dance? ❜
❛ it’s okay, you can touch me. i won't break. ❜
❛ enemies make the best lovers, you know. ❜
❛ hold still. this might sting a little. ❜
❛ we can't keep doing this. ❜
❛ you look like you've got something to say. ❜
❛ just relax and let me take care of you. ❜
❛ thought you’d be lighter without all that blood. ❜
❛ i had it under control. you didn’t need to do that. ❜
❛ everything looks so beautiful from up here. ❜
❛ you treat all your ladies like this? ❜
❛ well? how do i look? ❜
❛ can’t sleep? ❜
❛ do you mind if i smoke? ❜
❛ i’m scared of ending up alone. ❜
❛ i don’t think i’ve ever seen you smile. ❜
❛ how long has it been since you've slept? ❜
❛ you are losing my interest, and that’s very dangerous. ❜
❛ i’d suffer hell if you’d tell me what you’d do to me tonight. ❜
❛ you look really pretty right now. ❜
❛ i’ve never cared for anyone the way i care for you. ❜
❛ i’m not wearing any underwear. thought you’d like to know. ❜
❛ just a few more stitches and you’ll be as good as new. ❜
❛ i’d say we make a pretty good team. ❜
❛ i want you to forget this ever happened. ❜
❛ i'm here for business — not pleasure. ❜
❛ if i didn't know any better, i'd say you were jealous. ❜
❛ you'd look better down on your knees. ❜
❛ fine, keep acting like you hate me. ❜
❛ kiss me again. ❜
❛ are you asking me out on a date? ❜
❛ just sit there and look pretty and let me handle this. ❜
❛ you okay? caught you staring off into space again. ❜
❛ well, i do feel better now that you're here. ❜
❛ i'm not drunk enough for this. ❜
❛ why is it whenever we see each other, you’re covered in blood? ❜
❛ i was wrong about you. ❜
❛ the first time i met you, i had no idea you'd mean this much. ❜
❛ you gonna be a good girl / boy for me? ❜
❛ i’m not afraid of you. ❜
❛ books mean more to me than people anyway. ❜
❛ i just wanted to say thank you for protecting me. ❜
❛ how about a kiss goodnight? ❜
❛ i don’t have time for distractions right now. ❜
❛ you shouldn’t be out here by yourself. ❜
❛ if i have to think about one more thing today, my head will explode. ❜

chappell roan sentence starters ft. "the rise and fall of a midwest princess"
if i didn't love you, it would be fine.
here comes the excuses that fuel the illusions.
i'd rather feel something than nothing at all.
we've done this before, and i don't need it anymore.
it's never just coffee.
my friends call me a loser 'cause i'm still hanging around.
i thought you thought of me better, someone you couldn't lose.
you said, "we're not together." so now when we kiss, i have anger issues.
we're knee deep in the passenger seat, and you're eating me out. is it casual now?
is it casual now?
i know what you tell your friends.
dumb love. i love being stupid.
dream of us in a year, maybe we'd have an apartment, and you'd show me off to your friends.
it's hard being casual.
i hate that i let this drag on for so long, now i hate myself.
call me hot, not pretty.
it's comical, bridges you burn.
if karma's real, hope it's your turn.
it's hot when you have a meltdown.
you're getting called out 'cause you're running your mouth.
people say i'm jealous, but my kink is watching you thinking i care.
people say i'm jealous, but my kink is karma.
wishing you the best in the worst way.
i'm using your distress as foreplay.
it's hot when you're going through hell.
you're hating yourself, i'm feeling myself.
you're getting pissed off, it's getting me off.
do you picture me like i picture you?
i'm too scared to say half of the things i do when i picture you.
everything is fine, i guess we could pretend.
we didn't cross a line, but ever since that day, everything has changed.
whatever you decide, i will understand, and it will all be fine. just go back to being friends.
nothing good happens when it's late and you're dancing alone.
this is what i wanted, this is what i like.
i've been a good, good girl for a long time.
can't be a good girl even if i tried.
i kinda wanna kiss your girlfriend if you don't mind.
i love a little drama, let's start a bar fight.
everything good happens after midnight.
let's watch the sunrise.
should've listened to your friends.
so let's say it's working out.
um, can you play a song with a fucking beat?
i just want you to make a move.
i just wanna get to know you, guess i didn't quite think it through.
fell in love with the thought of you. now i'm choked up, face down, burnt out.
why don't you come over?
i like what you like.
i heard you like magic, i got a wand and a rabbit.
baby, let's get freaky, get kinky, let's make this bed get squeaky.
not overdramatic, i know what i want.
sometimes i scare myself, but i can't help what i can't help.
so shame on me and shame on you. i fantasize what we would do.
some good girls do bad things too.
can we drag it out and never quit?
you give me guilty pleasure.
touch me, baby, put your lips on mine.
could go to hell, but we'll probably be fine.
if it hasn't happened yet, then maybe you should go.
too hard to find reasons to stay. even true love could not persuade.

