Back to the grind.... I've got 2 kinds of cold brew today: Vietnamese coffee (left) and something French roast (right). It's nice to enjoy a latté without getting a tummy ache for a change. Office coffee often sucks, even if it's a familiar big name brand. Cold brew ftw #coldbrewftw

Sometimes simplicity wins out. I'm so glad I left that seasoning packet out this time 😉 I still took a couple of shortcuts - instant ramen noodles of course, and instant dashi. Today's broth is simply water, instant dashi and a splash of soy sauce. It's delicate, aromatic and quite satisfying. #hungrypilipinx

Trying the current month’s limited editions is always fun, and usually more exotic in name than anything else. I must say the Creepy Crawly Critters was a bit of a disappointment. The young lady scooper mentioned it was matcha ice cream and I just couldn’t taste it. It was more like green vanilla… other than that, the flavors were there for everything else. The nuttiness of the critters really were complemented by the blandness of the green stuff. Also, the underlying scoop is Dracula’s Blood Pudding. It tasted more like a chocolate mousse, laced with bourbon. It had a subtle chalkiness in texture which, I’m sure comes from the blood it contains. I would like to suggest, pistachio ice cream to go with those critters. People will be expecting nut bits to provide that nutty taste. The little bugs tasted more like nutty rice crispies.

Who knew the addition of local honey to a classic flavor could do so much for the senses? Oregon Honey Rocky Road will be my “go to” favorite this month. The candied crunch of the nuts and fluffy marshmallow swirled with chewy, gooey honey.

Petunia's Peach Crumble bars. Interesting take and with a coconut cream base. I was surprised how much the peach bars' flavor popped. It was a welcome sensation. Vegan and as creamy-smooth as amy dairy counterpart. #veganicecream #CoconutFTW (at Salt & Straw NW 23rd)

Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons. My sweetie prefers her treats a bit on the salty side. I want that w/ crunchy bits (the almond brittle kind). It's great to be able to fall back on the shop favorites if the limited editions don't excite you. #saltnstraw (at Salt & Straw NW 23rd)

Finally, I got to taste their all too famous, bone marrow & smoked cherry! They've certainly come a long way as far as creativity and testing the palates of the masses. Nothing to write home about, but was tasty so long as you had a bit of cherry with every bite. #saltnstraw

My take on adobong manok sa gata, incorporating sous vide cooking. I have seen many recreating numerous filipino classics using alternative methods and I just think I've found a better, simpler way. #MeetJoule #hungrypilipinx

I can’t be satisfied with just one of their burgers. So I always just grab two minis. This is the mini Original. (at Slowburger)

I had 3 tacos but I ate one while snapping photos of the two I've posted in a row. This of course is one of my favorites: Chicharrones (crispy pork skin) w/ tomato chipotle (at Uno Mas)

This was my least filled taco of my order. Still, I could barely close the thing. Morongo (spicy blood pork sausage) w/ aguacate

Smoky, sweet burnt tips - by far, the best meal I've enjoyed at the local farmers market! (at Beaverton Farmers Market)

I know, not exactly golden. The wrappers were a brand I normally don't use. But they turned out tasting much better than they look. Instead of ground beef, I used chopped steak. At my local grocery store, it was labeled "taco meat."

I just so happened to be nearby so why not treat myself while the line was not insane? I got a chance to try the 2 flavors I passed on, the last time I was at Salt & Straw Top: Portland Creamery's goat cheese marionberry habañero Bottom: Meyer lemon buttermilk w/blueberries (at Salt & Straw NW 23rd)

I didn't quite get the layering effect I was hoping for, but it tastes really good anyway. I think I brewed the tea kinda weak this time. Good thing it's super easy to make more.
