A manatee rescue that I follow responded to a call about a female manatee with two calves because one of her babies had been injured by a boat strike. The entire family was temporarily relocated from the wild into a wildlife rehab facility for the injured male calf to undergo treatment. While there, vets noted the female calf was significantly larger than the little injured male. They did genetic testing and determined that big sister calf actually wasn’t related to the other two manatees at all! She was in fact an orphan calf that the adult manatee had found and taken in to care for right alongside her own little one.

Wild to think this manatee calf was literally adopted and nobody would have ever known if it weren’t for random coincidence and human curiosity. Every animal that you cross paths with in life has a fascinating personal story that you’ll only ever catch a glimpse of (if you’re lucky).

Help a Trans Fem and her Dog!

I need help getting to work this week and getting my dogs flea and tick meds. I have had to put my dogs meds on the back burner due to my job messing with my hours, resulting in low checks.

I need to get to work until I get paid later on this week about $60 and my dogs medication is $77. All around I need $130 for my dog and I to get through the week.

people so desperately want to be heir to the martyrdom of trans women it's insane.

you can say "hey transfems have specific problems specific to us that people who are not transfem do not experience" and they will go "oh so my problems aren't real?"

tme people see transmisogyny-affected and transmisogyny-exempt language and bend over backwards to either make up some reason why they shouldn't be in the latter category, or why the distinction shouldn't exist at all in the first place. (as if we're the ones making the distinction, rather than describing structures of oppression that already exist and are enforced upon us every waking moment)

people just don't wanna comprehend that oppression isn't a binary, that you can be oppressed in some way, and still have a position of power over others that you benefit from. other people can and do have it worse than you and you benefit from that whether you want to acknowledge it or not.

call it "dividing the community" all you want, the community is already divided. insisting we're all equal isn't gonna change that. that doesn't make your problems less real, but you don't have to be at the top of the hierarchy to be above someone else.
