P52 (2013) Week 39 - Birthday
I missed another week, but this time it happened because I realized this was no longer a priority. I've decided that I am not going to finish this photo project. I haven't dedicated the time that I want to dedicate to it and it looks like I'm not going to. That being said, this will be my final post. For now.

P52 (2013) Week 37 - Setbacks
If you follow my blog at all you might have noticed that I did not post last week. I didn't because it was "one of those crazy weeks." I've noticed a pattern of crazy weeks this semester, but I think it is finally getting a little better. At least for me.
Desiree had a serious setback last week, and she has been working diligently through the weekend to get some work done. Watching her focus has been pretty inspiring but not inspiring enough to get me to work all weekend. Fortunately, she finished in time to catch an episode of Breaking Bad before bed.

P52 (2013) Week 35 - Sinus Problems
It's been one of those crazy weeks. I've been running on fumes for most of the week due to a lack of sleep. I attribute the lack of sleep to two things. First, I've been playing catch up all week, and that has me a bit stressed out. Second, as usual, my sinuses are acting up. Fortunately, I've been able to fully catch up on my obligations this weekend and get my sinuses in check--using a plethora of sinus meds.

P52 (2013) Week 34 - Tambora
I'm going to keep it short tonight because I'm running out of time. It's been one of those crazy weeks, and I don't think it's lettin' up. I have a ton of catching up to do.
I spent this weekend in Dominican Republic, and I didn't get much work done. But I did manage to snap a picture before I left.

P52 (2013) Week 33 - Last Day of Summer
This has been a pretty hectic week. I had to attend a training, handle some work for mother-in-law, deal with the cold/flu (don't know what it was), and take the MPRE. I am pretty exhausted. But today was pretty special.
Today is one of my best friends' birthday. Unfortunately, it was a pretty unorthodox birthday celebration. Instead of a cake, we had an ice cream sandwich. Instead of candles, we used skittles. Instead of his house, we were in a prison visitation room.
It was my first time visiting anyone at a prison, and the experience was a sobering one. Although we laughed and told jokes, the laughter was bittersweet because we get to go home, but he goes to a cell. It's pretty heartbreaking to see a friend or family member under those circumstances. However, it felt great knowing that my presence made his time there more bearable. In ten months, he will be home, hopefully, for good.
I couldn't take a picture at the prison because they don't allow cameras, so I opted for something that describes what I will be doing all of next week.

P52 (2013) Week 32 - Let's Cook
Breaking Bad is back this week, and Desiree and I just finished watching tonight's episode. I have to say the experience was a bit anti-climactic. There weren't any "Oh Shit" moments, but I am interested to see what happens between Walt and Hank.

P52 (2013) Week 31 - Pool Party
This week, I ended my internship with the Office of the Attorney General. Overall it was an excellent experience, and I got to witness some great lawyering and some pretty horrendous lawyering. I find that learning what not to do is extremely important, so the horrendous lawyering was very beneficial.
To celebrate my temporary freedom, Desiree and I had a pool party with my family. As usual, the weather did not cooperate, but we still had a great time. We've become experts at having pool parties in the rain.

P.S. I did not use my DSLR this week, obviously.

P52 (2013) Week 30 - Happy Birthday
Today, I'm breaking several of my own rules. I know this is becoming a theme, but today it's for a good reason.
First, I am late. Second, I did not use my 35mm lens. I am late because I got home late after celebrating my mother's birthday. I did not use my 35mm because, as the family photographer, I had to take several photos last night and the zoom lens is just the better option for parties.
Now that I have that out of the way, I am dedicating this post to my mother. We celebrated her birthday last night, for convenience, but her birthday is today.
Every year we celebrate birthdays and shower our loved ones with nice comments, so I don't know what else I could possibly say. But, on the off chance that my mother will actually read this, I hope it serves as a reminder of how important she is. Without her I wouldn't be where I am--figuratively and literally. Mom, thank you for being you.

P52 (2013) Week 29 - Play Ball
Keeping it brief once again. I have more thoughtful posts lined up, but I lost track of time this week.
I did find time to get some exercise though. I joined some friends in their weekly baseball game. Unfortunately, I forgot to take my camera to the field.

P52 (2013) Week 28 - Shaker
This is going to be a lazy week for photography and writing. I've been too busy glued to the news to pay attention to anything else.
So, you get a photo of a drink mixer that Desiree bought.

