A/N: Here’s a fic about our beloved Ironhead, falling for the doctor who appears beside his bed ❤️‍🩹 The title is from another movie entirely, but I think it fits nicely, and I reeeally wanted to use this delicious gifset of Charlie 🤤 (Yes I realize that this fic features gifs from four different movies, plz just ignore that obviously 😅)

He remembers the pain. Every sharp flash he’s suffered is seared in the seams of his brain. Every scar on his skin screams for him to relive it again. He embraces it—knows time can ease pain but never erases it—feels most himself when he faces it. One with the warrior’s blood in his veins, bottled paint fated someday to spill and leave stains. When the pain fades he grasps at the last feeble trace of it. Some days the ghost of the pain is a thrill and he chases it.

Most of it’s more than skin-deep. Every pang is a part of himself that he struggles to keep. Insides cut into pieces of who he had been, everything that’d happened, till his ironclad will came so close to collapsing… yet here he still stands and accepts that the price of survival is steep. Will finds peace in the pieces each night, holds the pain of his past close and tight, till it blossoms again and burns bright in his sleep.

The burn’s so bright that some nights he feels like on some twisted level it’s beautiful too.

But it pales to the beauty of you.