it's like the world around her stops when she hears tashi's voice, her racket hanging limply in her hand as she looks at the other female. it's humiliating, she thinks, to be caught like this. her usual poised demeanor replaced by the image of her acting like a toddler who hasn't received what she wanted. "i don't care what you do, duncan." she wishes she sounded more secure, that there wasn't a hint of doubt in what she was saying but there it was and it killed her inside. especially when it feels like tashi is seeing right through her and reading every single thought that's crossing her mind. even more so when she looks so disappointed at her, that's the part that really burns her, the disappointment on tashi's face. "i just care about you making me sound like a fucking loser."
The sound of her name leaving Anna’s lips made her head turn fast, eyebrows knitting together. Out of all the sounds she usually heard during her walks this sure as hell wasn’t one of them. Maybe Tashi should be flattered that Anna thought of her at all, worried about anything she said when it regarded her or not it seems. “You really like keeping up with what I do huh?” She shook her head as disappointment took over her features. Her arms crossed over her chest as her eyes burned into the girl.

there's a pause as thin fingers take hold of her tennis racket, a pause that's followed by explosion. racket hitting the ground over and over and over again until nothing is left but broken pieces of its material and it's strings are hanging loose. "tashi duncan is a fucking bitch, fucking going out to the fucking media and acting like she's so much better and like i don't have a reason to fucking hate her, i swear--- that manipulative little bitch, what a piece of ---- fucking hell. fuck her!" it's a tantrum and she's aware that it's a tantrum. acting like a child because she lost a game but then again to her it's always been more than a game. so, her string of curses continues as she beats the pieces of her equipment to the ground. there's no care as to who may be around, if there was maybe she'd have kept her mouth shut. then again, anna mueller has never been one to know when to keep her mouth shut.

@hqlfbloods there was nothing that jess had learned to hate more than snowy days; maybe it was unfair, but they always reminded her of what had happened in blackwood pines. the doctors had told her it was all in her head, that the group had somehow gotten mixed around and suffered from group hysteria and mass hallucinations, but she knew that wasn't true. she knew what she had seen. lips pursed together as she saw mike across the way, feet shuffling underneath her as she moved closer to him, the familiar crunch of snow beneath her boots announcing her arrival and movement next to him.
"um, it's been a year since---" she cut herself off; there was no need to finish her sentence. she was sure he was just as aware of it as she was.

drew lounged against the cabin's wooden exterior, tapping her perfectly manicured nails against the surface. boredom adorning her flawless face as she spoke. "so, spill it. what's this mysterious favor you're asking me for? am i supposed to play the role of your date to save you from eternal loneliness or something?" she arched an eyebrow, lips forming a curious pout that beckoned for more information. "you've presented me with a proposal, but it's lacking in the details department. is this your attempt to avoid looking like a perpetually pathetic and kicked-in-the-ass puppy? no offense, but sometimes you kind of resemble a sad little mutt left stranded on the side of the road. and sure, camp sucks, but i doubt it sucks that much even for people like you."

she asks them how they're doing and lets them lie. but they don't need to dwell on it as they walk home together, acting as though no lie has been told. hell, she can even practice her method acting, pretending that being with them doesn't feel like drowning. "it's nice to see how you've been doing," she says, even though she knows it isn't true.

"duh. of course, you miss me, but guess what? i do not miss you. actually, i'm the opposite of missing you, which is not missing you. in fact, if you froze, then i think i would eat you just because of how much i do not, would not, and could not miss you at this very moment." pj's eyes narrowed at the other women, and it's easy to see the gears in her head turning. anyone who knows her well enough understands that this is dangerous; it means that in the next moments, something is going to be either said or done that will have josie groaning. so, let us count down: one... two... thr—thump! a bright smile worn on pj's face as she stares down at josie's body now lying on the floor. "would somebody who missed you do that?"
@insidefantasy (josie + pj!)
they were fighting about something. josie didn't really remember how it had escalated. one moment they were texting early in the morning and the next she was banging at pj's bedroom window, looking exasperated, waving her arms up in the air. she mouths something, but she knows for a fact that the other woman can't understand her. but she's desperate, knowing deep down that maybe it was a little bit too far to make a joke about isabel being her new best friend. but in josie's mind, it was warranted when pj had been the one making comments about her love life.
the window finally opens and josie is predicably out of breath. she clears her throat, letting herself be face to face with her friend as she climbs through into the room. "took you long enough. what if it was cold out there? what if i froze because of you?" she's dramatic. it was a hot summer day, but her point still stood. "i was screaming my heart out and you didn't hear me." josie dramatically sighs, walking over to the bed and flopping down on it. "i missed you."

@whatsbehindthefacade liked for a starter.
"come on, bender, you know it was just a joke. she didn't mean that," a frown forms upon perfectly tinted lips, courtesy of daddy's credit card and the new shade she picked at macy's. "st this point, you should know you're more than just a way to piss off my parents. besides, i think they're so used to you that they don't even really care anymore." It's not entirely reassuring, she thinks, but it's the truth. it was like something stramge shifted in her parents' minds overnight. instead of competing for the title of the more concerned parent, it became a game of who could act the most supportive. pathetic, she thinks, but it's a welcome change from the days of them trying to get her to dump bender by hurling every insult in the book at him.

@wehavefoundthestars liked for a starter.
"i'm thrilled that you decided to join me. doing this alone would have been okay, but it's definitely better with you here. i appreciate the company and having someone to talk to is always wonderful, especially when it's you," she says with a warm smile, her hands gently gathering flowers from the garden nimbly avoiding any thorns. a little prick here and there doesn't bother her too much – it's just part of the process, but she knows how to prevent too many. "i only need a few for the table centerpiece for tonight's dinner and i'd rather handle it myself than ask our maids to do it. it feels more personal, you know? besides, i don't want them working any harder than they already do. they put in so much effort during the day; they don't need any additional burden, much less when it's something I know I can take care of."
