I wrote a poem earlier today (posted on my @iamvenusaviv page), and I’m happy to say I finally had a good cry and I feel so much better. I was brought up in a family that doesn’t like to talk openly about deep matters of the heart. They mostly use sarcasm and shallow humor to mask their deep emotional pain. I get it. It’s hard for Black women to show their emotions in a world that doesn’t recognize us as human beings with needs and tenderness and softness. It takes a lot of courage to open up and allow yourself to be vulnerable, when toxic patriarchal unsafe spaces have painted us to be hard, angry, lazy, hood & ratcheted. You have to actively create the safe spaces you need to bear witness to your soul, and be unapologetic inland authentic. We are strong black women, and we are also sweet, soft, delicate, kind, compassionate, empathetic, empathic, clairvoyant, soulful, wise, we are the Sun, the Moon, the stats. WE ARE Mother Earth. We are GODDESSES. And holding it in the worries of the world AND our own life challenges only creates problems - our issues live in our tissues. If we bottle our emotions, they can wreak havoc by stifling the flow of energy. Gunk gets jammed up in our chakras (our energy systems), which then become frazzled and out of whack. We MUST allow our emotions to FLOW. It’s vital to our physical, mental, and emotional health. And our guides in the spiritual realm are ALWAYS there to help. Today I heard a sad song with no words and broke down and cried a thousand echos deep in the valley of my soul. The kind of cry that feels like a building toppled but then imploded, and you collapse and fold on the inside, and ache for the desire to stand tall again. The kind of cry where you wait for the tears to fall but they never come, because Sis, you as dry as a hot desert plain. The kind of cry that hollows out your gut because you’re too exhausted and lack the energy it takes for the ebb and flow of the deep, sharp exhale and tumbling gasp on the intake. The kind of cry that drains your blood from your crown to your toes, and you reach out to sit down, then realize you’re already seated. So I summoned all that I could to stand in front of a mirror. This is what my reflection spoke to me: “Sis, you is tired. You is sad. You is cold. Sis, you need a hug. You need way more than a hug. You need a healing. Sis, it’s time to call in your ancestors’ wisdom, and tap into your internal wisdom. Sis, you’ve been giving away your power. Time to stand in your truth and let go of what isn’t aligned with your purpose. Sis, you’ve been yearning for a safe space for all that is raw and vulnerable. It’s always been with you. Soften your stance. There’s much power in your softness too. Sis, you need a comforting container in which to store the tender wounds of the world, for the burden has been heavy and you have carried it way too long. Sis, you need a good head rub, the kind that raises the hairs and goosebumps on the back of your neck in delicious, indulgent decadence. Sis, you ARE the innocent delight of frivolous charms and tickle me pink laughter. Tend to those parts of you. Feed and nourish them. Protect them. Sis, you need a sweet escape from the worries and concerns weighing on you like humidity on a hot summer day. Sis, when you gon’ stop trying to save the world and save yourself? Sis, how you gon quench your thirst if your well done run dry? Sis, take a break. Let it go, even if just for today. It’ll be there tomorrow, & the next day. Breath deep, Sis. Deep breaths is enough in just this moment. Deep inhale, slow, loooonnng exhale.

I am in tears. Sobbing. Chest heaving. Tears of joy and hope after watching Oprah speak on the #me too and #timeisup movement. I saw a sea of women (and men) wearing black in support for the end of sexual harassment and sexual assault of women. It is so encouraging to see change happen at this level, and I can only hope that legislative action is the next step to end rape culture and move us swiftly into a consent culture. It’s time for a healing for us all. Many moons ago I was a victim of incest, sexual assault, sexual abuse, and date rape. Some of these violations happened by men in power who I was taught to trust: pastor, deacon, doctor, family, friend, coworker. I have long since healed, but events like that can change a woman. I have never felt completely safe around men in public places, and may never will. Right before the holiday season I made an important decision to “divorce” certain family members I love dearly, because after many years of being in the receiving end of deep emotional pain by their actions, I received no apology, no softened heart, no reciprocity, no support, no loyalty, no demonstration of mutual respect. I realized no matter what I do, they will always chose to envy my success instead of root for me, and chose to intentionally misunderstand me, and see me in a dark light. I realized the narcissistic behavior, and cut off contact - permanently. Narcissists will eventually attempt to make contact with you, for no other reason than to control you, to manipulate you, to gaslight you, to use you for an energy source. Narcissists are energy vampires that feed off Empaths (yes, I am an Empath). Narcissists don’t have the capacity for authentic empathy and compassion, and they will never truly care for you. They only care what you can do for them. If you cut out narcissists in your life in 2017, be prepared when they come for you in 2018. Stay woke, and be prepared to protect, fight and defend your priceless healthy boundaries. SHAKE IT OFF - I love this song!!! 💖 It’s the last night of 2017 and I am thinking of what this year has meant for me. Of all that the Universe and my ancestors have called forth in me: my inner strength, my inner voice, my higher calling, my challenges and my aspirations. A lot of energy has been directed towards health challenges this past year, some of which I know has other questioning my spiritual gifts. I still have them, they have always been there, will always be there: through trauma, through life setbacks, through deep emotional pain, triumphs & disappointments and heartbreak. And they only get stronger over time. My timing is perfect, and I speak with powerful intention that my future is bright. And despite our best planning, sometimes the Universe has other plans with us, plans decided upon before we incarnated. I do believe everything happens for a reason, and I have intuited the purpose of the challenges I’ve had this year. I accept the challenges and am grateful for the tenacity to dig in my heels, roll up my sleeves, and WORK through this thing we call life, with appreciation for my many blessings and a renewed excitement for my spiritual business, which has been on the sidelines for over a year. I have SHAKEN OFF the devil in my back, and I am READY FOR 2018!!!
