am I the only one rooting for him to win bc I want him to get development outside of season 1 and want him to have a character outside of being OJs little buddy

I find it so absurd that most people who will say that Paper should not make it far in the competition/not have competed at all due to the fact he is dating OJ and OJ already won a season are the same individuals that complain about Paper’s entire personality being OJ. 

You are contributing to the problem. Paper does have a personality outside of OJ, admittedly not as much personality as deserved, but he still does have it; not to mention that an educated guess from the way AnimationEpic seems to be going with Paper’s arc is that he will grow and learn to be his own person and have traits that don’t revolve around his boyfriend. 

Some people just refuse to see this though, and then go and cry that his only thing is that he’s dating OJ. While making this short little rant I’ve tried to remove all bias I have with Paper being my all-time favorite II character, but it would be so good for him to go far in the season along with Pepper because character growth and improving yourself doesn’t simply happen overnight. 

It takes time, and if he’s competing in the season he gets to spend more time independently instead of with OJ and also get more screen time so it can really be shown to the audience—especially the ones that are saying he has no character and thus is not enjoyable to have on screen—that there are things going for him that are all about him or at the very least not about OJ.
