He doesn't trust himself to say the right thing, but he is beginning to question whether he really wants to know Mo Ran’s reasons. Captivating though it is, Mo Ran’s face holds no kindness.  But Mo Ran doesn’t wait for Chu Wanning’s confirmation.  "They died,” he says slowly, “Because if they didn't, they would have tried to keep you from me.”
