Assignment 9: in-game perspective
Tool(s): Procreate, Unity
Description: A mock-up for in game - kind of like a visual novel, point-and-click adventure with horror game elements (lol)
Feedback: Colors are still throwing me off - simplification of things to make cohesiveness would help - layout feels more akin to mobile because text is big and icons are big
if i had time, i would animate the active icon (eye) and the heartbeat monitor lol,,

Assignment 8: Character Design (part 3?)
Tool(s): Procreate
Description: a graphic poster (i hope this passes as key art) of briar. different components show parts of her and her story. left side: showing how a spirit culmination of people/a person who died in the mazes below is helping briar survive (two hands over her emptying heart, poppies -> sleep as the spirit has to take over her body functions completely) center top: a portrait of briar. magic wards are on one of her arms. center middle: a ritual circle completed by two hands. one of the bandages completes the circle. center bottom: penrose stairs, reflective of her lost and stuck state roaming the mazes & mines under the city. also, similar to ouroboros (the title of the story). all fairly important characters in the story have some sort of ouroboros situation. she's not a main character unless i make an all star cast idk. right side: one of her earrings and the ritual dagger she holds. compared to the left side, which is briar overriding her fear/distaste of spirits in order to live, the right side is symbolic of her self-imposed duty to investigate. (both items are from people she considers authoritarian, even if they're long gone by now) string throughout: she's an investigator, but becomes a part of the mystery she was investigating (unknowingly).
Feedback: probably use the same brush throughout, it's pretty clear i switched brushes with different textures halfway. linework could be cleaner and the same size. alignment could be cleaner.

Assignment 8: Character Design (part 2)
Tool(s): Procreate
Description: A character sheet with various expressions and poses.
Feedback: I did not think of layout when making the sketchbook expression assets and then the fullbodies. Besides making a lot of rendering mistakes (am a little woozy pardon me) - I think I should have put more interactions with her and other people (and the spirit, I guess by extension). Briar is a pretty lonely person, though, and I do like how that's kind of shown here.

(blacks out and wakes up in a cold sweat) week 9 or something
tried to portray briar pre spirit and right after making a contract with the spirit - not necessarily a DID situation, but moreso she inherits the spirit's memories and is influenced by the spirit's (calm) personality. still a girlfailure though

silhouettes! went with a more basic one (left) because the other two were a bit too refined for the character I was going for 🧍

(might be reworked who knows lol i sure don't)
Assignment 8: Character Design (part 1)
Tool(s): Procreate
Description: a first pass at Briar, a budding private investigator of a one-man P.I. firm in the city. Armed with self taught exorcism knowledge and a will to prove everyone in her life that she can amount to something, she digs to the heart of a big organization's corruption. She, however, gets lost in the mazes below the city and gets fatally injured. Desperate to survive, she puts her prejudice against spirits aside and makes a blood contract with one of them to fully possess her, allowing her to stay alive until rescue comes. The longer she waits, the less her own spirit is present in her body.
Her outfit is cobbled together, a modification of some more uniform clothing she was given as a child. She tore her skirt for a tourniquet. The boots were gifted by her old mentor.
Feedback: while there's some things that I tried to indicate her attempt at being 'cool', there's not much that indicates her status as an investigator or detective. which is a little hard because i can't just toss her into a sherlock holmes outfit and call it a day, and i'm not sure how i could flavor it in this world. also not really critique but the blue spirit flame around the bone really reminds me of sans undertale. also the blue tint in her eyes which signifies the spirit. maybe also showing visual difference in how the spirit holds themselves vs her would be good. also her eyes feel very sans coded. okay now i can't take this seriously

ritual bowl in an attempted style of hollow knight . or just treat it as a painted asset in the general style of semi realism?

Assignment 7 (part..3?) : Environment Design
Tool(s): Procreate, my singular last braincell
Description: A blood ritual space after a subfaction of the Bloodrunners decided to release a lot of destructive spirits within the space. This is one part of their attempt to perform a coup on the older generation/leaders of the Bloodrunners. They'd ideally perform an attack of similar nature on other important places simultaneously.
The ritual circle, the incense in the center, and the talisman are all aftermath of a ritual to exorcise the destructive spirits once the job was done.
Feedback: not criticism but this is the first time i photobashed (the rocks at the bottom, painted over em) and i'm pretty happy with how it turned out. ok criticism next: the values are all pretty muddy, and i should have done secondary lighting for the actual ritual stuff to solidify its position in the space.

Assignment 7: Environment Design
Tool(s): Procreate
Description: colorized, cleaned up (ish) version of a ritualistic space. In an attempt to be rebellious, the newer generation of Bloodrunners that has begun to run the area are tacking up things that look like they actively disrupt the surrounding architecture - mostly to reflect the state of and spite their elders, who have been running the operation in a superficial manner (corruption, no central values, etc.)
Feedback: a lot of elements could have been cleaned up more, and colors/values more dramatic to really hammer in the lighting. This space was hard to really show people "living" in it since it is meant to be a more sacred space. The combination of brutalism and traditional Chinese elements was meant to emulate some sort of Chinese cyberpunk (think: less futuristic and more wires/lost and/or archaic technology fused with runic magic) but it is less apparent here? if that makes sense lmao

Assignment 7 - Environment Design
Chinese retrofuturism (for lack of better words i don't think retrofuturistic is actually what i'm looking for)— urban fantasy/light elements of sci-fi
Exorcist/spirit integrated city at the end of rebuilding after a natural disaster (comet impact??? unsure)
A world where currency is blood pacts, coin, and memories
Government sponsored exorcist guild’s official blood pact area — ornamental, ritualistic, slightly brutalist
Tool(s): Procreate
Description: Two layouts of an official, ritualistic area where people make blood pacts/oaths. Though the place feels sacred, the current exorcist guilds are superficial in their belief, making the place feel more hollow than hallowed.
Feedback: Top down perspective is difficult to show wall ornamentation - though it shows scale, details are lost (hence the block out). The values could also be a little more clear. Visual design is not as strong as it could be as well - the identity is unclear, and the inspirations feel as if it were drawn from one aspect (Chinese temples) rather than multiple (brutalism, etc.)

Yes, your worldbuilding is thorough, your geography meticulous, your plotting elaborate, and your characterisation nuanced, but answer me this: is there a fucked up little guy?

Week 7 - Logo (Worldbuilding)
logo for a memory firm in da world - you can trade and sell memories here. memory is a currency but exclusively legally used for government dealings and exorcism sub factions registered as government entities. because the city is kinda like retrofuturistic(???) traditional Chinese elements, I really wanted to use cubes - hence the initial explorations . But they didn’t really register as memories I guess. Unless you’ve played nier automata lmao
also, for family secrets and stuff: they often hand down memories instead of keeping a written record. there's multiple ways of doing this; direct memory transfer is only allowed for government factions so a lot of families not under the government who can afford it will go to memory basin artisans instead and get a basin crafted to hold and/or transfer memories.
MC of the world comes to these places mostly on work errands, but never for themselves.

Expand first image for 10 combos! Assignment 6: Making Many From Few
Tools: Procreate Description: a Picrew styled game where you can assemble different plating + dessert + garnish combos Feedback: retrospectively, the checkered is bothering me because all the other objects don't have an outline but that specific object does. I think the contrast on the white plate and the checkered for certain garnish and desserts also don't have a good clear contrast, so maybe outlines will help in that regard.
