the thing about 911 in my own personal opinion is that it is so. hm. lacking in the je ne sais quoi. like it’s very very very straightforward they have never even heard of the word subtlety even as a concept. you thought supernatural was bad but 911 is worse. you know. so at least when someone on tumblr interprets supernatural in the most batshit bad faith way. well even then i often do have to say myself yeah i guess they have a point. i guess if you squinted and tilted your head to the left and only thought about these eight out of 300 episodes i can understand how this is supported by the text. 911 you can’t do that. you see a post that’s like hey taylor kelly was a bitch. and you go. really? why do you think that? and the post says ummmmmm well i wanted her to be. and it’s like right. like we talk a big game about supernatural putting dean in johns jacket to announce that there are Themes this episode but the truth is that 911 will be like hey here is an episode about rage. it’s called rage. and the scenes? yeah they’re of people experiencing rage. people on tumblr will be like wow this show is groundbreaking and meanwhile 911 itself is like yay! this next one’s called earthquake<3 like can we please be serious about this

tbh in retrospect i think bucktommy was the funniest relationship in the show. two grown men spend six months dating each other because they both really want to fuck some other guy but can't admit that this is the guy they'd rather be dating. the kind of behavior you might expect from like. the only two queer teens in a bigoted small town. not two men in los fucking angeles with whole ass careers. and mind you the whole time said other guy is completely unaware that this is going on and is just kinda thinking "my best friend and his boyfriend :) time to hang out with my best friend and his boyfriend :)" while carrying out an emotional affair with the doppelganger of his dead wife that will unbeknownst to him result in him spending a month living in el paso working as an uber driver.

I've seen 911 season 8 being described as a nothing burger two or three times now and I think that's honestly the best metaphor.

Yeah, gimme a full 18 episode season, but without character development, consequences for anyone's actions, emotional payoff, well written plots or wholesome firefam feelings. 1 extra main character death though. Thanks.

There’s actually a really simple answer for why they put so much work into this just to have next to no payoff:

911 is trying to split the difference between being a procedural and a serial and it is failing at both due to consistently poor quality writing and bad show running

ok ive solved my feelings: i liked the episode because it was a good base for fanfic. i liked the ideas, thought the execution was fine, and i know that the beautiful geniuses on ao3 can and will take it to heights that tim minear couldnt even dream of

i really think that 911’s main problem right now is the fact that they’re losing what used to be an exquisite balance between a silly goofy emergency show, a big emergency show and a soap opera show. i guess it’s both on tim and on abc but now that we’re clearly set on rebranding as a mostly big emergency show, it’s almost like they’re convinced they can get away with half-assing every single thing about the emotional layer of the show, the one thing that really used to anchor its audience. and the sad thing is… they can. unless someone wakes up and puts things back on course, i think they can totally get away with four or five two-parter massive emergencies per season which are going to bring them substantial views and keep the audience alive. then the silly goofy layer will get even goofier. and the character plot lines, any sort of emotional development, becomes completely secondary. the way it usually is in an actual full blown procedural show, which 911 didn’t use to be but it’s whatever

like. no kim mention. no further closure on the shannon front. no reasons given for why chris actually stayed in texas for as long as he did. no further choices made just for joy. no eddiechris talk about moving to texas. no conclusion to buck moving into eddie's house. no complications from eddie buying a house in texas. no new conflicts or conflict resolutions with eddie and his parents. no eddiechris talk about moving back to la. everything's just back to what it was. they put my man through the wringer and for what. he's just right where he started. that's some next level torment nexus shit.

sure ok. why did eddie even go to texas then? why set up that he’s gonna choose to stay with the 118 (not even like. a buddie thing specifically) for himself because thats where he belongs and then instead he’s forced to stay by CHIMNEY??? why did bobby die?? why did athena sell their house? why did eddie go to texas?? why was eddie going to texas buck’s entire storyline for the season? why chekovs el paso fire employee who abandoned them for a wife in another state? why did eddie tell buck he wasn’t going to make him move out if he came back and then he moved out?? why did bobby die in the middle of a season of rat disease?? why the silly and flippant tone after bobby died? why the 4 minute funeral? why the theme of people returning? why the grahambobby parallel except he lives??? why did athena take bobby’s body to minnesota? how is maddie already giving birth?? how long was eddie in texas? why didn’t chris ever express any desire to move back to LA ?? why did hen do literally nothing all season?? why did bobby die? why did eddie go to texas?