P52 (2013) Week 27 - Golden Rule
I've had this topic in mind for a long time but never had the time to think it through. This week, I heard something on the radio that made me think about it again. The Elvis Duran Morning Show asked, "If you found a wallet with cash in it would you take some of the cash before returning it?"
The question prompted some interesting responses. Most people said they wouldn't take anything, which is a good sign, I guess. But some people felt entitled to a reward for doing a nice thing. That sentiment made me think of the golden rule.
I don't remember when or where I learned the golden rule or its origin, but, I know that when I heard it, the rule made perfect sense to me. It made more sense than anything else I learned religion courses or any lessons on morality. It became my guide for how to make decisions in life.
For those that dont know the rule, according to wikipedia, it is "one should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself." I haven't always followed the rule as strictly as I would like because nobody is perfect, but I try to. I try to do nice things because I think its the right thing to do. No reward necessary.
Some people might wonder what's the point of being nice when plenty of others are not, but that's not what the golden rule is about. It is simply about how you should act. It shouldn't matter if others don't reciprocate.  In my opinion, people who expect or demand a reward for being a good person will eventually feel the wrath of karma. So, if you aren't already living by the golden rule, you should try it sometime.
On that note, for the past few days I've been helping my father-in-law renovate my mother-in-law's kitchen. For today's photo, I shot my beat up work shoes.

P52 (2013) Week 26 - Fearless (kinda)
Today, Desiree had a bright idea--to take our fearful pooch to a dog park. Our dog has an irrational fear of other dogs. We don't know where it came from. She hasn't been abused or bitten by any other dogs. But we didn't socialize her when she was a puppy, so we think that might be the cause.
Desiree has been takin small steps to try to socialize her, and, so far, she has made a little progress. Well, today she took a giant leap. We took her to a "Bark Park," and let her run free. It went surprisingly well. She didn't freak out at the sight of other dogs, although she did try to hide a few times. Overall, she seemed to have a good time, and we plan to make this a weekly thing. Hopefully, she will be frolicking with other dogs in no time.

P52 (2013) Week 25 - Sunday Funday
This week started off pretty normal and, aside from the NBA finals, stayed pretty normal up until Friday. On Friday, I received a phone call that may or may not derail my summer, in a good way. I'll talk about that some other time though.
Today, Des and I spent the day at Amelia Earhart park with some good friends. We even brought McKenzie. It was a great end to a great week.
Week 25:
P.S. I started this blog/photo project so that I could practice writing and practice my photography. I expected to make thoughtful posts with creative photos attached. I don't think I've met my own expectations because, lately, I've been doing everything last minute. But I have some ideas for posts/photos that I just haven't had the time to write/capture. Hopefully, I will do better going forward.

P52 (2013) Week 23 - Leader of the Pack
Earlier this week, Desiree was watching a Netflix marathon of Cesar Millan's show. It piqued my interest a bit, and Desiree and I realized that we weren't being very good pack leaders. McKenzie was running things in our household.
I set out on a mission to change that. With some correction tips from the Dog Whisperer, we have been able to turn McKenzie around. She's still a little rough around the edges, but she's gettin' there.

P52 (2013) Week 22 - Cars
I had a pretty busy week. Work was exciting. I'm finally learning some practical legal skills, and I got a pretty cool writing assignment. The weekend has kept me busy as well. Consequently, this post is being rushed.
Earlier this week Desiree saved a potential choking victim by removing a toy car from the her workplace. Naturally, she brought it home for me to play with--because I'm really just a five year old in a grown man's body.

P52 (2013) Week 21 - Memorial Day Weekend
I'm a little late this week but better late than never. Right? Although, today is technically my Sunday, so by that logic, I'm not late.
This was an interesting, fun week. I started my internship with the Attorney General's office, which has been great. But the internship comes at a hefty price; I have to commute from south Miami to downtown Ft. Lauderdale. The commute is terrible, and I don't see it getting any better. However, it's only for the summer, and it will be good for me in the long run. Moving on.
We celebrated my father-in-law's 60th birthday in the keys this weekend. We had as awesome a time as could be expected. The highlight of the trip was the sunset cruise we boarded on Saturday. I was able to capture some pretty cool sunset photos, including this silhouette.
