Taking my revised blade design for a spin. After some destructive testing on my previous design, i’ve gone and fixed a couple of structural flaws, as well as making the blade a bit longer (and in my opinion, prettier). #balisong #balisongtrainer #balisongtricks #design #knifemaking #butterflyknife https://www.instagram.com/p/BuwkoKigMTF/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16gsanwehanp2

First look at my prototype for a balisong trainer. This one is laser cut acrylic, the transparent material is really handy when it comes to reviewing the design. The hardware is only very basic (as this is only a prototype) but the final version is to be made in aluminium with steel and brass hardware. #prototype #prototyping #balisong #butterflyknife #balisongtrainer #lasercutting #design https://www.instagram.com/p/Bul2q3xAEGx/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1l7y47puhl93b

First time making a tutorial, this time on a combination i posted a video of a while back. I’ve posted a video of it on YouTube as well for better ease of viewing. Since I don’t think I’ve posted any pictures of this one, here it is. A working photo of a duck themed butter knife i made ages ago as a gift. A fun little project - simple, but effective i think #duck #knife #butterknife #knifemaking #blacksmithing #blacksmith #steel #handmade #handmadegifts #metal #metalwork #metalworking https://www.instagram.com/p/BseJwmXAuPb/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1e2z3d9ank6cp

Starting as i mean to go on, making and learning new things alongside lovely people. This odd pair of arm warmers made by @jazzprisciandaroart and I. Reminds me of a point I heard made about blacksmiths and armourers, namely that to be a good armourer you must not only be a good smith, but also able to sew and work with fabric/delicate materials.
Rarely is a discipline or occupation as simple as the one skill we may think of as encompassing it.
Men like to believe theyd be great in apocalypse scenarios but they dont even know how to sew

OH MY GOD whyyyy did no one tell me you’re supposed to send thank-yous after interviews?? Why would I do that???
“Thank you for this incredibly stressful 30 minutes that I have had to re-structure my entire day around and which will give me anxiety poos for the next 24 hours.”
I HATE ETIQUETTE IT’S THE MOST IMPOSSIBLE THING FOR ME TO LEARN WITHOUT SOMEONE DIRECTLY TELLING ME THIS SHIT

I’ll go ahead and extend that the making of things in general, particularly “useless” or “pointless” things. Making, even for the sake of making, invariably calls for a range of very transferable skills.
Never mistake making things that aren’t primarily functional, for a waste of time. The problem solving skills you will develop will alone be highly valuable, not to mention what you gain from becoming proficient at working with your given tools and materials of choice.
All the time we use trivial tasks and games to teach skills, because we understand that the end product needn’t be of practical value when the process of making it has taught us something.
Even if the things we make are themselves pointless, does not mean that it was pointless for us to make them.
“Who says Cosplay is unproductive?”
I come from a family who really disliked me cosplaying for a long time, saying it is “unproductive”.
My success in national competitions and event invites had started to change their minds. But what ultimately convinced them was… me helping fix shit around the house.
Today my dad’s shoe went all weird and crumbly. He was going to have to buy new shoes or new sole pads… But then I went and traced some foam, layered it and padded his shoe back up, for free.
My mum has weak finger joints. The doctors were going to charge her $200 to make her a brace. But I saw what the brace was like, and casted her one with Plasti-make, again for free. She had never struggled with her joint again.
I’d like to spread the message to parents out there: Cosplay is not unproductive. It is a form of creative problem solving. (How do make something work?)
Please encourage your kids to do something creative. If it’s making outfits from fictional characters… Then please let them. Watch them become jacks of all trades and develop their hands on and DIY skills.

I find cooking relaxing, therapeutic even. Baking, similarly, is a relaxing hobby, and one that’s fun to share with people. However, my favourite way to bake is to take an almost scientific approach. I find it fascinating to experiment with the ratios of ingredients, one by one, by making batch after batch of whatever it may be (much to the delight, or sometimes dismay, of any who share a house with me) until an ideal recipe is reached, gaining an understanding of what each component does. That being said, this is the first brownie recipe we tried and i must say it was pretty damn tasty...

Doug: when you say accidentally...
Alana: it was deliberate, 100 percent
Doug: Aw, you guys threw a party for me? That’s so nice of you-
Alana: I accidentally put poisonous gas in one of these balloons, so if any of them pop, we might die.

The void appears to like teeth. The glow cloud drops dead animals, which i can only imagine have teeth. Maybe the void and the glow cloud could come to some arrangement regarding the state of supply and demand for teeth?

Gods of people
Where does the line sit between a normal human person and a god?
Any sufficiently advanced technology can be indistinguishable from magic, and i wonder, is the same true of humans and gods, where power is the deciding metric.
If that’s the case, how powerful must someone become before they are indistinguishable from a deity? What must I conquer to pass the turing test of deification?
